Because things are progressing slowly (because life), I'm giving you a little update on what's done and is planned for preview 7:

Already done

- [Added] It is now possible to drop files on now playing, when no songs are playing.

- [Changed] Updated the Bulgarian translation

- [Changed] Updated the Russian translation

- [Fixed] Crash when playing a song which has a malformed track number when using system notifications

- [Fixed] Fixed glitches occurring when pressing media keys when the spectrum analyzer is enabled

- [Fixed] Albums which don't have a "Album artist" now show the song artist instead of "Unknown Artist"

- [Fixed] Is it now possible to create smart playlists of songs which haven't been played yet

Planned (once I'm through this, preview 7 is coming)

- Play next not working as expected in shuffle mode

- Ratings are forgotten unless "Save the rating in audio files (MP3 only)" is active

- Tag Editor Doesn't Update Cover Library

- sorted by date missing in songs section?

- Make sure rating and love are remembered after upgrade from 1.x to 2.0

- Add support for opening folders in playlist

- Add a way to export/import track rating and love

- Albums with multiple album artists are split up

Thanks, mate!

I've noticed a small glith in these 2.0 preview versions of Dopamine, and I don't know if it's a known issue or if I'm the only one experiencing it. No matter which Spectrum Analyzer style I use, if I go to the "Now Playing" section, the aforementioned Spectrum Analyzer begins to stutter massively. However, it doesn't happen if I'm browing around on any of the top sections such as Albums, Songs, Playlists, etc.

It's happening in both Windows 10 1809 and 1903, both cleaned installed and with both WDDM 2.5 and 2.6 drivers.

Any clues?

Thanks!!! 😉

One of the few things I would like to see added is hiding the program on the taskbar. The options only apply to the notification area, and having the program almost always open in the taskbar takes up screen real estate. It is an option common on media players.

@Raphaël G.  Hello! My personal messages do not reach you anymore?

They do reach me. But I make the mistake to read them at work, and when I'm home, the notification symbol is gone from the site and I lose track of it. Sorry :(

Edit: I originally replied, thinking you sent me a new translation file. Sorry for the mistake. I'm going to create issues on my GitHub to group your issues an ideas. Thanks.

There is a close to notification area option. Or, are you referring to another feature?

Spectrum Analyzer in Now Playing is indeed broken!

I've created this issue on GitHub: https://github.com/digimezzo/Dopamine/issues/987

Which other media player does this? (I'd like to test it out, to implement it correctly)

These days, I know VLC does. Haven't used current versions of most others. Got used to it from WinAmp, which has always done this.

Ok thanks. I've created a feature request: https://github.com/digimezzo/Dopamine/issues/988

It seems caused by the blur that was added to now playing in the 2.0 previews. The blur is probably being recalculated due to the spectrum analyzer's movement over it. This uses much more CPU and causes the performance hit.

I'll remove the blur in the next preview. That should revert the now playing performance to 1.x levels.

Hi everyone

It seems that last.fm made a very unpopular decision concernign their API. They don't allow to download artist images anymore. So if you see only white stars in the artist info pane: that's on them. The community is angry, as Last.fm has now broken a lot of media players all over the world. This is the announcement, for those interested: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/api-announcement-dac8oefw5vrxq

I'm trying to find a solution, or at least, a workaround. But it is clear that artist pictures will need to come from another source. That might be challenging.

Raphael, the Spectrum Analyzer stutters on the 'Now Playing' screen aren't fixed for me. Any ideas?

Yeah still stuttering for me as well...

Could any of you post a short video capture of what is happens with the spectrum analyzer on your Now Playing screen? I can't seem to reproduce it here, and I'm wondering what is going on. Thanks!

    • And I just bought a seat cushion for my mesh chair. The chair feels nice but the first time I sat in it with boxers, I realized I don't like the feel of mesh on my legs. 😂

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
