Telegram gets group checklists, new ways to monetize channels, and more

Telegram Messenger has received a new feature update, giving its customers group checklists, new monetization options, and more.

New Telegram Update

Telegram Messenger is getting yet another feature update. The platform is rolling out updates every month, and in July, developers prepared updates for groups and new monetization options for channels.

With the latest updates, group members can create checklists to track tasks, manage shopping, etc. You can name your list and add up to 28 tasks to it. Also, each task can have its own emoji for some extra personalization. To create a checklist in a group (they also work in one-on-one chats and your saved messages), press the attachments menu and select Checklists. Note that this feature requires Telegram Premium. Users without Telegram Premium cannot check or uncheck tasks.

Channel owners now have more ways to monetize their projects. Users can now suggest content with a new automated interface. You can pay channel owners with Telegram Stars or Toncoin. Of course, channel admins will have to approve your post first (they can also offer edits or change the price). Rewards will be deposited 24 hours after posting.

Like with group checklists, suggested posts are only available to Telegram Premium subscribers. In the announcement post, developers say this feature "will initially be available only to Telegram Premium," which implies it could become available to all Telegram users in the future.

The July 2025 update is a rare update when Telegram gets new features that are only available to those willing to pay for Telegram Premium, a paid subscription that removes ads in channels and adds additional features like voice-to-text, stories, animated emojis, and more. You can read more about the update in a post on the official Telegram website.

In case you missed it, in late May, Telegram announced a partnership with xAI, which would bring Grok AI to the messenger. However, Elon Musk replied to Pavel Durov that "no deal has been signed." Details about this partnership remain unknown.
