You can pick up a new Lumia 1520 for $749.99 ... if you must

The year is 2013, and Nokia is holding its annual Nokia World event, showing off its latest products, the Lumia 2520, Lumia 1520, and Lumia 1320. The firm is riding the high of offering a tablet with Carl Zeiss optics, while CEO Stephen Elop is instilling confidence in its users by announcing that Instagram is coming to its mobile platform later that year.

Although what occurred above seems like a lifetime ago, and with Lumia devices having seemingly gone extinct, it appears that one retailer is aiming to keep things alive by selling the Lumia 1520 brand new. Best Buy is currently offering the handset at its original retail price of $749.99. It looks to be sold directly from the retailer and is the AT&T variant in white. Although it arrives with Windows Phone 8 out of the box, the device can be updated to Windows 10. However, it isn't eligible for the Creators Update or Fall Creators Update.

As a refresher, the Lumia 1520 offers:

  • 6-inch 1080p display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 20MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics, OIS, dual-LED flash | 1.2MP front-facing camera
  • 16GB internal storage with microSD expansion

Just as a matter of comparison, a new unlocked Samsung Galaxy S8 from Best Buy sells for the exact same price with:

  • 5.8-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
  • Octa-core 2.35GHz (Quad Core) + 1.9GHz (Quad) processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 12.0MP rear-facing camera
  • 64GB internal memory plus microSD slot

As you might expect from a four-year-old phone, a majority of the specifications aren't impressive by any means in 2017. But, Windows phones have never been reliant on the most cutting-edge internals, with a majority of the units running smoothly despite what some might consider as paltry specifications. There may not be a high interest in the Windows phone handsets anymore, so it is a bit curious as to why Best Buy is selling the Lumia 1520 at full price and how this stock might have come into its inventory. Undoubtedly, there are diehard fans out there that would love to get their hands on a brand new model, and this could be one of those rare last opportunities.
