The Outer Worlds is getting story DLC in 2020, Obsidian confirms

Obsidian Entertainment is not finished with the story of its hit role-playing game The Outer Worlds just yet, with the studio confirming that new story content is heading towards the game as DLC.

Obsidian Entertainment's latest role-playing game The Outer Worlds landed a couple of months ago to acclaim from players and critics. However, the future of the Halcyon system-set game has been up in the air, as other than a few bug fixing updates, the studio had been quiet about any expansions, until now. Obsidian has confirmed that the RPG has new story content coming its way next year.

The story will be expanded through DLC in 2020, with more details regarding the development coming later. The announcement arrived on a forum post by the studio giving praise to its development team for managing to get nominations on Best Narrative, Best Performance, Best RPG, and Game of the Year categories at The Game Awards.

The announcement isn't a surprising one though, considering almost all of Obsidian developed RPGs have received rich addons to give players more adventures. These upcoming story missions could be taking place on entirely new planets, happening before the end of the main storyline. It is also possible they will take place after the ending, but considering there are multiple finales as well as different faction and companion outcomes, it would be difficult to fit in.

In addition to regular releases on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, The Outer Worlds base game is also available on Xbox Game Pass. Although it is a possibility, it is highly unlikely that the upcoming DLC will be included in the subscription service.
