I just received a visit from DHL...A letter from Marden Kane tells me I'm a potential 2nd. Place Winner! I'll be returning the doc's by return mail 1st thing in the morning.

Thank You MS and AMD...Thank's also to the members of both Neowin and Unfiction forums and also to the VanishingPoint Wiki Page Maker.

I believe you are way off the actual number, I've been trying to get some decent numbers

to guesstimate the number of players, I've been monitoring the number of visits to the

different threads here, unfiction and the wiki, etc., still nothing that can be used as a

consistent input to any calculation but my guess is that the number could be probably

between 25000 to 30000, and still I may be off.

Thanks Confusio

My 7500 guess was based on the very lowest number of players possible for no neowinians to win any of the first prizes. But it could definitely be way more than that.

On the other hand, IF the average person only had time for 1 puzzle box, and the average neowinian did all of them (lol.. no life :p j/k) then it's possible that there were say, 30000 players and only 7500 equivelent to a perfect score. Either that or I've had way too much coffee ;). Or both.

Anyhow I guess we'll get a better estimate once all the prizes get sent out. But then it won't really matter :p.

Well congrats to everyone who won!

Hope we get more of these type of games to play and to enjoy from Microsoft.

Doc's are all filled out, have to p.u. my tax forms for signing and e-fileing in the AM anyway, so I'll have him notorize the affidavit of elligibility and release at the same time and simply drop it in the mail.

I was a public Vista Beta tester and an RC Candidate 2 tester...But now I'll have a Bit of the "Ultimate Vista" myself plus a bonus device (XBox360, Zune, or IClix Player), courtesy of MS/AMD to play around with.

Thanx for the congrat's you guys . ;)~

Key people that will be on this conference will be:

-NASA astronaut and pilot John Herrington

-Myself.

-Design Engineer

-The two Top Prize winners

-Possibly someone from AMD and Microsoft.

-And maybe someone from our senior management.

.....

-George French III

Rocketplane Kistler

Two top prize winners? Someone want to shed some light on this?

There was a 4th place letter in my mailbox today.

I'm curious where the notified winners (3rd/4th prizes) are all from, most seem to be from the US so i am wondering if any Europeans have received a notification yet??

I live in the UK so haven't given up hope just yet, a copy of Vista Ultimate would be nice! :D

I completed all four puzzle boxes with no help at all on the first two, some help from here on the third, and quite a bit of help from here on the fourth :)

Congratulations to anyone on here who has won a prize so far!! :)

Just been contacted by MK, asking for the same. So I'd appreciate it if we could not post any links that would divulge personal information. Thanks.

I wasn't one of those who had their address exposed was I Rob? The gl of cglrcng in az? That would not have been kind....But then again, I too have digital prints all over the net using my sn. If you want a great custom puter built...Please look me up. Ahhh, I just saw what you saw...Yes I was listed, but the town/city isn't even the city I live in (do much business there though), but I live more than 70 miles from that "Airport city DHL destination"...It also lists my signature as the "signed for sig"....It wasn't I that answered the door but was actually my wife who did both (answered the door and signed for the package), and as of tonight it still shows on the master list as being in the hands of the delivery courier when it was signed for and delivered.

We, as a community, just can't stop running the puzzles even when the game is actually over. Can you imagine if MS and AMD could actually harness this combined power? MS's OS patches would be released before they were even needed. Or not needed at all.

BTW, reading back, the younger's letter delivered by DHL from EV of MK, Inc. was dated Feb 2 and was a "potential" 1st place winner and his Doc's had to be returned by Feb 16, (mine was dated Feb 8 and was a "potential" 2nd Place winner, Doc's had to be returned by Feb 22) They were received by early PM Friday Feb 9 (thank you DHL for very prompt overnight delivery as advertised!), and the doc's were filled out, notorized and returned via regular mail in the enclosed return envelope Attn: EV Saturday Feb 10, 2007 AM. I face none of the issues he may possibly face. I abided by the rules posted on the VPG site and also included by MK, Inc. in the winners packet.

There is still some hope for those yet to be informed of winning...According to the rules; Unclaimed prize(s) @ 10:00 AM ET on April 30, 2007..a drawing is to be held to distribute those unclaimed prizes....So keep the faith. But mine won't be in that list!

No rule included in the packet told me I had to hold back any info concerning my being a "potential" 2nd. Prize winner pending the receipt of the completed & notorized Doc's. Don't know about the Grand Prize Winner, I assume they'd keep that winner under wraps until the announcement Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at Spaceplane like spoken of earlier in the video(s) in this thread.

Congrat's to Audrey (and her hubby), and all the other big winnas! I now have fodder for all those penguin lovers and MS bashers...In the future I can truly claim My Original Copy of "Windows Ultimate Vista" was also FREE...And mine came w/ a great bonus pc. of hardware! XBox, Zune or iClix player...LOL. Top that you MS bashing penguin lovers. LOL.

I wasn't one of those who had their address exposed was I Rob?

No. The only list that came out was a partial list of envelopes sent to

potential first place winners, no second place winners were on that list.

Your name was not exposed, but I guess it will show up when they

publish the "official" list on early March.

I guess that some folks among the paperwork will have to sign some

sort of publicity agreement were AMD and MSFT reserve the right to

use their names and organize some marketing events for no extra

compensation and it may include some non-disclosure language to let

the sponsors be the ones that make the names public.

Microsoft and AMD Award Space Trip to 'Vanishing Point' Winner

Feb 12, 2007 09:00:00 (ET)

BURNS FLAT, Okla., Feb 12, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- William Temple of Sacramento, Calif., will be traveling to space as one of the winners of "Vanishing Point," a unique interactive puzzle game from Microsoft Corp. and AMD to celebrate the recent consumer release of the Windows Vista operating system. Temple was awarded the prize today by Aaron Coldiron, lead communications manager for Microsoft, Teresa de Onis, marketing manager, Advanced Marketing Group for AMD, and Randy Brinkley, president of Rocketplane Kistler at the Oklahoma Spaceport in Burns Flat, Okla.

"This has been a lifelong dream -- floating in space and seeing the Earth from above is going to be an amazing experience," Temple said. "I'm really excited I was chosen out of the 87,000 registered players online."

Coldiron noted, "We wanted to show people how Windows Vista will take computing to new heights -- 60 miles up, in this case. The chance to give someone the ultimate 'vista' from space is a fantastic reward."

"This game brought to life one of the most promising and rewarding aspects of technology -- the ability to bring people from around the globe together to solve shared problems," de Onis said. "The online community that grew around Vanishing Point displayed amazing cleverness, persistence and ingenuity in completing these puzzles."

The online community has been abuzz about "Vanishing Point," the latest alternate reality game: solving a series of online puzzles that led to a corresponding real-world event. The sweepstakes kicked off Jan. 8, 2007 with a spectacular custom light show in the fountain of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The week following the launch event, people around the world discovered a new round of clues in the form of skywriting. On Jan. 20, 2007, significant global structures, including the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the National Gallery in London, the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and the Victoria Theatre in Singapore, were "painted" in light, revealing clues about historic figures and times. To cap off the real-world activities, on Jan. 27, 2007, Microsoft and AMD conducted a fireworks finale on Seattle's Lake Union, drawing hundreds of people to learn more about the identity of the mysterious Microsoft Puzzle Master.

Temple will visit space in the Rocketplane XP, a four-seat, fighter-sized vehicle fitted with a delta wing and a V-tail providing good flight characteristics both subsonically and supersonically. The vehicle is powered by turbojet engines and a rocket engine, allowing it to accelerate to speeds of more than 3,500 feet per second (2,386 miles per hour) and reach altitudes in excess of 330,000 feet (60 miles), providing the sensation of weightlessness for three to four minutes. Rocketplane Limited is a subsidiary of Rocketplane Kistler.

The grand prize package includes a Windows Vista-based, AMD-powered Dell desktop PC; a 24-inch widescreen monitor; a Zune digital media player; an Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system; three Games for Windows® game titles; a Microsoft® LifeCam VX-6000 webcam; Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007; and $50,000 cash.

"Vanishing Point" raised the stakes in online games with tougher challenges, bigger rewards and events scheduled around the globe. Players worldwide competed for nearly half a million dollars in prizes. Representatives are available to discuss the game, the grand prize and the role Microsoft, Windows Vista, AMD and Rocketplane Limited played in the game. More information, official rules and coverage of the offline events are available at http://vanishingpointgame.com .

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
