Ya know I already tried pointing that second bit out. I think that post got ignored.

I'm actually starting to take enjoyment out of this. There used to be a quote on a board outside my dorm room earlier this semester that went along the lines, "It's easy to get angry. What's hard to get angry at the right time, for the right reasons."

I just thought it was appropriate :p.

I'm not and wont be getting angry as I won't be playing the beta, simple as that. lol

Why don't they just release codes for everyone to use? Or make it freely available on the Marketplace to make up for their ****up.

the stress test server farm has a limit, making it free for all is a VERY bad idea... or do you want to play Halo 3 with 250.000 13y.o kids? I don't think so... :p

Because that would most likely crash their servers and then no one would be able to play.

I know a lot of you are angry about this, but think of it this way. If any of you have ever worked in IT, computers can do some pretty effed up things once and a while, and maybe this was one of those times for Microsoft and Bungie. I'm not saying this doesn't suck, but computers are not perfect and neither are humans - we all make mistakes.

On the plus side, be glad you get to play the beta eventually. On the negative side, you have to wait a bit longer.

this crap is bound to happen but people needs to realize this crap it's just a game!!! get over it...

true, it happens. i work in software too so i understand. but microsoft just pulled a sony by not delivering on a pretty big product when they said they would. that doesn't fare well with the general public

Yes, but why the hell aren't they releasing some sorta update what's going on? THAT is ****ing me off. Specialy considering i paid like 60$ and those who paid NOTHING is playing it as we speak.

Keep your, "It's a game" or "They aren't forced to let you play the beta" crap away from me.

im sure sure you can say that(it is a matter of opinion)... esp since come September MS is going to be promoting this game like its the 2nd coming...

You paid $60 for Crackdown, that happened to come with a free beta. Everyone's beta is free. Just because you don't want crackdown doesn't change the fact that the money you paid was for Crackdown, not for the beta.

I imagine they are releasing an update about what's going on because they don't have anything new to release. What could they tell you that would make the situation better besides "you can download it now"? Even if they told you the specific reasoning why it's not working, and it wasn't technical enough that we could still understand it, that wouldn't change how long it is going to take them to fix the problem.

It would actually change my attitude towards this whole situation, Just a simple update from Bungie telling us what's going on exactly.

Wow. Just wow.

May I seriously suggest to everyone who is so upset, to go out and get some fresh air or something if you took the day off of school and or work or whatever the case may be.

Perhaps when you get back, you will be pleasantly surprised. Perhaps (which I am guessing), it will still not be available.

Whatever the case may be, I can promise you that sitting in front of your TV and/or computer and restarting Crackdown or refreshing your browser is not going to make it get here any quicker... So go out, take a walk, take a drive, and just realize that while yes, it was a pretty big F up, things happen, so make the most out of it that you can.

PRESS PASS

Last night we invited the US President George W. Bush to come over to our server farm and help us to deliver the public beta to all the violence hungry kids out there, while in the Ops Room the President trip over some cables. The damage was so extensive that we need to replace some Blades and reload all the data and scripts stored on that server.

Will keep you updated on the situation as soon as we can, in the meantime you can go duck hunting with VP Dick Cheney... if you dare of course... :shiftyninja:

I'm trying to find the hidden message in your post

haha, is that for real
Bungie's quirky sense of humor really shines in a newly discovered Halo 3 beta multiplayer medal. Halo 3 beta player Izequo discovered a new medal while pwning a bunch of noobs with his shotgun in High Ground. The multiplayer medal, aptly named "Cheneymania!", is earned when a player kills ten others, with a shotgun, and without dying. A feat Mr. Cheney would definitely be proud of, because we all know how experienced he is with a shotgun. Birdshot FTW!

Update 1: Looks like Bungie was feeling the political heat and changed the name of the Cheneymania! medal to Shotgun Mania. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Update 2: They changed the name again. It's now called Open Season! Thank you David.

it was fun while it lasted i guess ;)

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). Other improvements Private relay access control via shared auth token Relay fallback notifications when a custom relay is unreachable Broadcast mode toggle in sharing settings Android release build fixes (split-per-ABI APKs, universal APK preservation) UI polish: mobile safe-area insets, dropzone layout, transfer progress animation Bug fixes for minification-related serialization issues and system tray icon loading What's Changed feat(relay): add relay status functionality and settings UI (a120cdf) feat(relay): implement custom relay server configuration and verification (51276c7) feat(relay): add configuration for private relay access and enhance observability features (48fbabf) feat(relay): enhance relay URL validation, display connection status (d4fffa0) feat(relay): add RelayChangeGuard component and enhance relay-related translations (16ba514) feat(broadcast): add toggle setting for broadcast mode in sharing UI (ca6d977) fix(relay): correct QUIC discovery port, pin image, templatize fly.dev (52a2ba5) fix: More broken serialization due to minification (67491a9) fix(android): preserve true universal APK across per-ABI builds (e9f256f) fix(ui): conditional safe-area insets padding on mobile (1182f0e) refactor(transfer): CircularRing component animation fix (944572b) chore(android): drop x86 and x86_64 release APKs, keep universal+arm64+armv7 (34ada0b) Download: AltSendme 0.4.1 | ARM64 | ~9.0 MB (Open Source) Download: AltSendme for MacOS | Android Links: AltSendme Home Page | GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
