The System76 Thelio Spark

The Linux-oriented PC OEM, System76, has launched the Thelio Spark, its ‘quality starter desktop’. With a regular price of $999, it’s the cheapest out of the Thelio line-up.

If you are quick, System76 is offering $100 off its various Thelio Spark tiers meaning you can get the Essential variant for just $899. Even if you decide to get a customised model, you will still be eligible for $100 off.

The variants of the Thelio Spark are as follows:

Essential

  • 6-core 12th Gen Intel i5-125400 CPU
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM (3200MHz)
  • 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD storage
  • Integrated graphics

Empowered

  • 10-core 12th Gen Intel i5-12600K CPU
  • 32GB DDR4 RAM (3200MHz)
  • 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD storage

Aside from the new Thelio Spark, System76 said that it had adjusted the hardware of some of its other desktops so that they are optimised to handle AI workloads and other hardware-intensive tasks.

System76 is pitching the Thelio Spark as an easy-to-use device whether the user is old or young. The computer comes pre-loaded with their Pop!_OS or Ubuntu, it's your choice. Both are quite easy to use but Pop!_OS is geared more towards STEM and creative professionals whereas Ubuntu is more generalised.

In addition to the $100 discount, anyone who adds one of the fancy looking Launch keyboard variants to their order will get 12% of their keyboard too. The Launch keyboards are a bit pricey starting at $199 but they are extremely customisable and look great so they could be worth the price you pay.

If you're into customisation, you can change the colour of the accent colours on the front of the Thelio Spark, there are a number to choose from to make it more to your liking.
