Having just booted a Linux cd I can confirm it works ;)

In fact once you've installed the firmware update, you simply have a pc with efi & bios support. I have my iMac with Windows XP as the only OS right now, I didnt even start the Boot Camp application...

I based it off the screenshots posted on the German site few pages back.

According to the site this is what you get when popping in a pre-Windows XP SP2 disc:

And yeah I gathered from the package contents that Boot Camp is nothing more than a nice setup wizard.

Maybe someone can explain this to me? How is this different than the method that won the contest? Does this finally have VGA acceleration? This sounds great though, I will be trying it out when I get home from work. (Y)

If you've used XOM you need to boot from the OS X DVD and repartition your HDD to a single free space section.

Then reinstall OS X, and run the updater. Something to do with what the XOM does to the partition table as I understand.

Yes.

And the sound uses the internal speakers, switch to the intel drivers from the xom wiki if you want to use external speakers.

Does anyone know how long Boot Camp takes partition the HD on a MacBook Pro. I am creating a 10GB Windows partition and it seems to be taking an age. :unsure:

It took mine about 1-2 minutes to do a 15GB partition. The first time I tried to do a 25GB and it took a while then errored out and said I need to restore from OS X cds (or something like like). I just reduced it to 15GB and it worked perfect.

Don't know why this suprised so many people. It's quite obviously an attempt to wean Windows users onto OSx. It's a good plan might I add, especially since a way was discovered to run windows on Apples anyways.

If its still chugging I would probably just let it go for a while. Who knows what might happen if you try to stop it. :/

I took a shower, so I don't know the exact time. It beachballed on me before I went in and it was done about 15-20 minutes later.

I'm using the drivers from the Apple CD (except sound as I prefer my external speakers). iMac 2ghz 512mb, 128mb x1600.

It's easily peforming as fast as my Athlon 64 (3500+) with 1gb and 6800GT with XP x64 for desktop stuff...

Just installing Far Cry to have a chuckle now :D

Nice try fellas. The "delete" key on a Mac doesn't function as a delete key does on a PC. The delete key is actually backspace and functions as backspace (moves cursor backwards one space). So instead of hitting Ctrl + Alt + Del, you're hitting Ctrl + Del + Backspace which does nothing.

Update: We have confirmed that this does work however, those who choose to go into domain login mode in Windows XP, beware: the MacBook Pro does not have a "delete" key. The DELETE key on the MacBook Pro is actually Backspace. Since Windows XP requires that you press CTRL + ALT + DEL in order to login in domain mode, this won't be possible unless you attach an external USB keyboard with a real Delete key or disable secure domain login mode (turns off the CTRL ALT DEL request) before restarting Windows XP to apply domain login mode.

BTW, to bring up task manager in Windows XP, use this key combination: Ctrl + Shift + Esc. That way you can bypass the uber-1337 lack of a delete key.

could someone post some comparisons between a windows core duo and a macbook pro for win xp ?? i could ditch buying a new windows notebook and opt for an iBook core duo when it comes out..

Kind of like when you need to defrag a windows box when you want to resize a partition so that you can put linux on it. Sorry for the lack of technical terms.

I haven't done any gaming yet, but have been using Microsoft Visual Web Developer EE for a couple hours now and it seems to be on par with my Dell Latitude D610 2.13GHz 1GB RAM. Oh and mine is a MacBook Pro 2.16 w/ 2GB RAM.
