Official WWDC 2005 Keynote Discussion

umm aside from their powerpc processors and shiny outter casing everything in a mac you could get in the PC world. infact i personally feel that aside from the G5 processors those same components you can get in the PC world, are lower end components.  the only reason (i feel) that OSX runs so smooth on this lower powered hardware is because of both optimization of mac software to work on these components and the fact that there are very few things u can customize inside a mac and thus most of the different 'packages' are the same under the hood.

Two and a half years ago I bought an iBook for OS X, but now I am going to be buying an iMac because of how good the hardware is. I dont know if you work around PCs, but they are so cheap and ugly these days I cant stand it.

I could do everything I want on linux and a cheap PC, but I prefer macs for their quality hardware and software integration.

my next iBook will come down (plus a 4+Ghz iBook in sounding sweet!).

yeah, but a 2ghz ibm chip is as fast as a 4ghz intel chip

clock speed (ghz) is not the end all be all. in fact, the GHZ rating has very little to do with the perforamce of the chip.

whats the fastest amd right now? 2.2ghz and they clean out the intel chips in most benchmarks.

but i will agree that the chip the computer uses takes the back seat to the os its running, and the overall quality of the book.

but i dont care what my laptop looks like, so, ill prolly go buy a $600 dell laptop and put osx x86 on it and call it a day.

First, Macintosh is a brand, not an idea.  If it's a computer and Apple sells it...it's a Macintosh.

And yes...they buy 2000 dollars worth of hardware for the OS.  There's a reason they don't spend that on a Dell.  They have essentially the same parts.  it's certainly not for the performance.  We've known for some time that a highend Mac cannot keep up with a highend Dell/HP.  Your looking way too much into this

So you bought the iMac for the appearance...not the parts inside.  Because the hardware is the exact same.  Processor, ram, hd, cards

Um, i dont know about you, but you can not compare a high end mac to a high end PC, because the highend mac's parts in the PC world are actual low end or middle end. you take that $2000 your gunna spend on a Mac, and if you know a little about putting a PC together you can have a powerhouse computer that even NASA would envy ;)

(BTW, please dont take the above as mac bashing, im just pointing something out.)

LMAO

How does a high end Mac = low end PC ?

Read> the latest Anandtech article andstop> spreading FUD.:))

It's just not working for me. I get up to the part where he talks about transitions and either I lose sound, it freezes or quicktime 7 crashes on me. In fact quicktime 7 isn't very stable at all for me. It crashed earlier when watching the Batman Begins trailer too. If someone has a download of this keynote please inform us as to where we can get it.

wow...just wow.....h.264 blows me away...the quality on that thing is amazing...watching the strem now...it's like watching a nice video....very impressed...:D

(with QT for Windows 7) it freezes after 13 seconds and the quality is that of a 28 kbps uber compressed .mov.

sure ok well with that resoning they could call it Tatertots insead of Macintosh, but once its running the same architecture that runs microsoft windows its:yes:. (theres a reson in the comming years it will be called a mactel like people call them wintel machines.)

um...no....I just watched the whole thing with no problem...and I stretched the image 110 times it's orginal size (the small one) and the image is still crystal clear, I don't know why people are having trouble, it's working famously for me...:D

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
