BBC Broadcasting on the Internet now

Recommended Posts

Look, I just want to make one thing clear. Everyone who is viewing this stream and is NOT in the UK or who has NOT paid their license fee is committing a felony.

We pay ?126.50 / year to fund the BBC, as a license fee, ($240.71) as what is effectively a tax.

If you are caught without a license, you have to pay a fine of ?1000 ($1902) and make a court appearance. License fee revenues across the UK ar ?2.798 billion/b> This is the reason why the BBC can employ circa 30,000 staff, and run high-quality commerical free channels.

When you watch this stream, and you are in Canada, the US, France, Australia, etc..., you are doing the exact same as downloading an illegal mp3 or a movie from the internet, it is piracy from a news station with a royal charter.

Neowin discussion rules dictate:

&quRule #2/b>:No Warez (links) & Cracks: help, requests or posts that discuss circumvention. This includes linking to illegally obtained software, movies & music files - posting about it, and suggesting to get it."

Anyone from the US saying: ooh, I got to watch this stream, commiting the same offense as saying: ooh, I just downloaded a pirated version of xp and have just installed it. Can mods either outright ban or at least warn people who do this, and at least edit the original post/title WARN ALL NON-LICENSE FEE PAYERS THAT WATCHING THIS, FOR THEM, IS ILLEGAL./b>

Not always, it depends how long you have had a TV without a license, a friend of mine got fined about ?400 for not having a license for a few months..

high-quality commerical free channels.

High quality? my ar**, the BBC content is crap.

WARN ALL NON-LICENSE FEE PAYERS THAT WATCHING THIS, FOR THEM, IS ILLEGAL.

Thats impossible, how are the mods to know who has a TV License or not? why not just ban talking about TV altogether.

100% True. What the BBC is doing is irresponsible, they should perhaps make it available to those who pay TV license. Not any old joe on the net.

@ Colin

See Here.

It says:

Using a TV or any other device to receive or record TV programmes (for example, a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) without a without a valid TV Licence is against the law and could lead to prosecution and a fine of up to ?1,000, not to mention the embarrassment and hassle of a court appearance

Oh, and your "friend" is a worthless cheap-ar** freeloader too. Okay?

High quality? my ar**, the BBC content is crap.

Try going overseas at watching US tv, with its "infomercials" and all. Or perhaps you feel that piracy is justified if you download a ****ty pop mp3, as opposed to good music?

Thats impossible, how are the mods to know who has a TV License or not? why not just ban talking about TV altogether.

The mods do know. Those in the US, with a US IP, or those who evepostb> that they're in the US or otherwise who say that they're watching the stream are liable.

Thanks!

WOW, i never knew they have ppl with vans/handhelds to check for licensed TVs.

The whole concept is bizarre and for some reasons, reminds me of 1984

Reported. I'm trying to stop a crime. You, sir, are just flaming.

Rule #5: No Flaming, Personal attacks such as flaming, instigating "flame bait", verbal abuse or mocking of members in forum posts are not tolerated at Neowin. Such posts will be deleted on sight and moderated accordingly. If you are a long standing member, act like one. Lead by example and assist other newer members rather then attacking them. Just grow up a bit, okay? Evading the license fee is illegal. I pay it, therefore I get to watch it. If you don't pay, you shouldn't watch. If you disagree, they can come and sue you. And if you don't pay, I hope you get caught, okay?

My god people. Your making such a big deal out of this. :argue:

P.S has anybody noticed that the links at the beginning of this thread are Unicast and not Multicast. if you want multicast you have to change the word 'uni' in teh link to 'multi' :D

P.P.S

this is on the multicast page since it seems like nobody bothered to read it.

http://support.bbc.co.uk/multicast/streams.html

* note unicast is only available by arrangment for testing

blazingtech, I have no idea what the **** you're talking about.

I was just askign whats wrong with what he said. I think you're being a bigger troll.

Yes I do pay the liscence fee of ?126.50/year. No I don't think its right that others should get what I paid for, for free.

However what you have said is not relevent to what I said.

BigCheese, my sincerest apologies - rereading what you wrote, I got completely the wrong end of the stick  - I'm in a weird mood today, feel urgent need for a cup of tea/coffee. I'm gonna go off to lunch - woke up only a short time ago - maybe my head'll be better later. Again, sorry :(

(I'll edit my earlier post)

Cakey - heh :D
