Am I missing something here? Did the Black Morass grow to the north before the Dark Portal was destroyed (which changed the southern part to the Blasted Lands)? Or did Blizz simply decide to make it smaller for the instance (which wouldn't make sense given how large Old Hillsbrad Foothills is)? I just don't get it.

Old Hillsbrad is "more or less" the current version with a handful of new 'structures' plonked on it. They replace "old n busted church" with "new hotness" and populate it with a handful of new NPCs and call it a day.

The difference between blasted lands before and after the war is pretty substantial: significant landscape changes, different creatures, and even the cliamate seems to have changed. If you make it into Mount Hyjal (the CoT Tier 6 raid zone) you'll notice it looks noticeably different from Mount Hyjal (the zone you can enter by wall hopping in dark whisper gorge in the game).

If you follow the 'golden path' from instance portal to dark portal you won't really feel any significant difference between 'the real world' and the instanced version. The same is true of mount hyjal (the raid). I knew going in that the landscape wasn't the same, but it felt 'close enough' that—as far as I was concerned—it may as well have been taking place near winterspring. I think specifically in the case of the dark portal raid blizzard shurnk the zone to make it easier for people to figure out where to go. Having an ?ber zone filled with one tiny area that matters + hundreds of ignorable trash mobs didn't add anything to the game. It's a ~20 minute encounter: imagine if you actually had to spend 50% of your time in the zone riding past scenery just to start the darn thing: not fun, and it doesn't really fit with blizzards new policy of "45 minutes is too long for a dungeon run". Imagine if the culling of Stratholme event started at undercity and the only encounter took place on the gate leading to the front doors of the city.

I'm not convinced the tower of karazhan (raid) could fit inside the physical tower in the game world (or naxramus could fit inside the floating structure in eastern plaguelands/dragonblight) but the architecture felt right-enough that it wasn't a bother. I distinctly remember that looking out from Nefarian's balcony felt wrong too. I think the landscape was wrong somehow - but I could never really put my finger on exactly what.

Yeah I suppose. It just seems a little lazy to me. Either way, it was still cool to be there when the Dark Portal was first opened.

Happy 3.3 eve!

Woooooooo! I'm so excited for this one.

Frost raiding (hopefully at least, I'll have to do some comparisons to see), cross-realm instances (so many more people will be running low-level instances), Tier 10... So much good stuff!

Yeah, good luck with that. Willing to bet the game will be unplayable for roughly 48 hours after the patch, just like every major patch day... :sleep2:

I generally don't have too many issues on patch days. As long as I give it a few hours after servers are back up it seems to do fine.

I hope you don't mean 19 days /played!

Friendly tip from one hunter to another, be on the lookout for Eternal Shadows/Earths.

Epic ammo can be made from 2 Crystallized Earth (for guns) or Shadow (Bows).

Man, I hate patch days.

Last night I finished a term paper that had to be 6 pages so I could play today.

This wait is killing me, >.<

yes, I mean 19 days /played.\, and yeah I have plenty of Earths ... got loads of Mammoth Cutters to go through right now though

Yeah, I wanted to play this morning before I take the kids to school ... but servers went down extra early :(

I hear that. I was gonna log in and level an alt for a bit until I realized they downed all the servers like 4 hours early.

Hopefully they are up by 4-5 Eastern, if not I'm going to catch Brothers at the cinema for $5 dollar tuesday! :D

how do you have the calendar, time, gold etc at the top like that? I want something similar ... I use nui+ but don't see anyway to add that

Actually, I Don't use Fubar, I use what's called BROKER, because it uses less memory than fubar. :)

Just look up Broker on wow-interface.

I gave you some of the good ones. :)

SO are all of these addons going to be borked when the new patch is live? I've become used to using nui+ and love it too much to go back to plain jane wow interface :l

It might work, just click on addons when your at the character screen and hit load out of date addons and see what happens.

    • What I like about Paint is using it almost exclusively for cropping and resizing images I get elsewhere--it's quick, easy and cheap... I keep it glued to my taskbar, in fact.
    • I still remember it fondly today. It was so cool to work in 64-color Half Bright mode and 4.096-color HAM mode (interlaced) when x86 was still in 4-color CGA or 16-color EGA low res. C= never realized what it had until it was far too late--the failure of C= was the failure of its top management. The C= Amiga was 20 years ahead of its time, I always thought. It didn't hurt that in only 512k of chip memory, the Amiga could preemptively multitask when Apple was still doing gray scale graphics on tiny screens and along with everyone else was doing cooperative multitasking (running more than one app at a time in resident memory, but you could only run one of them at a time--had to manually switch between them.) I had a ball with AREXX scripting running between programs that had AREXX ports so that when you sent other applications data and instructions, those running applications could process the same in real time to output! Memories...
    • I'm not sure about that, but it at least "does" a version of 7.1 that this brand new card doesn't....

    • I can barely recall getting web results from a file search... I must've turned it off long ago. 26H2 is Insider's Preview build 26300.8697, which I am running, atm. It is not available for people running the standard commercial builds of Windows--only for the beta test Insider's group. But anyway, as mentioned in the thread, this feature has been around for a long time...
