Imagine that. A sentry that runs and never shoots at anyone.

But as for a realistic disguise: how about letting the spy use its disguised class's weapons to further confuse the enemy team. To keep it fair and prevent spies from whoring away at certain weapons (snipers *cough*) they'll receive a health reduction proportional to the weapon's splash damage. So a spy firing an engineer's pistol would barely lose any health, while a spy attempting to headshot someone on a full charge would be almost next to death.

The catch is that the weapon fire would have no effect on the spy's teammates, so that could be a giveaway. And of course, pyros would be ever more useful in spy checking.

Whenever they do update the Spy, I definitely think that the Disguise Kit unlockable will either be some form of complete tradeoff, such as having a passive boost to an existing ability such as a battery-pack for the cloak.

Most likely however is a modified disguise kit that makes the disguises less obvious to the enemy, maybe through making the Spy run at the exact speed of whatever class he chooses, and getting ignited by Pyros doesn't give the burning aura for example. The drawback could be a limited disguise time or a loud noise/control lock (Think Sandvich) when disguising.

They should let the spy change weapons in the update. Or make it a random weapon per disguise or something.

That's the biggest give-away - Seeing a spy as engy run around with his shotty out. Most engies run around base with the wrench :p

that, or maybe a trade-off where the spy takes team damage / sets off his teams sentrys etc but lets the spy fire the weaons of the disguised class

that is the biggest give away with spys imo, countless times i've seen spys come from places where i know the enemy has a sentry and its rather obvious that they didnt get fired at :p

Speaking of spies:

Best sudden death match scenario. No way to do easy spy checks other than running into another teammate (or enemy, and one of you will be knifed), cloaks are no surprise, and anyone who is that dumb enough to disguise as someone other than a spy in that round...

Oh yeah, about that game last night. That was one riot of a game. My almost gamelong nemesis of that match (see screenshot) was trashtalking nonstop with player number 6 on BLU. He was going on about "what's this? 8 NEMENSES thanks to my hard work" and my guy on BLU was going "what's this? The number 1 beside our team? Oh and how I have twice your points?". Before that they were going back and forth about how the RED guy was a camping wuss for whoring as an engineer, and the RED guy shot back saying he should quit being a sniper, then a demoman, then a heavy. That RED guy was whoring a sentry gun outside RED's hayroom spawn point, with the gun facing the battlements exit. There were two additional engineers in the base, one in the courtyard and one on the lower base room. After we managed to break through the sentries and grab the intel (I got it up to the courtyard) and captured it after a few bouts of attacks and defenses of the RED intel, the RED guy goes "oh we let you have that one." Then after we beat them in sudden death, the RED guy rage quit.

After a busy few weeks of work, I finally got to play TF2 for a few hours just now, I'm quite surprised really that I'm still able to play it. I thought for a moment I'd be someone else's shooting target :p . At least I'm at the top, and yes I know I'm dead, but the last guy manage to get in a lucky shot, or should I say a lucky dart  !

I do like to say one thing though, the amount of profanity being said by children as young as 12. I don't know why they wish to say it, but they do and it does get annoying when that is all you hear over your speakers. Maybe I'm old or old fashioned but I believe swearing and disrespecting your opponent shows you do not respect yourself and only shows the level of intelligence you have. A few players that I had killed in the same server I played in the screenshot kept saying I was cheating and calling me names such as "nub" and a host of others worse than that. But instead of rising to their name calling, I asked them to please tone down their language, which they candidly replied me to "Shut up" which I did.

To their ire, I followed their request and in the end they left the server, but not before I manage to kill them a few times, most of them fiery deaths  . But because I kept quiet on my side, I earned the respect of my teammates, who rallied behind me and supported me in defeating the other team. This just shows that respect can go a long way, but because the internet protects your identity in more ways than one, there are still people who try to ruin a game for others. And most of those who insults others are children, which begs the question how did children as young as these get their hands on a game like this? Sometimes, I'm thankful my parents were strict on me even though I resented it, but I now realised I grew up to become a person who is responsible for his actions, whether in the real world or virtual, and respects others even if they do not respect me.

It saddens me sometimes to hear children who say such bad words, adult words if you wish. Swearing gets you no where, not to mention disrespecting those who you play against, and those who play with you.

@ViZioN: your links are broken. ;) Correct links are: Here, here and here.

@Scirwode: I see where you're coming from. Personally I haven't ran across too many of those 'kids' you speak of. Maybe they're defectors from the Xbox (360) camp? :p In almost all games I've played, people use the microphone for tactical purposes, which is great. Occasionally there's the moron who mic spams some song, but they're rare to come by. In our server the players are very vigilant against these lamers, and especially aimbotters. The unfortunate side effect of this vigilence is good snipers being accused of hacking nonstop. So in those cases, on the forums the server admins debate over a particular person using demo files and screenshots as evidence. Think of Neowin's moderation culture downgraded to a game server. That's what you get. :)

The worst cases I've seen in any TF2 game are people spraying gay or straight porn sprays. :hmmm:

Anyways, it's good that you're responding to them politely - I personally would just yell at them with the mic turned off. :p Ignoring them outright also works wonders. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing these people rage quit. :)

I'm limited to StarHub, BolehVPN and a few other servers due to my slow connection, and that's where all the children hang out so to speak. I really wish I could get a faster connection so I could play with others outside my country but I have limited funds at the moment and until that situation changes, I'm stuck on my 1MB connection :p . I did play with a few Australians, but most of them was swearing to each other and showing how good their skills were instead of trying to stop the cart from moving :( .

Politeness goes a long way, even in the virtual world :D . And at the end of the day, it's just a game which allows me to just enjoy a few hours of entertainment before I get back to work, which I have a lot but I'm too lazy to do just yet  .

Scirwode

spy needs tranq gun, 3rd person view, faster running. thats all i could think of, but how you would give all of those and take something away , no clue. 3rd person view could be done by not having a gun, instead of a gun, u get a tranq gun or 3rd person view to sam fisher it up to ppl.... dunno

engy is hard to think of some good trade off. maybe some sort of trip wire or alarm to let you know if someone is close? a robot guard dog to sniff out spys? a shield to help protect the sentry? vavles got some hard thinking to do to come up with some of these lol.

You know, that's not a bad idea  .

Scirwode

Take a look at the title of October 8's blog post on teamfortress.com. I'd say his idea doesn't sound too outlandish from the looks of things

It could be true  .

Scirwode

haha, that would be awesome. it could follow the engy, or maybe he could even set it on guard or patrol mode, having it move a certain path or follow a certain other player. the big question about robot dog though is should he only charge and bit, or should he have a machine gun in mouth or something of the sort?

200 kills?

Hax!!

:p

:p

That said, I have seen those kind of kills if the length of the map is extended to 30 minutes, especially on 2Fort, which does make for quite a few surprises  !

200 kills?

Hax!!

:p

haha :p

nah, it was a RTD server, so I had some help from one or two (honestly, didn't get a lot of the good outcomes) "7 instant kills" and "no clips" (helpful for destructions) and a "god mode". had a lot of "drugged", "beacon" and "frozen" outcomes too. It was a fast paced server though, so kills were pretty easy to get anyway - especially hiding around corners as a pyro. :)

Man really annoyed with myself at the moment. Can't play TF even though I bought Orange Box day of release since I installed Vista. Not that it run to good on my crappy machine anyways. Soon when I get my new beats of a quad core I will be on once again!!! Think though thats like months of wasted play!

    • MVS subscribers got the proper 26200.8655 Win11 25H2 ISO downloads as of 6/16/2026 avoiding this whole MCT fiasco by MS. I'll obtain the official 8655 MVS ISO download instead.
    • too bad the "backend" June 2026 ESD files are still at build 26200.8653 and not at the correct build 26200.8655 release. I'll avoid using the MCT for several weeks until late July 2026
    • Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip brings on-device AI to Android XR devices by Pradeep Viswanathan Qualcomm has been delivering dedicated SoCs for mixed reality and spatial computing devices for several years. The journey started with the Snapdragon XR1, followed by the Snapdragon XR2 in 2019, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 in September 2023, and finally the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 in 2024. Today, Qualcomm announced a major upgrade with the new Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform, which targets premium mixed reality and spatial computing devices. OEMs can use this SoC to power both all-in-one video-see-through headsets and lightweight, tethered optical-see-through glasses. Qualcomm highlighted that the Snapdragon Reality Elite will power the next wave of Android XR devices coming later this year. These wearables will offer better visuals, improved power efficiency, and deeper on-device AI integration compared to the previous generation. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can deliver up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, allowing large language models and large vision models to run directly on the device for the first time. In addition to enabling new spatial AI experiences, these new AI capabilities will improve head and hand tracking, as well as see-through features. On the performance side, the Snapdragon Reality Elite offers up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared to the previous generation. The platform supports visuals of up to 4.4K per eye at 90 frames per second for sharper images and smoother motion. Qualcomm is also claiming significant efficiency improvements. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can offer up to 20% longer battery life under the same workload. More importantly, the chipset can run up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler under load, making headsets more comfortable for users to wear for longer periods. The platform also includes improvements to video see-through, featuring lower latency and better image quality. Qualcomm states that its EVA hardware block helps accelerate demanding computer vision workloads, improving how digital content blends with the real world.
    • Umm... GitHub continues to use AWS. That's the story, that's the headline. There's no "new" news here. GitHub continues to require additional capacity beyond the originally-planned Azure allocations. There's nothing special about this; nothing noteworthy. They're still using AWS' infra until the cutover is complete.
