I can't believe I missed that bit of news, nice!

Also , I saw this article posted today.

'Star Trek: Discovery' mini episodes arrive this fall

"CBS All Access won't have the next season of Star Trek: Discovery ready for streaming until early 2019, but fans won't have to wait until then for new content. Today at Comic-Con executive producer and co-creator Alex Kurtzman revealed four "Short Treks" will arrive throughout the fall, as 10 - 15 minute standalone episodes. Rainn Wilson's character Harry Mudd will be featured in one, Aldis Hodge as Craft in another, while the other two follow characters Saru and Tilly. Naturally CBS also dropped off a trailer for season two, which you can check out after the break."

Other "Discovery" news coming out of Comic-Con:

• Wilson Cruz, who plays Dr. Hugh Culber, revealed that he will return to the show, even though his character was killed off last season.

• "X-Men" and "The Librarians" star Rebecca Romijn is joining "Star Trek: Discovery." And she's playing a pretty iconic character: Nurse Christine Chapel, first played by Majel Barrett, who was married to "Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry.

• We'll also get a series of "Short Treks," episodes of 10-15 minutes that will feature characters such as Harvey Mudd (Rainn Wilson.)

• The show returns to CBS All Access in January.

This rumour's been around for a few weeks, so I'm glad it's finally confirmed!

There's another rumour of a Starfleet Academy based show, so maybe the two are the same and Picard will be the commandant, or an instructor, or maybe the new Boothby?

Maybe they understood that everyone pretty much hated he re-designed look of them from the 1st season? Hopefully they explain it well though,  I mean it ain't no virus story arc but hey what is right? :D

It's not hard to explain, they sort of do in the news post about it.  People need to remember that we're talking about 12 different houses, sure it's the same race but they're not all on the same planet like humans are.   You can make the scientific argument that after generations living on a different planet/environment, physical changes happen.   So using that as the basis, some of the houses we'll see in season 2 will look different, that's the easiest way to explain it all.

As far as why they all look the same later on TNG?  Well, virus stuff aside, after the empire is finally unified, and a couple hundred years pass, I figure they all co-mingled finally and it's all just genetic mixing.    Remember again that post-war the 12 houses didn't mingle and pretty much fought each other from what I understand.

Well yes of course that makes sense and all, but I figured they'd "explain it away" in season 2 (or whenever) since the producers basically said there's a canon reason for the changes etc. Or at least, I think they said that. My memory isn't so hot these days so maybe I'm thinking of something else at this point. Regardless though, if they just want to go on and do Klingon stories without having to worry about explaining things, of course you are right George.

CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, aka "The Guy Who Screwed Up Star Trek," has been #MeToo'ed; 6 more accusers. No Golden Parachute, etc. C'Ya....

New Yorker...

He'd been trying to do away with TOS timelines etc. because of cross-licensing with Viacom and other related iissues.

If his exit creates more favorable conditions for a CBS+Viacom merger, he was the main obstacle, the Star Trek situation may improve.

Creating CBS All Access and not participating in Hulu? Moonves. Etc.

"The Star Trek franchise is expanding on CBS All Access. The streaming service has announced Star Trek: Short Treks, four stand-alone short stories that will begin rolling out on Thursday, October 4 ahead of the early 2019 Season 2 return of Star Trek: Discovery."

Looks like we have a date now.

Is that the Terran Empire insignia in the middle of the Starfleet symbol?

Sure looks like it. It would be funny if they went the "mirror darkly" universe for ST:D it will give those that hate the kelvin timeline something else to be ...

I don't think so, I'm pretty sure they said that they are done with the klingon war and the mirror universe now.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. SF935 Autotype: Specifying '\v{name}' in the autotype text will cause the corresponding value to be autotyped. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
