Splitgate 2 returns with a new name this month "after extensive redevelopment"

1047 Games is ready to show off the new and improved version of Splitgate 2 after it pulled the game back into beta earlier this year.
Splitgate Arena Reloaded

Following success with the arena shooter entry Splitgate, studio 1047 Games began development of a high-budget sequel back in 2022. Three years later, the title was deemed ready for prime time as Splitgate 2 launched out of beta as a full free-to-play release across PC and consoles in June of 2025. It did not last long. In July, following a community backlash about the battle royale addition, available content, and rushed features, the studio decided to put the game back into beta to develop it further.

Today, at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted show, 1047 announced the return of Splitgate 2 after "extensive redevelopment and dozens of community-driven improvements." The game now sports the name Splitgate: Arena Reloaded.

The studio says it has overhauled and changed major aspects, including removing the factions and abilities of characters entirely, and redesigning the combat to be more in line with the original arena shooter.

"Splitgate has always been a love letter to the arena shooters we grew up playing," said 1047 Games Design Director Josh Watson. "We’ve been hard at work rebuilding the game from the ground up, taking the best of Splitgate 1 and Splitgate 2, removing what didn’t work, and refining what did."

Here are some of the major changes the developer has implemented since it pulled the plug on the launch:

  • Removed Factions, Abilities, and select equipment to refocus on classic arena combat
  • Rebuilt progression from the ground up and overhauled the Ranked system
  • Introduced 5 new, and 6 fully-reworked maps, 3 new Primary Weapons and 1 new Power Weapon: the Railgun
  • New Arena modes, playlist selection, and a true Classic Arena mode with even starts and powerups
  • Reduced store prices, simplified the Battle Pass, and improved overall cosmetic quality

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is releasing on December 17 across PC (Steam, Xbox store, Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
