+Seetheworldsecond Subscriber¹ Posted November 5, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted November 5, 2005 ok I voted Alcohol because Its already legal if your 21 and younger in other places,Anyway tho I rather Have it keep legal as long as your 21,Cause Marijuana is illegal for any age right now except for medical use,and If it was to turn legal then everyone of all age would have it,and I rather not have a bunch of high people around me,in schools,in the community, etc. It should remain illegal as it is. Everything is ok as it is right now,Marijuana is practicular already legal, I mean not really, but for real how easy it is to score some Marijuana???? :ninja:

cdokakis
alcohol is already legal, and it should stay that way. but with my personal experience with marijuana (and note this, im not a doctor or anything, just a stupid guy who likes to smoke from time to time) i think it should be legalized. somebody said they didnt want high people around them, in schools and so on. do you actually see drunk people wandering around the cities or what? why do you think there will be high people running around the cities when people affected by a legalized drug (alcohol) isnt? yeah, whatever, it will never happen anyways, people are too narrowminded.. :(
ghostwind
it does have its effects, but i can handle them all. 586760952 I agree with you kind of... Like alcohol, it does have its effects, but many posts on here tout it as beinging a perfectly perfectly safe drug. There is no totally safe drug. Even somthing is "weak" as ASA are not completely safe. ASA can cause a disorder "which slips the top of my mind" in people under 21. Pot is the same way... Snipe
Alcohol. I'd imagine most of the people who are arguing pro-marijuana have had experience with it and know the effects. If they havn't tried it or used it extensively, they have no room to speak. Subfusion
I just don't understand why marijuana is illegal in some places (Over here in Spain, if you're over age you can legally own two plants and smoke in your house), seriously. Alcohol is stronger than marijuana and is more addictive. I've seen more alcoholics than potheads...
travl0r
yeah marijuana does less damage to the brain than alcohol and with my personal experience i can say that u have a lot less chances to have an car accident when you are high than when you are drunk
naap51stang
Personally, I don't do either. Never done marijuana, and my "drinkin" days are long since past. I'm allergic to marijuana anyway...LOL...I get anywhere near dried plants and I start sneezing! As for which I think is better/worse for you, I think it's a 50-50 thing. Personally, I think I would rather have someone stoned behind the wheel of an automobile than someone intoxicated (would really rather have neither!). As for those who don't understand why one is illegal and the other not (in the USA), it's the law....pure and simple. Alcohol use to be illegal, but that law was changed. If those that wish to use marijuana legally would work to change the law, then they wouldn't get hassled so much. I could care less what anyone does inside the confines of their home, but if you get it out in public and get caught, then unfortunately you have to suffer the consequences of your actions. :alien:

sp0rk
I'd choose Marijuana to be legal if the required age was 18. Because then, I'd be able to get Alcohol easily from a dealer and Marijuana from the store. Otherwise, I'd rather alcohol be legal at 21. I'm 18, and I can get both, but Marijuana is a lot easier for me to get. Also, Marijuana is a lot safer. We had a big discussion on Neowin before about people under the influence of Marijuana. I'm not gonna get in a huge debate here, but DMV reports show that people driving under the influence of Marijuana generally drive a lot safer than people under the influence of alcohol. I'm not saying that you should drive while under the influence of any mind altering substances, but it happens, and I'd rather have people high driving home from clubs at 3am than have people drunk driving home from clubs at 3am. On top of that, alcohol addiction is far more prevalent than Marijuana addiction. If alcohol was illegal, I'm sure it'd prevent a lot of people from becoming alcoholics, just like the inverse of that would be true if Heroin was legal: You'd have a lot more junkies. PsychoDoughBoy
Marijuana is an evil plant that makes one extremely lazy and also leads to the use of cocaine and other hard drugs. It has ruined numerous communities. Keep it illegal and expand the penalties for possessing it at the federal level. Do you have any links to back that up (case studies on communities that it ruined would be nice)? As for alcohol.. I believe all except mild wines should be banned. The reason for keeping wine around is, wine is OK because our Lord drank it and even transformed water into it. The age should be raised to 25 for any alcohol at the least. 586760941 Raising the drinking age ain't going to fix the problem, sweetie. Teaching children from a (relatively) young age about responsible consumption is probably the best way of prevent abuse. If you increase the drinking age, you're only going to increase the appeal of it to rebelious teenages. Also, beer was around when Jesus was. Who's to say he didn't drink beer? sp0rk
I'd also like to add that Marijuana was made illegal by a racist campaign and one man's personal crusade against drugs. You can read a somewhat biased but factually correct webpage about it here: http://blogs.salon.com/0002762/stories/200...anaIllegal.html There's also a great impartial look at the history of Marijuana done by the History Channel called "Marijuana / Hooked - Illegal Drugs & How They Got That Way." It's on Demonoid.com if anyone is interested in seeing it. Edited November 7, 2005 by sp0rk
Fedorpheux
im still gunna have to disagree. beer makes you feel like you can do anything. guys especially.. thats why there are so many drunk fights. have you ever heard of a high fight? hellls no. high people are nice and think everything is funny.but thats enough of that. i guess theres no way to prove it. maybe some people are different.. 586760960 I tend to rely on my personal experiences more than what I see or here about from the mass media sources (including the internet) because all of that stuff can actually be amazingly biased from the truth. So, I speak from my personal experiences. Personally, I have never witnessed a high fight or a drunk fight so 0 vs 0 isn't a very interesting statistic. Sure you see and here about more drunk fights, but I don't trust media for about a zillion and a half reasons. You say "beer makes you feel like you can do anything" and again, I'm going to have to say that is on a case by case basis. I could say something like "beer makes you want to wear a pink dress with yellow polka dots" and even if that is true for a couple people, that obviously is not a very accurate statement. I know that is an exageration of your example, but I'm just trying to get my point across. It all depends on the person, the situation, and a bunch of other things. Also, relying on my personal experiences again, I've witnessed people who were high (and only high, no alcohol) who certainly felt like they could do anything. I've seen both drunk and high people think that. That also goes for drunk high people and high drunk people. This relates to my next point... ...I am sure very few people consider trying to drive/operate heavy machinery etc etc whilst stoned. I am sure those that do also drive drunk. Edit: Also, drunk people in a very good mood can turn nasty very quickly. Drunk = emotionally unstable. This is not so with cannabis. 586761868 Like I said before, I will rely on my personal experiences for this one. I've never been at a party where somebody got really drunk and decided to go out for a spin. I have, however, been at a party where somebody who was quite high (been through a joint circle and several rounds of a circle with a bubbler) who all of a sudden decided to go out for a ride in their car. This was late at night (midnight-ish) and this party was out in a heavily wooded, wet, foggy area with lots of deer, windy roads, and other unsafe driving conditions. This guy went out to his car and left before we could stop him. I am still surprised to this day that this guy is still alive. He didn't go anywhere in particular but once he got back (about half an hour or 45 minutes later) he said that it was really fun just driving around the curves really fast. That kind of stuff really bothers me. Again, I think that your "Drunk = emotionally unstable. This is not so with cannabis." statement still depends on the person. There are many people who can hold their alcohol very well and there are many people that start freaking out after a few puffs off of a joint. Personally, I've seen a lot of both of those. It really just depends on a bunch of factors. I know that my statements don't display perfect statistics for the entire world and all drunk and/or high experiences, but they are what I base my opinion on because I don't use "proof" (and I use that term loosely) that I see on TV or movie, hear on radio or from people, or find out about on the internet. All of that stuff is just way too unreliable and way too easy for the facts to be distorted and/or biased. My 2 cents...or maybe that's up to 3 cents by now.

If LSD was legalized, I could do it safely without being an idiot, but it's not just about me. You have to look at the statistics, because your small experience with the drug doesn't capture the whole picture. I'm not for the banning of alcohol, either, I just think that people are more likely to do stupid stuff when under the influence. Alcohol removes you inhibitions, that's a proven fact. It's not the case with Marijuana. Yes, there are always going to be stupid people that partake in whatever is out there and do unresponsible things under the influence, but they weren't exactly responsible when they were sober, either. I understand your opinion though, and I respect that. It's hard to debate drugs and religion on the internet, because opinions/thoughts on those two things are ingrained in most people as a child, and they won't accept otherwise. I could link to 500 medical studies about Marijuana not having any serious long term effects, and I'd still see someone posting about how their friend's uncle's cousin is now a vegetable after smoking one joint. You ask cannabisculture.org or whatever site that was for statistics about this stuff, of course they'll favor marijuana. You ask the government for statistics, of course they'll favor alcohol (over marijuana, at least). You ask your pothead friend Joe, of course he'll favor marijuana. You ask some "independent" research firm, I bet they'll often favor alcohol (over marijuana) because often they get grants from the government and money is power. Sure you could link to 500 medical studies about marijuana not having any serious long term effects, but I could probably link to about 1000 studies saying otherwise and then you could find another thousand "proving" your point and we'd go back and forth forever. I just think that kind of stuff is pointless. It's not that my feelings are irremovable ingrained into my brain. I can easily change, as long as I see good reason to. I just don't trust any of these "statistics" or stuff like that. I will admit so all reading this post can see, I would be willing to bet that alcohol, in general, will usually lead to people (not "make") doing generally more "stupid" and dangerous things than marijuana. Hell, I voted in the poll in this thread in support of marijuana. All my previous replies as well as this one are mainly to point out that the "facts," "studies," and "statistics," that many of you are referring to are rather pointless.
