OMG, I got a warning! Now what?

Can a mod PM me how much time is left for my warning? I think a couple months but not sure...

Question,

Under my avatar I have warning stars which are empty (no warning) and have been empty for as long as I remember. I don't remember ever getting a warning. Is there a way to remove this?

Thank You

The Admins have the ability to show or hide everybody's warning level as part of a universal setting. Currently we show the warning levels just so our members know what their current warning level is (and so they don't have to ask us to tell them).

It would be nice if it would only show the warning meter for those that actually have a warning percentage greater than 0% but we do not have such precision controls. Then the people who don't see the panel would know that they have a 0% warning level. Perhaps such a feature will be added to future versions of IPB or perhaps it takes too great a server toll to be worthwhile.

I don't know what the server toll would you could hack the skin with a php if statement so that if warnX.gif had a number higher than zero... but i'm guessing that would be very deadly to the servers.

Every hack we add costs something so we need to be careful that we don't go crazy on these things.

Thanks for your reply but it does not really address my question.

1. When did I get a warning and what for? Since by following your reply I take that to mean I had a previous warning level which I have no recollection of receiving.

2. If it is a software limitation I can't fathom that since I see very few others in the forum.

3. What was my prior warning level, when it was received, and when was it recinded?

I think these are reasonable questions and it has bothered me for awhile, and having recently purchased my 2nd subscriber subscription maybe someone could help.

Thanks

You can relax; you're in a completely clean state. :) You didn't receive any warnings at all in your time spent on Neowin, but despite that your empty warning level bar will still appear beside your posts as Fred explained - warning bars cannot be hidden for people on 0%.

Any warnings you get will be brought to your attention - there are no 'hidden' warnings.

You've never been warned.

Regardless of your warn level... whether its perfectly clear and no history... to if someone has 100%... it will still display that bar

Thank you both for replying.

I'm still puzzled as I spent 45 minutes looking through the forum and as of yet mine is the only one seen?

If I've never been warned how did I get a warning level bar, how did it get set to 0% from nothing, and why don't I see any others?

Regular members and subscribers cannot see other people's warning levels for obvious reasons. It'll be cannon fodder for people to use in heated arguments such as "oh, your warning level's all the way up to 100%, no wonder you're such a (bleep)."

The warning bar has always been there for the past few years, whether you've been warned or not. As you can see from earlier posts in this thread (or another older thread), it was added to cut down on the amount of PMs sent to moderators asking how high their warning level is.

can an admin tell me how much warn i've got left.(months/weeks) it seems like ages now

please pm me

Did you save the PM sent by the mod that warned you? Take that date and add six months to it.

It is against Neowin policy to discuss member's warn status (or any other type of moderation on a particular member) in public or in threads such as this, so in fact, yes, getting your warn level PMed to you from a staffer is the way to go.......... (Y).

Yes, warnings come down in 20% blocks at a time. There needs to have been no incidents during the six month period (and if I sent you a PM then I would have told you about any incidents that would have interfered).

    • Apple finally brings the slider for Liquid Glass and many other changes by Aditya Tiwari Apple kicked off the official live stream of the WWDC 2026 annual developer event. The company began its latest wave of announcements with changes to the controversial Liquid Glass design language, which debuted last year across Apple's entire software ecosystem. A lot of people didn't like Liquid Glass when it first arrived on iPhone and other devices last year. The devices were plagued with transparency issues and whatnot. While Apple improved things over the year, it has now added a new Liquid Glass slider that lets you switch the transparency from clear to opaque. The sidebars now expand to the edge of the window. When you scroll the UI sideways, the refraction continues beneath the sidebar rather than being cut off at the boundary. Moreover, Apple has changed the way Liquid Glass is rendered across the system. There is a separation between different layers, which makes buttons in the toolbar stand out from the background. Apple said it "deeply appreciates" the feedback it received from users and has made adjustments to Liquid Glass.
    • FWIW, I've been using Helium on Linux and Windows since the first time it was mentioned here. Actually, maybe a day or 3 before, as I searched for it when I saw it mentioned on the MX Linux forums. Haven't had a single issue on either OS. Not bad for a beta.
    • See up until a few years ago y'all could get away with simply denying your war crimes, pretending it never happened. Unfortunately for you, it's the 2020s and Israel's genocide has been livestreamed in real time. You have to be dumber than a rock to think anyone still believes your propaganda. See the cat is already out of the bag. The world already knows who you are so do yourself a favor and just drop the facade. Bet it gets real tiring keep track of all the lies. Take some inspiration from Israeli ministers who boast on live TV they like massacring civilians. Every zionist accusation is after all a confession.
    • He's just reporting what Microsoft posted. https://msmessagecenter.com/MC1381119 It just means that Windows Defender updates will no longer be bundled into the monthly Cumulative Windows security update and will now be a separate download. They'll still be on Microsoft update of course but now they can be released faster.
    • Apple announces iOS 27 with no changes to the list of supported iPhones by Taras Buria At WWDC 2026 in Cupertino, Apple announced iOS 27, the next mobile operating system for compatible iPhones. The update focuses on tweaking and improving last year's iOS 26, particularly in areas like app launch time, Liquid Glass design, and more. Additionally, Apple has reworked Apple Maps with a significantly enhanced Flyover view for a much more realistic view. Apple also promises better performance, smarter search, new Health features, new parental controls, and more. The most important part is that iOS 27 is compatible with all iPhones that can run iOS 26. That means that even the seven-year-old iPhone 11 can run iOS 27 (supposedly better than iOS 26). iOS 27 will be available this Fall, with the first developer betas expected later today. You can follow the live stream here.
