At first, pot can make people feel relaxed, in a good mood and even silly. Users will likely experience dry mouth, rapid heartbeat, some loss of coordination and poor sense of balance, and slower reaction times, along with intoxication. Blood vessels in the eye will expand causing the red-eye effect. NIDA

Smoking marijuana may impair short-term memory while people are using the drug. This happens because all forms of marijuana contain THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the main active chemical in marijuana, which alters the way the brain works. After a few minutes, paranoia or anxiousness may set in, then intense hunger (a.k.a. the munchies). Finally, sleepiness

OH WOW! SUCH A BAD DRUG!

The problem with pot is that it's way more powerful now - due to farmers cloning and distributing the most volatile plants.

Nevermind the possiblility of getting some herb sprinkled with meth/speed/ex.

You just don't know what's in it now - and although marijuana isn't addictive, I'm pretty sure that the dealers want recurring customers :p Therefore it wouldn't surprise me if pot nowadays is mixed with some sort of addictive product.

As for people who are baked? It's impossible to judge. Some people go silent as a rock and you can't even talk to them (which is weird)...some people get really funny :p But generally the mild paranoia the user experiences leads to a feeling of being "outcast" when around sober folks :D so the sober folks just leave them alone adding to the paranoia effect.

imho weed is no good unless you know exactly what's in it and how it treats you. same with booze. luckily, booze is regulated and tested. weed's illegal so the only way to know for sure is to grow yourself (which can be kinda difficult to explain to the power co./parents/signif. others....)

+As a medicine, the worldwide use of CANNABIS/HEMP/MARIJUANA goes back at least 6,000 years. It has been found to be healthy and effective in the treatment of chronic pain, cancer, strokes, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, sickle cell anemia, AIDS wasting and many other illnesses, including simple nausea, appetite stimulant, anxiety and muscle pains, etc.

That is an arguement for medicinal use, not recreational use.

Alcohol and smoking cause enough problems in society without legalising marijuana... you can get enjoyment out of life without being in a drug induced state. If smoking weed is what you need to do to be happy then that is very sad. I don't claim that is has any serious health risks, aside from the way it changes some people's personality, but I disagree with it from a social standpoint.

weed is more potent today because of better growing methods, hydroponics, and better cross breeds but why do people think dealers lace weed with hard drugs? how would you make money putting an extra money into what your selling, plus its not like you woudn't notice hard drugs in your weed. furthermore unless your smoking out of a glass pipe most spliffs and pipes won't get hot enough to smoke meth, crack.

Marijuana is an evil plant that makes one extremely lazy and also leads to the use of cocaine and other hard drugs. It has ruined numerous communities. Keep it illegal and expand the penalties for possessing it at the federal level.

As for alcohol.. I believe all except mild wines should be banned. The reason for keeping wine around is, wine is OK because our Lord drank it and even transformed water into it. The age should be raised to 25 for any alcohol at the least.

Unfortunately, you forgot a 3rd item for the vote/poll:

O - Neither

Now THAT would make the poll a little more interesting.

 ....

Meanwhile back in the real world...

I voted for Marijuana, even though i stopped smokin it a while back

Those 3 chemicals are much harder to come across, much more expensive than pot, and have a MUCH different effect than weed.

IMO, if someone smokes laced weed, the only thing it would be laced with is PCP since embalming fluid is very cheap. And if you do come across that weed and smoke it, I can garantee you that you will NOT be going back to the same person for weed because it will be a HORRIBLE experience. Laced weed will have a distinct smell and a horrible taste. Only weed will smell like a plant and taste like a spice you could find in your spice rack.

As to the person who replied to my comment about medical usage, your absolutely correct. However, how can you say a little social use here and there cant have positive side effects?

To the person who said that weed is more potent nowadays, you are absolutely correct as well. However, this means that the more potent the weed, the less you need to smoke. It doesnt make it more dangerous than less potent weed, theres just more stuff in it. Its like comparing a wine cooler to everclear -- but without the negative side effects of alcohol.

You also do not have to smoke marijuana to get the desired effects. Vaporizing reduces almost all tar and works by heating the marijuana up to the 200 or so degrees when the THC vaporizes...therefore you get pure THC vapor and no smoke -- perfectly healthy. You can also bake marijuana in fatty foods. The fat absorbs the THC into the food and the heat activates it. So when you digest, you feel the effects, but with no negative health effects.

Yes, I smoke. No I do not smoke daily, maybe once a week. Just like with alcohol, moderation is key. The more you do it, the more addicted you will get. People say weed isnt addicting, but that is also a misconception. It is psychologically addicting (not physically addicting like crack cocaine, etc...). Your body isnt dependant on the THC, but the mind craves it because the person enjoys it so much.

It seems alot of people like to cry foul without doing the slightest bit of research from nonbiased sources.

Hmmmmmm, Brownies...

Another reason I'm pro-marijuana is from an economical standpoint. I just think that the millions (billions?) of dollars spent every year on a drug war could be put to better use because, well where I'm from anyways, if you want some weed, its not hard to get at all. Nothing is stopping marijuana smokers from getting what they want, it hasn't worked in the past, and it isn't working now.

It just seems that socially, physcially, and economically, marijuana should be legal, and it seems that many people are starting to realize that its not the evil plant its made out to be. If someone wants to ruin their lives with marijuana, so be it. There are many alcoholics out there ruining their lives too. One just needs to learn how to use the drug responsibly, just as most drinkers do.

-}x0{-  it is nice to see someone who is educated and not a sheep that follows what ever they are told is true.

Yeah, I forgot to add that. I hate when people say weed can mess your life up etc. I mean, it probably can, but damn! I don't smoke often but I do every once and a while. Sometimes MONTHS pass before I light up. Last time I smoked was about 4 months ago. My ex and I smoked. MAN that was a great night...:D

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
