Casino Royale

I can't give a good review of this movie, because the majority of it was POKER! I'm sick of movies trying to leech off this poker rage. Yes poker is huge right now, but Casino Royale just ruined the Bond thing for me
I guess this is really what it comes down to. The movie had a lot of action, but you're right there was a lot of poker too. I guess since I really enjoy playing poker is the reason I didn't mind watching them play poker on screen.

I was actually surprised with the little amount of poker playing there was, considering the movie. The main poker scene was somewhat long, but had it's fair share of action to break it up some, and it was still interesting at that. Beyond that, there wasn't much poker. So I dunno where you go and say the majority of it was poker, because there may have been a half hour tops of poker. I was pleased that they didn't drag the poker way out.

I didn't think there was a lot of "poker" played, but, I think the reason is like you said, the amount of time

spent on TV with poker. But, if they had played the game that Bond usually plays, Chemin de Fer (a variation

of Baccarat), the people who play poker would be going "what is that"? LOL......

I thought it was a pretty good movie, less attention paid to the "gadgets", although I did miss having Q (or as one bond said I guess you are called R)

It did though appear as a long Sony Ericsson Commercial.

It was a great movie. Craig will be a great Bond. And, ugh, that torture scene was painful to watch.

Cant wait till the next movie.

Indeed it was. I was cringing at each hit just thinking about it. Good thing I had my gf there to comfort me. :p

I couldn't stop laughing when he said, "

"

and "

The whole world will know you died scratching my balls

I wasn't amazed, but I did think it was good. The in your face advertising was a bit annoying. Also the sceenery jumped around a bit, one moment he was in a building in Prauge on the phone, the next he walked out in to St Marks Square in Venis...

Why does Vesper at the end still need to Key in Bonds key and password for the money to go to another account if Le Cheffie is dead  Cant she just go with Bond and get her real lover back, or did she get the money to Le Cheffies hence men to let her lover go, and the hence men gave it back to the black terrirst dude?

Explain the ending to me and the top question and Im sure Ill get it :D

I cant remember perfectly, but maybe he was his won bank sorta thing, he ran it and hence can do whatever with the money that gets given to him, its not like a normal bank where there are rules etc what he can do with the money.

Obviously the other bad guys weren't expecting him to use the money for something, hence why they go after him during the movie after he ends up losing it.

She wasn't working for le cheiffie, I'm pretty sure it was for the organisation behind "mr white".

That's why bond and vesper weren't killed when "mr white" killed le chieffie etc because he knew vesper had the account to put it in, but bond had the password, which they both didn't know,so he was needed alive.

It was a good movie but a lot of parts were boring, I loved the action scenes. Some were so good that I said wtf like 20 times. But I loved the opening scene where he's chasing the black guy, that's pretty amazing :)

anyways, 7/10

First thing's first, I couldn't help but notice the huge amount of Sony product placement

  • BRAVIA
Used as all the screens, and advertised in the internet news report
Sony Ericsson
Just everywhere! Notice how every shot of a phone always included the SE writing at the top
Walkman
For some reason, they have a Walkman phone
Cybershot
In Venice, and some of the Cybershot phones
VAIO
Every laptop!
BD Players
Security footage is all stored in BD, even though in reality there would be little need, as they could use a HDD
BD-Rs
See above

It seems to be in all of Sony's films as of late, or maybe I've just picked up on product placement better.

As for the film... :D = Me

In my mind, I will always see Brosnan as Bond, but that's just me I guess. That intro, whoa! (Y)

I also liked the way they played up the tension on the casino tables, leaving me on the edge of my seat. However, looking back, I feel the story wasn't the deepest ever.

I never got the feeling of revelation from the plot twists.

Still, it's a ***** rating for me.

haha anyone been to the sony store recently?

there was a bond suitcase filled w/ all the gadgets (and some) from the movie... i thought it was hilarious.

oh here it is http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP....ctSKU=VGNTXN007

A Great Film. Craig's Bond is the right mix of Connery's and Moores Bond's.

I was happy with the lack of "bond" gadgets, I found the later films focused to much on them. Hopefully the next film will keep using more realistic gadgets like the tracking devices, and the cell phones.

Overall I give a 8.5/10

Seconded about this. :)

I found it to be refreshing, and liked the more down to earth style. It made the movie more immersive to me. Some gadgets and a "Q" could be nice to see in the next Bond, but they shouldn't overdo it like in the past where it seemed to keep getting worse. Some say gadgets are a big part of Bond, and I can agree about that, just as long as it's not THE part. :)

I felt Craig did a good job in shouldering the high expectations and will give it a 4/5. :)

As for product placements, yeah, was in the past Bond as well IIRC. Don't mind it too much as it's at least this time period and not overly unrealistic, although it was a bit in your face at times. I especially found the Vaio and Sony Ericsson phone to be that.

I'm grateful of the time Poker gaming got in the movie. I wouldn't have liked to see more of that.

I was afraid it was going to be much more and the movie would lose its pacing.

Daniel Craig Is Open To A Gay Scene in Next James Bond Film

Daniel Craig is urging movie bosses to revolutionize the James Bond franchise by including a gay scene involving the superspy in the follow-up to Casino Royale. The heartthrob actor has also reportedly told studio chiefs he is prepared to film a full frontal nude scene to please both his male and female admirers.

He says, "Why not? I think in this day and age, fans would have accepted it. I mean, look at (British TV series) Doctor Who - that has had gay scenes in it and no one blinks an eye."

Okkkkkkkkkkkkkk..............

So, le chieffie was working for mr white

So he ran his own bank and bet the money with his own airline company, why would a airline company let him do this is what I dont get

So le chieffie was working for mr white and when le chieffie lost mr whites money that he was keeping in le chieffie bank be tried to get it back in a poker game and failed? so mr white kills him but leaves the other 2 because they have the codes to get the money for mr white, and then mr white would get his money, but bond shot him

what happened to vespers man, he die to if she did, obv mr white would not let vespers man out alive without the money right

I didn't like it at all. First of all, I didn't see Daniel Craig as James Bond. Maybe another spy character, but not James Bond. He just didn't fit the usual mold, didn't act like a Bond. Neither did it comform with many other 007 standards. While the technology of Die Another Day was ridiculous, I like to have some level of technology.

The middle section of the movie was fairly boring. I hated the poker bit. Using the latest fad, which I happen to hate, it just made the whole movie, proficient until that moment, seem to fade. I happen to enjoy poker, even before the fad, but I hate watching it. I certainly didn't want that level of card-playing to factor into the situation.

The Bond villain was hardly the evil genius of past films, and I disliked the fact that someone else defeated Le Chieffre and saved Bond. It seemed that the plot used a deus ex machina ending, especially with all the various storylines being thrown in at the end. While the story was comprehendable, it was confusing and seemingly opening a new chapter while still ending the movie. It actually seemed like the main plot line was finishing, only to begin several more that seemed rather random and without provocation. Events occurred quickly and with little explaination or action by Bond himself. Again, deux ex machina.

The first section of the movie wasn't bad. It would qualify as a nice action movie, not a Bond movie, but an independant action movie with some quality by itself. The rest was garbage.

I'd give it a 2 1/5 * out of 5.. i didn't think that great of it. something about it wasn't bond, maybe i have gotten used to what bond is and not this new bond. i was ok with craig as bond but the material left me wanting more. something about it didn't click with me. it wasn't the gadgets, it wasn't the beauties, it was the story that just left me feeling empty.

I saw it quite some time ago. I usually hate bond films (too boring, action = yawn), but this was really good!

I liked how it focused on bond's actual character more than the other films and didn't focus on pointless car chases, fighting and gadgets.
