The Swedish music streaming giant, Spotify, has announced a new feature to improve the playlist experience on its platform. Currently available in beta for Premium subscribers, the new feature lets you add and customize transitions between tracks in a playlist.
You can get started by creating a new playlist or picking an existing one. Tap on the "Mix" button in the toolbar and choose "Auto" to create an instant blend. You can also take the manual route and customize your playlist using different transition presets like Fade and Rise.
Spotify's playlist customization feature also lets you experiment with other settings, such as volume, equalizer, audio effects, and use the waveform and beat data to find the desired spot in a track for your transition.
Spotify will display the Camelot key and beats per minute (BPM) for each song. You can choose songs with similar tempos and keys to create more natural-sounding transitions. You can listen to the playlists without these customizations by tapping the Mix button to turn them on or off.
In a press release, Spotify said that music enthusiasts and playlist experts can use the feature to have more control and "seamlessly transition between tracks, customize how they flow together, and enhance your mix with features like volume, EQ, and effect curves."
The streaming giant revealed that users across the world have created over nine billion playlists so far. You can customize playlists around specific moods and energy or optimize them for consistent BPM during your running sessions and road trips.
The latest customization builds on top of the features Spotify previously launched to improve the playlist experience. You can create a custom art cover for your saved playlists, starting with a blank canvas or an original photo you upload.
Spotify has said its new playlist customization is rolling out to eligible Premium users and recommends updating your app to the latest version.
