Battlefield Bad Company

Last night is the first time ever I have truly been frustrated with the game.

I was frustrated with the squad thing, even though I knew it was not going to work, it still was annoying watching people get sent to the other team.

I was also just extremely frustrated overall, as I have never, ever played worse.

So those are the reasons I never came back on so my apologies, but also as planned I did pick up Siren (well the first 4 episodes) for the PS3. Thing is though I never even played it, I got hooked on the Pixel Junk: Eden demo, high recommend it to anyone with a PS3.

okay...srsly...I have a theory about this...mostly because I've played the most frustrating rounds tonight myself. I scored the lowest points I ever have in the game and there was one round where I ended up with 0 points and played at most 3-5 seconds per spawn. I completely ruined my stats tonight.

I think it's the European players. I really do. I think they are much better players than the US players, especially the ones that stay up till 4 in the morning (Munkey I'm lookin at you) playing the game every day. On the average US game, I usually score 175 - 500 per round. Tonight I scored 0 in one round. Pathetic. I'm going to play random US games tomorrow. I'll see if my theory holds true. Or maybe people's skills are vastly extending past ours.

I think it's you ;) LOL I stayed in for one more round, and I had a 300 point game.

I do think there's still something to your theory though. I just cant put my finger on it.

Interesting theory, and I believe it as well, but with a sociological explanation attached to it.

I can say from being lucky/fortunate enough to play with people all over the world thanks to this very community, that it definitely is not that US players are not as good skill wise as players from across the world. People like mystic with COD4, Trong and Und3r0ath on Halo 03, and yours truly on Battlefield Bad Company (ROFL Okay maybe not me, but cm-on I had to say myself), prove that us Americans are just as good as any players out there.

With that said, I do think non Americans are on a whole "better" players, but there is a simple reason why and the reason they are better is not about "skills" so to speak... They tend to be more team oriented in team based games.

It really is that simple I think.

Seriously, I know American players who are untouchable skill wise, and I know European who are just the same. Has nothing to do with where they are from, as we are all humans after-all.

However, as I stated above, Europeans on a whole have the appearance of being better players as they are more team oriented. A lot of US players just want to run around and play for themselves and not the team, and do not misunderstand me, I have definitely played with a few Europeans as well who just are out for themselves. Overall though, I do believe more Europeans tend to play within the team concept than Americans tend to do.

But again, I really must stress, whatever we are talking about, it is not all Americans, and it is not all Europeans.

There are good players from all over the world, just as there are bad players from all over the world.

There are cool people from all over the world, just as there are douche bags from all over the world.

Ive not yet had the opportunity with fellow neowin's, but also id like to say that im not really aware of nationality of people i play with unless they mic talk, but having in my time played, CS-Source, Halo 3, COD 4 and BF2 bad company and heard banter from all country's but Ive noticed alot more banter from the American's. Ive seen many skilled players on all sides of the globe so i wouldn't say there any country is any less skilled but when people are shouting down mics or giving people hassle its hard to concentrate.

Top score on so far is 999 on harvest day.

I think one possible reason that we have had a few hard nights is because quite a few of us now are reaching the higher ranks, and depending how EA & Dice have managed the matchmaking, but they could be pairing us up with players of similar skill. I've definitely seen an increase of rank 25 players on the other team the past few nights. There is at least an avaerage of 5 in each match. I remember one match I counted at least 8 who were all rank 25.

Also, Battlefield isn't your typical FPS where you can just run and gun. There is attacks coming from all angles and you really need to be on your toes. That goes for the enviroments aswell which are huge, and you could be sniped from a mile or more away. There's not many FPS out there just now with such large levels that it makes it dangerous enough to stand still for a second, nevermind crossing the large gaps between Gold Crates. I'm actually happy now they left out Prone, because if they left it in, in some maps it would be virtually impossible to ever spot the snipers.

But that is just my guess..

Last night after COD4, AJ, Massive and I jumped on for around 2 hours or so and did much better than Thursday night. We did get owned in our last match though as the opposition was heavily using tanks and the helicopters. Like seriously, a hell of a lot. At any time they were in control of 3 tanks and I don't ever think I seen the helicopter go down once. We spawned as Demolition and Specialist to try take them out, but half the time we couldn't get close because of the fire overhead from the helicopter or some guy using the big gun from the original base bombing our ass. Then when we did do enough damamge, two Support guys would jump out the tanks and repair them and jump back in!

Not to mention that noone else outside of our little squad did anything to help the situation.

Yes, I believe you're right, and I'm surprised I didn't think of it. The servers are probably balancing the ranks, and that's why the rounds are getting tougher. And since I'm only Warrant Officer, I get easier games when I hop on to random rounds. Silly me :p

One strategy I noted them do last night is something I've never seen squads do before. If I locate an enemy soldier and start chasing after him, he would run to a specific spot and when I'm following the red dot, another soldier(not having a red dot) would shot me from behind a corner. This happened to me 2 or 3 times. I wanna master this strategy.

My question is, do you actually know when you show up as a red dot or not?

Seriously, I have no clue if you do or not, so if so definitely let me know.

Man if you do know when you show up, that could be as big as me learning today that the plus sign means teammates need healing. LOL

LOL that plus sign revelation was hillarious.

When you see a gold plus sign on the map or if someone has a green plus sign on top of their head, that means they need first aid. If you see a wrench on the map that means their vehicle needs repair. What's funny is that the 4 page manual doesn't mention anything about that. I guess they assumed that we would figure out the game by harassing all of the random squads we'd join with people that don't have mics.

But anyway, I assume I have a red dot on my head when I get shot. I realized also that the red dot does not appear if you get hit by splash damage. Just if you get shot.

I also realized that the red dot goes away after some time. I really don't know how long this time is...maybe a minute? Either way, if you get shot, you get a red dot.

Also, I really wish snipers would use the motion sensor more. Most particularly around the crates. That way we can get a map of red dots and just shoot blindly at them until someone dies.

I am an idiot. I did know all of that.

Yeah, get shot, you have a red dot.

It is good to know that you do not get it with Splash Damage though, as I just assumed it did.

So I got the strategy...

If you know you have been shot, lure the opposite team to your Squad members who have not been shot.

I don't know man, that is borderline getting a bit too deep for me.

I mean I definitely don't run around like a chicken with it's head cut off, but at the end of the day, I basically just shoot ****.

Seriously though, I think we do pretty damn good when we play as a Squad more often than not.

My thumb is getting real sore holding down the sprint though (N)

Not even kidding, I have been playing more than I usually do the past three days, and my wrist and hand right now are killing me. Just on my right arm though, not my left.

It actually is quite sad and a big reminder I am only getting older and not in the best shape physically.

I just would rather play video games than work out.

And definitely Battlefield is more my game personally, but I still do appreciate some COD4 no doubt, especially when it was fun as hell like today.

Yer we were all pretty bad in the last few rounds, definitely time we all started getting some sleep :)

Hey Larry, here's another one for you, when you die, you cannot fire you're gun until you respawn, I only realised that tonight :p

John, Peter and I just played for an hour or something. Some good matches, we lost twice I think.

Definitely enjoy Battlefield a lot more than COD4. My thumb is getting real sore holding down the sprint though (N)

Yeah, two things I like about COD4 than battlefield... the sprinting and the knife.

It really sucks when I knife someone and someone starts shooting at me. LOL there's no reason for the knife after you use it, so it should reset to the weapon.

Yeah I prefer that too, although I don't like the speed of sprinting in COD4. It looks way too unrealistic and almost in fast forward mode.

after going back to COD after playing battlefield for so long, it feels really weird all around. It almost feels like I'm on ice skates. Or....it feels like after playing a game with a slow computer and upgrading to a newer computer and everything just feels faster

Good matches Munky (Y)

I'm glad I got that tree achievement out of the way, but it was quite annoying when I knew I ran over more than I needed. Seems like another glitch of sorts.

Too bad for me that I couldn't get your dog tag in that one round. One of these days...

Yeah man, we did good. I got side tracked a lot and went for a few rogue snipers which probably lost us some crates lol. Oh well.

Congrats on the tree achievement too. I think it must have glitched for me too somehow. I checked the website and was at 600 trees or something, sat on the gun on Oasis and unlucked it within 5 minutes. It must have been pretty generous with me :/

lol @ the dog tags. I can't believe you were so close :p

Yet another good set of matches :) , always a good time when teaming up with you (and everyone else of course)... Towards the end I was really starting to lose it and getting really tired. So I pushed myself, and I stayed on for 2 more rounds.

Now I have a little over 300 points left before I get to Rank 24. So yeah, like I said, I figure I'll get to 25 by Tuesday night. LOL

Its just amazing though...how much little teamwork you see when you're thrown into a room with a bunch of randoms. One of the matches I was in, (the one with the sneeky back way by the river you always go) all everyone else wanted to do was snipe, and not even bother to try and arm the crates. I armed that first crate, i think 3 times, and no-one else was even bothering to try and keep it armed after I would get shot going for the 2nd one.

^ Yeah, you'll easily reach it before Tuesday night, all you need is say 3 good rounds where you score near to 500 points or more. You know all the tactics by now, just rush them and don't give them a chance to assemble and figure out what's happening :p

That one match last night was funny where we just armed crate after crate  Wasn't until the very last one they decided to defend. Easy points :D

Ah you mean on Valley Run? Easily my favourite map  I love the first two crates, they are so much fun to destroy. Especially the little route I like to go lol! But yeah I hear you about the clueless chickens running around. Hopefully they will disappear soon and we're left with the team-oriented players (Y)

I have a feeling Conquest will be out this week (Y) Looking forward to that a lot.

Also, the more I play, the more I begin to work out the level design. One of the final crates in End of the Line is in a factory, which is the exact same layout for the factory in Final Ignition. Lazy Dice  The same goes for Harvest Day & Over and Out. There is a small part of the town reused in both maps.

Finding it so hard to play in this warm weather though, it's 27 degrees here (that's 80 fahrenheit for you americans). We Scots just aint used to this

OK now people lets put some tips out for people.

I mainly play support so heres mine,

Easy points, be the support and lob First Aid on the way to your destination, anyone following whos sniped or shot you can heal.

Also when your support if your hiding taking out people, make sure you drop FA around you, if your shot or anyone spawns on you, you heal without changing weapons.

Also handy as a support find a building which isnt an enemy spawn point near the crates and be a safe spawn point for your squad. U can also use laser designator and avoid detection, where shooting would.

Knifing avoids detection, although annoying to be knifed, its easy to take 2 , 3 people out without them knowing.

Repair vechiles again adds the points up, put yourself downwind off the action and 1,2 people can keep a tank under-fire repaired.

Use the laser designator as your first weapon on a new map, you can show where enemy's are before you'd see them, handy for the whole team.

I usually play support although at most times I feel like I'm cheating because of all of the benefits of the class.

The next class I want to master is specialist. I need to know how to use the c4 well, and I want to start tagging tanks for the demo class. I have to wait to rank up so I can unlock some guns tho

The gaming gods are smiling down on me this week, I did not realize it but just like last Thursday & Friday, my wife is once again working the late shift at work, which means she does not get home until 8:30 every night. Which basically means I have a hell of a lot more time for gaming than I might usually have. So I will be on tonight at around 6-6:30 PM, just have to go visit my parents once work ends, and speaking of work, me and Massiveterra are both working on a huge deadline and a massive project together, so it means work comes first, which means later signing on than last Thursday & Friday for example.

But will be on at some point tonight, and can play a decent hour to two. Have to play all upcoming days as they come, but there will be some time each night this week.

My tactics are simple. Just dont die. And shoot at anything that moves without a blue tag over their head. Unless of course it's DM and he gets in the way of my gun. ;)

You didnt happen to be on Friday night were you? Massive, DM and myself found ourselves up against a squad that had 3 tanks that just wouldn't blow up! There had to have been someone sneaking around behind the tanks repairing them the whole time.

I don't know if I'm going to be able to be on right away. Those storms yesterday totally screwed me with cutting my grass. If I can keep motivated after leaving work, I'm going to try and get that done as soon as I get home. If that all holds out, I should be able to be on a little later.
