Dr Zoe Hart will not be returning to Bluebell, Alabama because The CW has cancelled Hart of Dixie.

The network has chosen not to move ahead with a fifth season of Rachel Bilson's romantic drama series, according to multiple media outlets.

Hart of Dixie aired its season four finale on March 27 as its future was unknown.

Speculation about a possible end for Bilson's programme intensified back in January when The CW left Hart of Dixie out of its early renewal announcement.

"We are happy to see how it plays," CW president Mark Pedowitz said at the time. "If it ends, there's a great [series] finale. If it doesn't end, there's a great season finale."

Hart of Dixie was a reunion for Bilson and her OC producer Josh Schwartz.
