A Twitter representative has said that the company is testing the insertion of ads in replies to tweets. It's possible that this experience will be opt-in and creators will receive an ad revenue cut.
Twitter has announced it will now no longer count username @mentions in replies towards the 140-character limit. The feature is currently rolling out to the website and the iOS and Android apps.
