Xbox Wireless Headset gets better battery and audio with new Bluetooth LE Audio update

Microsoft has released a firmware update for the 2024 Xbox Wireless Headset, enabling Bluetooth LE Audio support for compatible Windows 11 PCs.

Last year, Microsoft launched the updated Xbox Wireless Headset with improved audio performance and support for spatial audio technologies, including Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone:X.

Today, Microsoft announced a new firmware update for the Xbox Wireless Headset to make it even better when connected with the latest Windows 11 PCs. Even though the Xbox Wireless Headset is designed primarily to be used with an Xbox console, it works well with Windows 11 PCs as well. This new firmware update brings Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio support when used with Windows 11 PCs that support this latest audio standard.

In addition to better battery life with improved power efficiency, Microsoft claims that Bluetooth LE Audio also improves the audio experience. For example, gamers will be able to enjoy audio with less latency than Bluetooth Classic audio during their gaming sessions, where audio sync is crucial.

Thanks to super wideband stereo voice, gamers can enjoy better stereo sound during their voice chats. Finally, the shared audio (preview) on Windows 11 will allow them to share game audio across multiple compatible Bluetooth accessories at the same time.

To enjoy the above Bluetooth LE-based features, gamers should have the following:

  • Firmware update: Available now via the Xbox Accessories app on your console or Windows 11 device. Make sure you’re using the latest Xbox Wireless Headset (launched October 2024).
  • Bluetooth LE Audio: Requires a Windows 11 device that supports Bluetooth LE Audio.
  • Super wideband stereo audio: Requires the latest updates to Windows 11, version 24H2 or later, and audio driver support from your PC manufacturer. Coming soon to ROG Ally and ROG Ally X.
  • Shared audio (preview): Currently available to Windows Insiders on select Windows 11 PCs.

With the Xbox December Update, the Xbox mobile app is also receiving a neat little update. There is a new dedicated Store tab through which gamers can easily find games, purchase them, and more with the click of a button. Also, they can add games to their Wishlist and search for add-ons directly in the app.
