Recommended Posts

i tryd this but upon rebooting when i logged on it gave me an error message about uxtheme.dll not being a good copy or somethin like that, luckily, through the task manager i was able to change it back to the regular uxtheme.dll. I am very weary about trying it again. Could somebody give me instructions about waht i did wrong and how to fix it. Thnx in advance.

I'd hate to sound like a complete beginner at this, but I'm lost with which .dll I have to get. I thought I had gotten the right one, but I get the error message the one guy was getting.

Here's my windows info:

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2_gdr.040517-1325 : Service Pack 1

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yes, english, french etc.

i'm just curious because i haven't seen sp2_gdr before.

All I know is I got the XP cd from my compter teacher back when I was in my senior year. I speak english, I am from Pennsylvania. I can update it and everything, just not register. It is XP Professional, if that helps.

got all the latest updates instaleld (even sp2)? because i can't really tel lthe version from that sp2_gdr. i'm googling for it atm.

Thats the thing, I tried SP2 when it had come out, but I had to re-install XP because it literally had my computer acting like it was a 233mHz processor. So no, I don't have it. I was hoping not to ever have it again.

I have every possible update, excluding SP2, on this machine.

I used the patching utility for uxtheme from windowsX, works fine.

oh ya, i totally forgot about that. i'm still half asleep. try the official patcher first. less work, same effort.

sp1 final i guess then?

i'd go for http://67.21.149.118:8080/repository/Patch...1.2600.1106.rar

I'll give it a shot, and I'll let you know how things turned out.

*edit*

Hey, thanks a lot man. It works fine now. I appreciate the effort you put in for me.

you have sp2 rtm aka final. you need one of these files:

http://67.21.149.118:8080/repository/Patch...ndows%20XP/SP2/

i suppose your OS is english. so you need the EN one.

thanks alot! it worked already.. but then the size of my top right buttons changed size already.. dunno what went wrong.. better than nothing anyway.. thanks once again.

  • 2 weeks later...

So if I was using the US english version I would use

http://67.21.149.118:8080/repository/Patch...900.2180_EN.rar

and use replacer to replace it?

Thanks for the info

Arggg I hate .rar files!!!

    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
    • Never had a problem with TPM and started using that many years ago in Win10. Through several motherboards and OS versions, it just does what it does without complaint. My games library doesn't even know it's there. Secure boot does a lot more than support anti-cheat, as it came along long before anti-cheat software. I've used it religiously since before I started using TPM, and I always liked it for being able to nullify virus contagions that try their best to come in underneath the firmware during boot, so that the OS doesn't see them, etc. That is its purpose, imo. I'll never understand why people who elect to use another OS feel compelled to run down Windows... I guess they need to do that to feel secure about their choices? I run Windows because it supports all the software (including games) natively that I want to buy, and I've never had to run down another OS to make me feel better about it. (Although it's certainly possible to do that, of course...) Win10 is on a ventilator atm, and Win11 is very close to being free, and I finally got to stop running StartAllBack as I moved to the Experimental/Dev channel and my 26300.8553 build supports the moveable taskbar and it's running fine at the top of the screen! Finally, my last major dislike of Win11 is being rectified! So, I'm not at all surprised to see Win11's share of the Steam survey hitting 70%.
    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
    • Everything they say you can already do yourself on the registry by changing some things.
    • Artist's renderings are so much nicer to view than the real thing, don't you think?
