Can't say that I have but it looks sweet, very clean!

The rest of the addons also sound like something I'd use in the old days, I do remember a few of them. Also, thank you for the Carbonite reminder - Beside the lower resource use, how does it differ from QH, harder to use? Thanks for the excellent suggestions (Y)

Re: Carbonite:

Yes and no, it does take some getting used to, but it does work in a very similar way, giving way points to the nearest quest objective and whatnot, as well as a arrow you can setup and move to show you where to go (much like questhelper). I suggest trying it, if you don't like it, you can always uninstall it and reinstall questhelper.

Also FYI, right clicking WoW.exe and running it in Vista compatibility mode with sp2 seems to greatly increase performance under Win 7x64... At least for me. Of course you will get crappy fps (i get around 20) in dalaran, but other places, its always a constant 60fps.

Carbonite - dont use questhelper, its a memory and resource hog, use this instead.

Omen - Threat meter for raids/instances

Qbar - adds a dynamic button bar with quest items only, so u dont need to go searching your bags for items.

Recount - DPS meter

SexyMap - replace the minimap that Caith uses, its crap compared to this one

Xloot - better loot frames.

- Carbonite is just a big of a resource hog. If you're looking for a quest guide download tekkubs' tourguide. It's small and all it gives you is a way point system to the next quest you need to do, it's objective and where to hand in.

- Drop Omen & Recount then grab Skada it'll use 1/5 of the memory and do a better job than omen in tracking your threat too!

- You can drop Qbar and use Cargbags it has a filter for quest items, failing that use just the in game quest tracker it has a button next to the quests which require you to use items.

- SexyMap? Slap yourself for using the default skin! Grab pminimap instead. It'll go better with caith and it doesn't look so ****ing grody.

- Xloot is a resource hog. Use sGroupLoot and Butsu.

If you're looking for minimalistic, practical and clean try:

ALZAUI

TukUi

LUI for something caith-esq

Edit: I'll put my money where my mouth is -

No Targets, Targets, Combat with Cooldowns and my XP bar which flashes after an XP gain.

I've recently switched to Carbonite myself from Quest Helper. For two reasons:

1. It includes an alert whenever it detects the opposite faction within your vicinity.

2. Includes Node data for all Ore and can make a route on your Map for you to follow (Really excellent!)

I personally think that the Interface on Carbonite is poor. That is to say it is very difficult to understand and it uses highly nested menus for the things you want access to and makes things you are unlikely to want to use right up in your face. A poor UI but it is quite advanced with its feature set. I think Quest Helper and Carbonite are pretty much on-par when it comes to the actual process of helping you complete quests although Quest Helper does look nicer.

I'm curious, I haven't played since Wrath came out basically.

Did they ever change it so you can make more than one Death Knight per server, or change it so you can make a Death Knight if you didn't have a level 55 toon or higher?

Just asking because on my friends server I have quite a few toons, but all are under level 25 or so. I rather enjoyed my DK when I played him :D

You can still only have 1 DK per server, but they did change it so you only need one level 55 on the account and then you can make a DK on another server (before, the DK had to be on the same server as the 55). So have a level 55 on server A and you can now make DKs on server B, C, D etc...

Oh for the love of god. I tested out the game after my Vista re-install on my druid and everything was back to normal. I load up my Death-Knight alt which is standing around Dalaran. FPS is averaging 15 or so ... I'm thinking that's Dalaran's fault. I Death Gate back and still 15 ... I fly back to SW and it MAXES out at 20fps

So I'm able to hit 400+ on my druid in Outlands yet I can't even get past 20 on my DK.

Standing up against a wall in SW, UI hidden and I can't even hit 16FPS ...

What is wrong?!

I don't often post here, despite being an avid WoW player (since EU release), but I thought you may be interested in this write-up I did of the Cataclysm starting zones. I was fortunate enough to go as a representative of WoWWiki, and have to say: it all looks awesome.

http://www.wowwiki.com/WoWWiki:Kirkburn%27...Con_2009_Report

Something is definately wrong there Sethos. You SHOULD be getting 60+ fps from that pose against the wall. Can you make a list of addons installed? Also, dont forget your drivers for Catalyst.

Well it wasn't an addon issue or anything like that. I did some troubleshooting and checked the official forums, it's apparently an issue with ATi cards and shadows. Pre-3.x ( Can't remember the exact number ) most ATi users would experience shadow flickering. That was "resolved" by turning off Shadowinstancing through the console. Now Blizzard decided to include this 'fix' in a patch, so when it detects an ATi card it's applied.

Problem is, with this fix disabled, having shadows enabled or having them at high settings with kill your FPS. I can't even turn it shadowinstancing on any more? So now I have to run around with shadows disabled until Blizzard or ATi comes up with a solution.

On a different note, was walking around Stormwind and noticed a lot of dead level 1's, I was like "Huh", then I noticed they actually spelled out a website - Looks like a gold site, they are really getting creative now

GoldSellers.png

They do that all day long on my server (Stormscale-EU) both in Orgrimmar in-front of the Auction House and in Stormwind where Sethos showed his Screenshot.

It's really neat to be able to create both Horde and Alliance characters on PVP Realms :) I've finally got that Gnome Rogue I always wanted

Hopefully this isn't a complete newbie question!

I started another Death Knight on a different server as Horde instead, I just have one problem. Whenever I press any 'build links' to for an example Wowhead, the numbers are all messed up. Like James' DK Leveling Guide those build-links he has, like "Talent Spec at level 80: 16/0/55" just transfers me to a page with a (16/0/33) build. Actually seems like there's a 33 limit everywhere now, how come, what did I miss?

In his guide he says "Talent Build - Updated for 3.0.8". I believe the DK trees got changed in 3.1 or 3.2 (or both). So previous links to talent builds would no longer work. Do a google search for "3.2 death knight build" it'll give links to updated trees.

I'm leveling a DK as well.. I'm no expert or a theorycrafter so I can't say that you must heed my advice or suck, but.. try it ^^

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#jZGZfM0IxfdM0ux0hco

As Blood you actually have no down time at all, unless you try to AoE your way through.. it just doesn't work as well as Unholy/Frost - so that might be a good idea as a leveling build.

But if you do go Unholy make sure that you have set your talents to get a pernament Ghoul pet, it's very helpful.

Oh yeah.. don't forget that you are leveling a new character, not raiding or doing Arena.. so part of your learning is to try out your talents, don't look for pre-made talent builds just yet, try to experiment.

Just don't take PVP talents if you're not planning on PVP'ing..

This is kinda hard ... stuck at level 17 atm ... trying to do the Spinal Dust quest ... PITA!

Ignore that one, it's just a repeatable without any follow-ups. All other quests in Ghostlands are a lot easier and you can just do them all and still get exalted with Tranquillien (which I recommend).

Yup you can, it's designed in such a way that you will get your final piece of gear from the rep vendor just as your leaving the area.

I love the Blood elf zone, it's by far the best in the game and runs rings around the Dranei zone they added in the same expansion. My favourite quest is the one that sends you to Undercity and ends with Sylvanas breaking into song

Do you guys have any tips for getting Wealth from my Horde Characters to my new Alliance Characters on the same Realm?

I have a few friends with Alliance characters but none of them have their characters on the same Realm as me so I can't do any sort of transfers with them. I've begun collecting some wealth with the Rogue I created by making him Mining/Skinning and sending the Ore and Hides to a dedicated Bank character at the Auction House but it would be nice if I could transfer a few thousand gold.

I've read that some people use the Neutral AH to transfer items with a low sell price but that seems kinda risky if someone else intercepts the item before you can.

Put up a rubbish item on the Neutral AH with the character you want to receive the gold for a high amount (or whatever you want to transfer) and have the character you want to transfer money from buy it.

However, remember that the Neutral AH takes a 15% cut.

As for items you want to transfer, you'll have to risk putting up at a low price or have that item be the one you use to send gold over with.

If you go the low price item route, do it at stupid o'clock in the morning to minimise the risk.

    • ExplorerPatcher 26100.8457.70.3 by Razvan Serea ExplorerPatcher is a versatile and free tool that allows you to tweak and enhance the Windows Explorer. It comes with a range of useful features, including the ability to add new context menu items, change file name colors, and enable hidden features. Feature summary Choose between Windows 11 or Windows 10 taskbar (with labels support, small icons and lots of customization). Disable Windows 11 context menu and command bar in File Explorer and more. Open Start to All apps by default, choose number of frequent apps to show, display on active monitor and more. Choose between the Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows NT Alt-Tab window switcher with customization. Lots of quality of life improvements for the shell, like: Skin tray menus to match Windows style, make them behave like flyouts and center them relative to the icon. Choose action when left and/or right clicking the network icon. Revert to the Windows 7 search box in File Explorer, or disable Windows Search altogether. Disable immersive menus and use mitigations that help you run the real classic theme without glitches. Discover the program's full range of features by reading this wiki article. ExplorerPatcher 26100.8457.70.3 changelog: Tested on OS builds 22621.4317, 22631.7079, 26100.6899, 26100.8037, 26200.8246, 26200.8457, 26300.8493, and 28000.2113. TIP: Windows Defender no longer flags ExplorerPatcher. It is no longer needed to configure Defender exclusions. Enjoy! Important Update for Windows Insider Users If you're running Windows 11 Beta build 26220.8474 or Experimental build 26300.8493, updating ExplorerPatcher is highly recommended. Microsoft has removed parts of the old Windows 10 Start menu from these builds, which caused ExplorerPatcher's Windows 10-style taskbar and Start menu to crash. This update fixes those issues and ensures Explorer starts correctly after future Windows updates. Because the required components are no longer included in Windows, the Windows 10 Start menu option has been disabled on these builds and future builds that lack the necessary files. A temporary workaround is to replace StartTileData.dll with a version from build 26xxx.8457, but this solution may stop working in future releases. The good news: development on the Windows 10 Start menu isn't over yet. More updates are planned. Highlights Fixed crashes affecting the Windows 10 battery flyout on Windows builds 25951 and newer. As part of that fix, network flyout buttons now behave like they did before Windows 11 version 24H2. Changes to the Primary taskbar location on screen setting now apply instantly without requiring a restart. ExplorerPatcher no longer modifies Windows 11 taskbar auto-hide settings when Explorer starts. The Open Start in All apps by default option is now hidden when the new Windows 11 Start menu is enabled. Fixed Windows 10 Start menu crashes on very early Windows 11 builds (21996–22000.51). Fixed a crash in Registry Editor when switching to thumbnail view during registry import/export operations. Improved compatibility with recent Windows builds, especially ARM64 and upcoming 26H1 releases. Improved overall ARM64 performance. Added Greek language translations. Thanks to @KonVetsos! ep_taskbar Improvements ep_taskbar now supports all 43 Windows 11 display languages. Fixed several issues in the system tray and other taskbar components. For mod developers: DLL naming has been simplified and made easier to understand. For mod developers: internal TrayUI changes provide better stability across Windows builds that use different taskbar implementations. Windows 10 Start Menu Improvements To help preserve compatibility, ExplorerPatcher now includes a newly recreated version of the tile layout engine that Microsoft removed in build 26xxx.8474. Current limitations: Tiles may occasionally overlap when pinned in certain ways. Restarting StartMenuExperienceHost.exe or Explorer usually corrects the layout. Further improvements are planned. Additional Fixes Added a blacklist that prevents ExplorerPatcher's shell extension from loading inside specific applications where it may cause problems. Updated Windows 10 Start menu animation support for newer ARM64 Insider builds. Fixed a rare taskbar initialization deadlock that could occur during startup. Start10 Updates Addressed a new compatibility issue caused by Microsoft's ongoing removal of tablet mode code in Windows 11 25H2 Experimental builds. Pinned tiles are no longer reset after repeated crashes. Various wording and interface text improvements throughout the application. Translation and UI Several interface strings have been cleaned up and clarified. Thanks to @sefinek for wording improvements. Please consult the README for more details.
