There's no iOS 11.2 beta for the iPhone X, so you can't restore from backup

If you're running the latest beta for iOS, version 11.2, and you're picking up your new iPhone X today, you'll be disappointed to find out that there's no beta for the new phone, so you can't restore.

Earlier this week, Apple released the first developer betas for iOS 11.2, followed by a public beta. If you're one of the early adopters that opted to test the new software, there's something that you should know: there's currently no iOS 11.2 beta build for the iPhone X.

The new $1,000 handset came out today, and if you're a beta tester and were first in line to get it, this is bad news, as you won't be able to restore from an iCloud backup, unless you have an old iOS 11.1 backup stored somewhere.

Of course, this doesn't mean that there will never be an iOS 11.2 image for the new handset. Apple rarely releases betas for unreleased devices, so it might show up as soon as today, or the company may have us wait until the next beta seed is available.

Either way, it's still something to be aware of for the time being. If you've been testing out iOS 11.2, be prepared to set up your iPhone X as a new device.
