ok, i've played with this thing since the day after leak and i like it a lot aside from some minor glitches, i have no sound (had same issue in .net), IE problem (can be fixed post install, any chance it can be fixed pre-isntall and then redo a CD??) and i know that if i wanna kill timebomb i have to do something with setupreg.hiv, do i replace it with 1 from XP or do i modify it in some way??

oops.. I didn't mean to violate the boards rules..

Also, in the meantime of more playing, I've come across another way to download in Longhorn with IE 6.05 without it crashing.  This way you can download from any source, not just FTP. (It's kinda a bummer, but whatever for now, it's alpha.. live with it).  ;)

Click on the link to start the download, when it asks you to open/save, select one

1.  Saving--> Select where you want to save your download and get it all ready.  THEN.. move that save dialog kinda outta the way and move the mouse over the minimize button of the download dialog.  Hit ENTER (this will save the file) then RIGHT AWAY, hit minimize on the download dialog so that it doesn't try and show the animation that's not there... this way it will not crash.

2.  Opening--> works the same for the most part, except you have to hit tab to get the OPEN button selected, then move it outta the way and.. HIT ENTER, MINIMIZE FAST!

Hope this helps a bit.. :woot:

im not gonna use longhorn on the internet, cuz i heard it can "call home" to microsoft, but from what i've heard, u can also cover the download window with another window and it will also work.

my opinion on the CallHome is its a bit of a myth at this point, it hasnt been proven, and hasnt been dis-proven, the IDW Logging Tool (which is in startup) tries to get a file off a MS server (//ntcore2) and its trying to send a file from (//ntburnlab2/joe(something)) i dont rember it atm, im at school. its been said the Call Home is when you connect to MSN it will send your passport to another server, and will remove you from the betas and will eliminate your opportunity of being in another beta, in which case you can just use a diffrent .net passport than which is assigned to your BetaID. this is just my 2 cents

thought I would take a look, but I got a error with mui files, they couldent be found, how to get around this with out having to manually rename each file to .mui ?

i have a solution to this problem, drop me a PM with your e-mail address in it and i will send you the solution.

Mine freakin well phoned home  There was a bunch of entries in Netstat which spearked concern so I talked to a few of my friends it looked as if Longhorn was Broadcasting itself to Microsoft.. so.. I promply destroyed the CD and partitions

I know its such a pain when betas/alpha phone home like that.

I ended up activating the alpha I had with a .net key. The last thing I wanted Longhorn doing was phoning home.

hehe, funny thing is that XP does that all the time and used to just the same... :) So i doubt you should be worried about MS right now.... they already knew you had it so no big deal... that's what they wanted.. they leaked it :) LOL
