Which is exactly what I was saying. Dr Who was never a romance show, until RTD decided to shoehorn it in, to the detriment of the show IMO.

Mind you I did kind of like the Rose aka Bad Wolf plot line.

*sigh* We've been through this once already.  It was educational from the start, ONLY from the start, for series 1.  They dropped that pretty much from season 2 onwards.  It has NEVER been done as a social commentary show, unless you think running away from the monster of the week reflected social issues of the day... :p

But I guess if you look for stuff believing it's already there, you'll find it.  In which case, EVERY TV show and movie ever made is social commentary.

That level of ignorance as a general state of being must be bliss.

Never being capable of even grasping the existence of what you don't understand.

Or perhaps you're just seeing things that aren't there?  As I said before, you can consider ANY TV show or movie to have social commentary if that's what you want to see, but that doesn't mean the show is intended for it, which Dr Who wasn't.

The beautiful thing about reality?

It still exists even when you deny it.

crap how bad was it? Personally I think they should have stopped or at least taken a break when matt smith finished up. they've done every story that can be done

The main story was fine, but the first 5 minutes? Nope... No more, BBC...  I can't take your BS anymore... Mess with the Dr all you want, but when you decide to change actual RL historical facts, especially a very significant one, JUST for a throwaway joke that literally meant nothing to the main story, it's too much.

Ah it's not to be taken too seriously, just a bit of fun. The episode was alright, better than last week's

This was far better than the previous one. I really liked it.

I don't understand the upset. What joke? mavity? They kept calling it that through the episode. I just figured it'll all come together in the end and be 'fixed'.

I imagine it all will have something to do with the salt.

Uh-oh

My arms are too big.

"Throwaway" things have existed in Who all the time.   It is  - for Who - a quite dark episode, with that very light joke sprinkled in.  You know ... because it's a gentle reminder that this is at its heart, a kids show.  Anyone can try to define it whatever they want, but don't come in here preaching that it's somehow awful for doing that which it has always done for various empathy and emotional hits.

I dunno, the sunflower painting for Van Gogh, also applies.  But that's ok, right?  That was the Who you accepted?  Even the xmas special for this year changed history but it just changed it to something familiar with already so it was ok -- it subverted expectation to an expected normality?  Would it have been awful if it were the plunger to the murder-death-kill arm, backward?

Also also, not everything has to be "fixed" in the same episode.

Fish custard was a 10 second bit but it came back too.  Bow ties.  Fez.  Mavity will get even more funny if it is literally ever mentioned again.

Oh, the mavity!  (Uhh side note why is Grammarly not underlining that?)

... Y'know. I did write a long rambling post explaining why I'm annoyed, but tbh, I really can't be bothered.  If you can't see it, there's no point in explaining it. All I'll say is it has nothing to do with "mavity".

I never expected you to be a mavity denier. We disagree on many things, but I thought we could both at least be united in our belief that mavity exists.

Ah, figs...

Personally, I think that and several other minor things that came up in Ep1 and Ep2 will all be resolved before the end.  I enjoyed both episodes so far and I'm looking forward to the remainder.

It just occurred to me that not only was Rose making things that came from the past adventures of The Doctor and Donna a hint to her having inherited the Metacrisis...

...but that while imbued with the power of a Time Lord she was also a Celestial Toymaker.

A fun little hint and easter egg pun layered in.

Damn it's nice to have RTD back.

OH I think I get it now.

FloatingFatMan probably doesn't like the fast scene where the Doctor agreed that Issac was hot.

It was so fast, and never referenced again in the episode.

I think maybe it is in relation this very strange choice.

I know Doctor Who isn't always historical accurate, but it feels weird to change the race of Issac Newton.

I don't think it detracts from the overall episode, instead of changing the races of white historical figures why not focus of historical figures that are not white which are often not talked about as much as they should?

    • Windows 11 is a big thumbs down from me. I used for a period of a few days while it was in insider and windows 10 was the main OS, and realised it wasn't for me. I am still waiting for Windows to be tolerable again, a shame as at one point I was very pro Microsoft.
    • Classic outlook, not only does it have a much fuller feature set, it doesn't include Microsoft attempting to sync my emails from my servers to theirs. If classic outlook is ever removed from office, and the version I paid for in 2021 stops working for some reason, I'll use Thunderbird.
    • Kdenlive 26.04.2 by Razvan Serea Kdenlive is an acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. It works on GNU/Linux, Windows and BSD. Through the MLT framework, Kdenlive integrates many plugin effects for video and sound processing or creation. Furthermore Kdenlive brings a powerful titling tool, a DVD authoring (menus) solution, and can then be used as a complete studio for video creation. Kdenlive supports all of the formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (such as QuickTime, AVI, WMV, MPEG, and Flash Video, among others), and also supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD. Video can also be exported to DV devices, or written to a DVD with chapters and a simple menu. Video editing features: Multi-track editing with a timeline and supports an unlimited number of video and audio tracks. A built-in title editor and tools to create, move, crop and delete video clips, audio clips, text clips and image clips. Ability to add custom effects and transitions. A wide range of effects and transitions. Audio signal processing capabilities include normalization, phase and pitch shifting, limiting, volume adjustment, reverb and equalization filters as well as others. Visual effects include options for masking, blue-screen, distortions, rotations, colour tools, blurring, obscuring and others. Configurable keyboard shortcuts and interface layouts. Rendering is done using a separate non-blocking process so it can be stopped, paused and restarted. Kdenlive also provides a script called the Kdenlive Builder Wizard (KBW) that compiles the latest developer version of the software and its main dependencies from source, to allow users to try to test new features and report problems on the bug tracker. Project files are stored in XML format. An archiving feature allows exporting a project among all assets into a single folder or compressed archive. • Here's how to watch the Xbox Games Showcase today and what to expect by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The June games showcase week has been a packed one, with everything from major presentations like Sony and Summer Game Fest to indie-focused reveals coming in almost every day. Now, it's almost time for another big one, with Microsoft bringing its Xbox Games Showcase back later today. This is a double feature too, with a Gears of War E-Day deep dive also being attached to it. For anyone wanting to tune in online, the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase is kicking off at 10 AM PT | 1 PM ET | 6 PM BST | 7 PM CEST later today, June 7. The event will be available to watch on the official Xbox YouTube (4K 60FPS), Twitch, Facebook, Steam, Amazon Live, and other portals. Separate livestreams for American Sign Language and Audio Description will also be available. "This year marks 25 years of XBOX, and this Showcase is poised to be a true celebration, offering world premieres, new gameplay, fresh updates, and more for a swathe of projects we cannot wait to share," said Microsoft about this presentation. With a new CEO behind it that is pulling off some interesting moves, Xbox may have some surprises to reveal today. New looks at first-party games like Halo Campaign Evolved from Halo studios, Fable from Playground Games, InXile Entertainment's Clockwork Revolution, Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from Infinity Ward are to be expected here. We may finally get to see the new Blade from Arcane Studios in action and a new Persona game from Atlus at the showcase too. Surprise announcements may also arrive from other Microsoft-owned studios like Bethesda, MachineGames, Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Rare, World's Edge, or Blizzard. Considering how every new release nowadays is staying away from November and December to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI's release, any launch dates Microsoft announces will probably skip those months as well. Once the Xbox Games Showcase ends, Microsoft will immediately kick off the Gears of War: E-Day Direct. This deep dive into the upcoming prequel from The Coalition should attach gameplay footage and perhaps a release window to the highly anticipated project.
