okay the server is converted back to vanilla now with some datapacks added. everything seems to be running well / correctly. I believe I got the nether and end merged back into the world folder properly but am not sure where the nearest nether portal is to test so let me know if there's any issue there.

Here's the list of datapacks we have so far:

  • Chat:
    • AFK Display (auto marks people AFK in chat when idle for 5 minutes)

  • Teleportation: (access these types of commands by typing /trigger then the command)
    • Back (takes you back to location from before last teleport) (must stay still for 3 seconds)
    • Homes (set home warps; currently set to allow up to 5 homes per player) (must stay still for 3 seconds)
    • TPA (request teleport with another player)
    • Spawn (teleport to spawn) (must stay still for 3 seconds)

  • Quality of Life:
    • A few datapacks to control mob griefing
    • Auto Utilities (allows right click harvesting and smart tilling with hoes)
    • Durability Ping (alerts player when tool durability below 2%)
    • Fast Leaf Decay
    • gatsilk (pick up spawners with silk touch tools)
    • MultiplayerSleep (allows 1 player to sleep to set morning)
    • Treecapitator
    • XP Harvest (gives chance of XP dropping when harvesting crops) (currently set to default of 5%)

  • Misc:
    • Larger Phantoms (makes phantoms grow the longer you don't sleep)
    • More Mob Heads (gives chance for mob heads to drop)
    • Player Heads (player heads will drop when killed by another player)

  • Custom Recipes:
    • Craftable Horse Armor
      image.thumb.png.77a7f7b532f53ff43f40ee7049fd6e03.png

    • Craftable Name Tags
      image.thumb.png.13ef510940d358981eed6d7bff3114ba.png

    • Rotten Flesh smelts into Leather

PlanetMinecraft seems to have a bunch of neat datapacks so I don't want to just add a bunch of things at random.

The only random thing I personally picked out was the 'Larger Phantoms' as that just sounded like a neat tweak to the vanilla phantoms.

If anyone notices anything on the PlanetMinecraft list they'd like added to try out just let me know. Also let me know if there are any issues with the switch over that I didn't notice.

A goodly list right there. 🙂

Are there any data packs that allow you to place a crafting bench next to a chest and access the contents of the chest directly from the crafting bench? I know some of the mod packs have such a feature and it's really really handy. I did have a quick look through but I couldn't find such a data pack.

not that I've seen. I think that's a client side mod though so it might just work if you have it installed on a forge client. (if the mod has been updated for 1.16.1 already that is)

surprised they haven't implemented that feature into Vanilla yet though honestly. It's a feature that just makes sense.

Found Bug : The end wont load, gets stuck at loading then times out, switch to the end portal is at spawn station under south entrance.

EDIT: Just logged back in and spaned in the end inside a wall lol

do we have anything built in the end?

I could always just reset it; that'll give us a new dragon too.

Dont think so, ive managed to dig a 3x3x3 area were i spawned but i aint got a clue with direction to get out, lol

Manged to get out, eventually but normally the end portal spawn near the dragon, in this case its spawned me in the middle of nowhere with chrous fruit aeverywhere, think i spawned at y level 0, so i think the end needs resetting!

Edited by Nuculi

welp if we're resetting the end then I may add a couple datapacks to spice up the world generation in the end; it's always felt a little too plain IMO (and the far off ender towns or whatever aren't exactly easy to find or get to in vanilla)

you mind if I add the 'Elder Dragon' datapack too? saw that before while looking through PlanetMinecraft and it sounds like it makes the ender dragon fight more interesting too.

Elder Dragon is really hard without mods like ultimate armour from what youtube vids ive seen, but you can add if you want and il tell you how hard it is to kill, but i think the End is knackered and needs reset ive been flying around for 5 mins now still havnt come acroos a end fortress

good to know; I'll skip on that one then for now.

reset should be later tonight or in the morning; I won't be home right away after work today.

Server is back up, I looked up the reason and its something that is fixed in the 1.16.2 pre release 3 so when 1.16.2 comes out it should stop freaking out over random blocks like todays melon stalk and mossy stone brick :iiam:

It had a mild panic attack when you loaded the first dimension since it restarted but it didn't crash, I jumped in the nether/end and no more logs show up for it so it should be stable. hopefully its this Wednesday that .2 drops to fix this

well at least we know it wasn't the fault of the early paper builds lol

but yeah hopefully 1.16.2 finalizes soon as looking through the pre-release notes it sounds like it has a lot of fixes for the bugs 1.16 and 1.16.1 introduced.

well no crash complaints from you guys for the last couple days so I'm hoping we're crash free thanks to 1.16.2 :)

I'm currently waiting for the following datapack to get updated for 1.16.2 using its new custom world generation API and then I'll probably reset the end again. The current version wasn't allowing the server to start when I tried before so I'm pretty sure it's only base 1.16 compatible at the moment.

could we install the Wandering Traders - Blocks Only data pack from https://vanillatweaks.net/picker/datapacks/? It would be nice to actually have a use for the wandering traders.

Also it might be nice to have the Armour Statues one too.

can do 🙂 those are both simple datapacks. I was considering both of those before but held off for the initial release till we knew things were stable.

Okay, I've added a couple new datapacks. Not the exact ones that you mentioned but similar versions found on planetminecraft

these versions seem better fleshed out compared to the vanillatweaks versions

also updated the treecapitator datapack as the dev released an update for better 1.16.2 support.

Thanks for doing that so quickly. That armour stand editing data pack looks really well done.

Re. the wandering trader one, the thing I liked about the vanilla tweaks one is that it added the mini blocks as a trade option, which I thought could be quite nice for decorating, but I'm happy to try out the one you added. Anything to make them more useful and interesting. At the moment I just kill them to get their heads 😉

Did we used to have it set so that Endermen don't pinch blocks? They seem to be spawning a *lot* more than they used to and they're constantly walking off with stuff. A bit annoying.

Also, can we have this datapack please?

Also this one...

there's a datapack for endermen griefing on but maybe 1.16.2 broke it; I'll take a look to see if there's an update or another pack for similar

I'll take a look at your 2nd datapack request but for your first there's already 'Auto Utilities' installed which allows right click harvesting; I can't remember if you need to be holding a hoe for it to work. I'll also check for updates on that one too in case it broke with the 1.16.2 update.

Thanks. I've tried all sorts for the auto harvesting, and I can't get it to work. The pack is installed because /trigger Autocrops displays a message, but it doesn't do anything with my diamond hoe.

yeah 1.16.2 must have broken it. Changes in it seem to have broken a few older hooks/triggers it sounds like causing some datapacks to have had to release 1.16.2 specific compatibility updates.

    • The sweet release of death has never looked more appealing.
    • Meh, just another dongle-haven downgrade compared to my Surface Pro 7+. Whenever I decide to upgrade in the next decade or so, it certainly won't be another microslop Surface with this enshitification trend they've been having after the Surface Pro 7+. Hopefully a future generation of the Framework 12 will be a real upgrade...
    • This could exactly be how our Sun ends but it's not as simple by Sayan Sen Image by Drew Rae via Pexels An international team led by Université de Montréal (University of Montreal) PhD student Érika Le Bourdais has found that the ancient white dwarf star LSPM J0207+3331 is still pulling in planetary debris, even though it has been cooling for about three billion years. White dwarfs are dense, Earth-sized stellar remnants left behind when Sun-like stars exhaust their nuclear fuel and shed their outer layers. The star, located 145 light-years away in the constellation Triangulum, is the oldest and coldest white dwarf known to have a surrounding disk of dust. The star was first spotted in 2019 by a citizen scientist through the Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 project. Its cool temperature immediately suggested that it was very old, since white dwarfs gradually lose heat over time. Using the W. M. Keck telescopes in Hawaii, astronomers later confirmed that the star shows infrared signals consistent with dust rings formed by asteroids breaking apart under its strong gravity. Such infrared excesses occur when a star emits more infrared light than expected, often because warm dust surrounding it absorbs and re-radiates energy. “This discovery challenges our understanding of planetary system evolution,” said Le Bourdais. “The fact that we still see planetary debris being accreted three billion years after the star became a white dwarf suggests that asteroids, comets, and even planets can remain in orbit around these stars for a very long time.” Spectroscopic analysis—a technique that studies light to identify the chemical elements present in an object—revealed thirteen heavy elements in the star’s atmosphere: sodium, magnesium, aluminium, silicon, calcium, titanium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, and strontium. Normally, heavy elements sink quickly in hydrogen-rich white dwarfs, making them hard to detect. “We expected to see only a few elements, but we found dozens!” explained Le Bourdais. The research paper adds more detail. The absence of carbon features suggests the debris came from a carbon-volatile-depleted source. The abundance pattern shows slight deficits of magnesium and silicon compared to iron but otherwise resembles Earth-like material. This points to a differentiated rocky body—one whose materials have separated into distinct layers such as a metallic core and rocky mantle—with a metallic core fraction higher than Earth’s. In other words, the star is accreting the remains of a large rocky object, similar in structure to Earth or the asteroid Vesta. “White dwarfs offer one of the only ways we can directly measure the composition of exoplanets,” said Patrick Dufour, co-author and professor at Université de Montréal. “When planetary debris come too close, they are torn apart by the star’s gravity and end up polluting its atmosphere, leaving a detailed chemical fingerprint of its composition.” The team also detected weak Ca II H & K line core emission, making this only the second known isolated polluted white dwarf to show this feature. These are specific spectral signatures produced by ionised calcium and can indicate unusual physical activity in a star’s upper atmosphere. The finding suggests that extra physical processes may be happening in or above the star’s upper atmosphere. The study stresses the importance of including heavy elements in model atmosphere calculations, since leaving them out can distort the inferred structure and lead to inaccurate stellar parameters. Earlier work suggested the star’s infrared excess came from two dust rings. The new analysis shows that a single silicate dust disk—a ring composed largely of rock-forming minerals rich in silicon and oxygen—can explain the observed signal at 11.6 μm, simplifying the picture of the system’s structure. The question of how debris ended up falling into the star so late remains open. One idea is that giant planets in the system slowly destabilised smaller bodies over billions of years. Another possibility is that a passing star disturbed the orbits of debris. “Future observations with the James Webb Space Telescope or archival data found in the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission could help distinguish between a planetary rearrangement and the gravitational effect of a close stellar encounter,” said John Debes, co-author and researcher at the Space Telescope Science Institute. Dufour noted that hydrogen-rich white dwarfs are the most common type, and the coolest among them are the oldest stars in the galaxy. “We didn't have the habit of looking for signs of accretion in them. This unique case motivates us to expand our search to more of these stars.” The findings show that even after billions of years, planetary systems can remain active and complex. Substantial accretion events—the gradual accumulation of surrounding material onto a celestial object—can still occur long after a star’s death, offering a rare window into the composition and fate of distant worlds.
