[OSx86] I Hope Apple stops these OSX86 installs

Recommended Posts

yes im fully aware of that thread and still won't condone to individuals who seek to force OSX to work on non-Apple Hardware.

get a bloody mac or stay away from OSX, the EULA is set in place for specific reasons.

And thousands of people are using pirated versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista, whats your point? :)

The EULA is in place for a reason, to make money.

Actually legally they can't... says so right in their EULA

Repeat after me: License agreements are not laws. Companies do not have the power to enact legislation. :)

Which is why it's so easy to run OS X on generic PCs. Just pop the DVD into the drive and you're all set, updates and everything.

WTF are the rest of us Mac users thinking!!

God only knows... perhaps you were thinking you were getting something better? Sorry...

I don't see a problem with OSx86 installs. They don't run nearly as good as an actual mac, hell, apple should support it as a method of test driving os x. I do have a problem with companies trying to sell these machines. But as far as a user running it, hell ya let them. For me it was the nail in the coffin, I used OSx86 on my pc and I loved it, bought a mac a few weeks later.

It's very obvious we have an impasse here, X86ers feel they are doing nothing wrong, Apple users feel they are...

Lets all just all agree that we have a difference of opinion and let this thread die. :p

we need apple genuine advantage ASAP!

And it would only affect pirates, licence users running it on a normal PC would be fine.

Some apple users*

I own and use a mac and i don't care about people running OS X on their PC's, I even want to do it (my PC is better than my Mac)

Being able to run OSX on a PC would be so nice. I like OSX, but I hate Apple hardware. Way too proprietary.

Eh?.

Currently you can install xp using bootcamp and you can update some parts using generic software (that meet some specific requirements), to update hd can be tough but not impossible, to upgrade memory is easy using specific models (with a correct cas), upgrade cpu is also possible.

The opposite is not always possible, in fact osx86 can push the sales of Apple, you can spend many weekends to try to install osx86 in your notebook or you can paid a extra $300 for a macbook.

I hate Apple hardware. Way too proprietary.

Hrm, please explain this one...

Apple:

Intel Processors

Intel Designed Logic Boards

10/100/1000 Ethernet (RJ-45)

802.11 a/b/g/N Wireless

DDR2 Memory

SATA Hard Drives

SATA Optical Drives

USB 2.0

FireWire 400

FireWire 800

Failing to see proprietary here...

OS X sucks it have DRM embed to it kernel

and it call home every 30 sec !

Paranoid much? Here, have a tinfoil hat....

Next time quote a source for ridiculous claims like that.

What?

Can we get a source on that claim?

I am betting heavily that you don't. ;)

If you do, it will be something along the lines of Firefox "calls home" for plugin updates or Windows "calls home" for time synch and WMP music info. Nothing of any privacy concern.

Windows phones home, but you can run it without an internet connection too ;)

Windows comes with activation and WGA. OS X doesn't. The latter phones the mothership for software updates only - if you let it:

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?
