Runs ok on my GTX 980, getting around 60fps at 2560x1440, but there's some pretty bad frame drop in areas with the Nvidia GFE recommended settings.

...

The keyboard bindings are stupid though, unless I'm missing something they've bound the mouse wheel to both selecting weapon categories, and selecting a sub-weapon in those categories, meaning I can only ever select the first weapon in any category before it switches to something else. And of course driving/flying is still best with a controller, but aiming is so smooth with a mouse.

Looking good from that screenshot. What are the recommended settings that they give for a 980 at that resolution? What kind of min fps are you getting?

Why not switch to blurays? 7 discs is outright ludicrous

I don't think BD drives are common enough among PC owners to justify it.

I agree but I bet the don't due to copy protection or something not working from a usb key etc. as I think they record a sector or layer to the dvd's

Actually, a USB can have code inserted into its firmware that the game could look for, requiring the key to be inserted to play and therefore forming a hardware copy protection layer.  Really though, it doesn't matter.  The discs/key are just a distribution method, you can't play without your game key and being signed in to Rockstar Social...  Online validation is the way of things these days.

Seem to be stuck on a download of 353mb. Im assuming this is the last part I need after installing it from the 60gb download Ive spent the last 4 days doing.

Anyone else having issues?

Downloading at a whopping 200KB/sec, pausing and resuming seems to kick it up to 12MB/sec but doesn't take long to drop down again.

well try the fun i just had three hour install from 7 dvd disks whoo!!! whoo!!.

Then a update download may get to finally play it in about 5000000 hours lol

you get a map with the dvd version yeah!!

Oh great a download now lol

i was having major problems.

i have my games on an SSD and i had almost 120gb free

i thought gtav is only about 60gb so i have room.. nope

turns out if you preloaded the game it uses double the space with a cache of files. when you install/update and start the game it removes the cache.

i had to transfer several games to another hdd to free up another 15-20gb so it could finish loading patches then the game started.

then got my 60gb's back and transfered my other games back to my gaming SSD.. thanks rockstar

apparently if you didnt preload this doesnt happen

Its crazy for sure and seems to only be if you do it via the official download. If you torrent the 300mb file or grab it off megaupload it doesn't need to do this.

I read a few steam users having major issues even with 300/400gb free on the storage device. Mental.

Got a good 6 hours in tonight, first time playing it and its amazing! Haven't ventured online yet but I think I will continue to do the sp during this week, then try mp over the weekend.

Feel like a kid again with this release, even booked a half day at work for tomorrow morning haha

A bluray drive is about $30 where I live... there is no excuse. The more developers that release on bluray the more will buy drives. It's the whole chicken before the egg thing

the majority of people aren't going to go out of their way to replace an optical drive just to install software or a game

I know i wouldn't, i even terrible speed Internet but i still prefer digital distribution to physical discs.

Edit: Just looked down, i do have a Bluray Drive. Still, if i didn't, i wouldn't buy one.

Looks like the Online mode has people using trainers already.

Shame that R* won't bring out any anti cheat detection for this game.

finally got everything installed and update for half an hours play before bed tonight.

what has happened to the car physics? gta4 was spot on for me, but now its so arcade like i thought i was playing crazy taxi!

IMHO the physics in 4 were a pile of crap. Everything was like it was on tank tracks and weighed ten tons. urgh.

Shame that R* won't bring out any anti cheat detection for this game.

Looking at that, i feel they have very little choice in the matter than to do just that.

Not watched the video yet as I'm at work, but last night I went online for the first time and did the first race in the tutorial. Without any crashes, slip ups or anything at all, I finished in 2nd place, about 20 seconds or so behind the winner. He just -vanished- when the race started... That just ain't possible without some kind of cheating going on.

It's a good job I bought this game for the story mode. Online, I'll just stick to playing with friends only.

What does it take to run GTA 5 at 1080p60?

It's finally here. 18 months on from Grand Theft Auto 5's last-gen release, the chance to tour Los Santos at 60fps is now a reality on PC. The PS4 and Xbox One versions may already have the 1920x1080 checkbox ticked, but this PC effort adds a bevy of options to take things further, bringing support for resolutions up to 4K, better effects and broader draw distances. But does it actually run well?

And indeed, what does it take to run GTA 5 at 1920x1080 and 60 frames per second, with a mind to match console graphics settings? To answer this, we've tried it with a selection of graphics cards from each price range. At the lowest end of the spectrum we have Nvidia's circa
