Personally for me the lack of HD won't make a difference since I can't afford a high-end plasma/LCD. HD is not that common in the UK anyway compared to the US where it might put people off it.

At the end of the day if they're trading off graphics for gameplay then that's a philosophy I can appreciate.

This is true, but the point I was making is that I appreciate Nintendos philosophy of not getting into 'spec wars' comparing horsepower and how pretty a game can be made and looking more at innovation and enhancing gameplay.

I'm not a Nintendo fanboy, I'll still get an x360 when the UK gets more stock.

smart move nintendo... considering that HD in North america now accounts for aprox 20% of TV's sold, and is increasing at a very fast pace... and within the life time of the revolution HDTV will become mainstream as it is definatly more affordable now then it ever was and is only going to become cheaper now that digital TV will be the standard in 20" and larger TV's by mid 2006 in the USA and below that by 2008... (yes digital != HD, but it allows for it a lot easier)

Everyone is getting so excited about PS3 and Xbox 360 having HD, but seriously how many people actually have a HD TV or even know what it is? It won't affect Nintendo's sales much.

I disagree.. it could have a huge impact on nintendo's sales. XBOX 360 and PS3 are pushing HDTV sales a great bit, and in the town I live in (about 50,000 people in it) a very large number of people have HDTV's all you can get anymore at stores are LCD's or plasma or projection HDTV's it seems like, SD tv's seem to be dieing out in terms of sales, even walmart sales about 80% HDTV's now in their selection here.

In the USA at least HDTV is quickly becoming mainstream and standard... I don't know what is going on over in England, but here it's quickly becoming the norm

Yeah, I didn't think that USA is probably ahead of us in terms of HDTV. I don't know anybody that has a hdtv. The only one I have seen was at a pub and they were showing sky sports in HD. I partly take back what I said, considering the size of USA market compared to UK. It will have an impact but not a huge impact, I think.

Being a big fan of Nintendo's games, and having just bought an HD LCD TV, I'm a little disappointed; but at the end of the day, the resolution of a game isn't going to affect my enjoyment of it. It's a matter of personal preference, but I'd rather be playing Nintendo's games at standard resolution than an Xbox game in High Definition.

As for the HDTV situation in the UK; it's still small, but it's growing rapidly. Sales of LCD and Plasma TVs started outstripping CRT sets several months ago now, and almost every new LCD or Plasma model released now is HD ready. It's not something people are generally running out to buy, because the only reason to have one at the moment is to use a HTPC or an Xbox 360; no HDTV service has been launched here yet (but soon).

If someone happens to be in the market for a new TV however, it's more likely they'll buy an LCD or Plasma model, and that TV is likely to be HD Ready, whether they're looking for HD or not.

I don't think having no HD is that big of a deal... If the fact that you can't run a game in 720p alone turns you off from a system well...then what do you play games for? Watch a movie or something.

Nintendo is appealing to the casual gamer, who tend to be less tech-savvy. The casual gamer most likely has no idea what HD even stands for. I don't think this will effect their sales. If it does, they could always do a revision of the console to support HD.
