[Review] Logitech z-5500

Recommended Posts

Ive come from the Logitech Z-680's to the Z-5500 and the main difference for me is the increased amount of High end treble and such like. Its too much for me, So ive made a custom Equalizing setting in the Creative! Graphic Equalizing.

Anyone else noticed that?

neone who has these... i cant get center channel to work in the "6 ch direct" mode.. it only works in PLII which sucks teh balls.. also im not using digital/optical cuz im limited due to only having audigy 2 zs

Use 6 channel direct, and go into your audio config panel and change the speakers to 5.1.

I have an Audigy 2, so it's directly the same for the ZS. Just go into speaker settings and set it to 5.1, or just do it the easy way - Go into control panel, sounds and audio devices and copy this. :p

I love my paint work :ninja:

I don't believe that mp3s support the center channel. Maybe it only runs when a movie or game supports it. Aren't most mp3s only 2 channel and so only the left and right set of speakers should play? I don't know, I could be totally wrong, but its just a thought.

What are playing Audio with?

Does the TEST work when you press it on the remote? If so then the speakers themselves are ok

Does the Audigy tests work? (yeh I know there is **** loads, just go through it all)

If your using WMP10 then you need to set it to use the SB card as the device

have you enabled CMS3d in the Audigy control panels?

While we're on the fixing surround sound speakers topic, I might as well ask. How come my 5.1 speakers work in normal conditions, music, etc... but as soon as I go into Counter Strike Source (didnt try it with HL2 yet) nothing EXCEPT the center speaker and the subwoofer works. I changed the settings in windows, in the sound card settings, and in CSS itself, and still not working...

so.. mp3s wont support center channel ey?

someone else has these and he says it works..

but he has the audigy2 pro

mp3's are stereo... how your speakers output that sound is up to your middle guys (ergo.. drivers/sound card/decoder). my Game Theater XP outputs all sounds (not just mp3) as 5.1 (mixing center from both channels) and that was the default setup, i left speakers in 6 channel direct mode of course :)

playing doom3 and half life 2 in 5.1 mode of course also works perfectly with all 6 channels outputting seperate sounds as needed

so if anyone is having trouble with there center speaker in this context i would image first a quick look through all the settings (which i gather has been done) and then just a trip to creative support :p

Just bought one of these speakers which I am using with an Audigy 2 ZS soundcard however I am having trouble setting it up. Actually, I think the basic setup is OK since all the pink test noises are audible however in actual playback of mp3s/cds/movies only the front left speaker and the subwoofer appear to be emitting any noise. The 2 main applications I am using are winamp 5 and windows media player 10. Do I need any specific plugins for these apps to enable 5.1 sound?

Also, I bought a toslink optical fibre cable. However my digital output doesn't seem to be working at all (ie. it can never be detected) even after I set the output to be digital in the audigy command centre.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Um, I am pretty sure I have....I downloaded and installed the latest 2 drivers as listed on the Creative website.

* Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 ZS Driver Update (29/07/04); and

* Digital Rights Management 1.84.0055 for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 ZS series audio devices (09/12/04)

Do I need to install any of the applications as well?

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
