^ what about KZ2 :/ or even RFOM2?

Killzone 2 has classes, even a healing class - That's a killer for me.

Resistance 1 was the most boring and bland game I played in a long time, so I won't hold my breath for Resistance 2.

EDIT: Removed for the sake of peace

Each to there own I suppose.

My situatioin is that there are enough games coming to the PS3 that I am interested in to make me keep my PS3 (also the fact that it is a BluRay Player too). Also I use it as a Media Centre to stream my music & movies from my Mac & Wireless 1TB HD.

Inregards to Socom, I am still hoping they sort out the problems in time for release as I was enjoying the "Demo" especially when online with friends.

Update is out now :D 226MB of SOCOM fixing goodness :D they say it fixes the loading but there main problem now is...

Some late joiners have really bad framerate (5fps) and crash if they exit the game from the start menu. This happens at approximately 1/50 frequency.

but they know about it and are fixing it :D

Awesome, thanks.

And I have gotten that bug, really annoying, everything stutters like its going out of fashion, and quitting the game froze my PS3.

But as long as there fixing it.

Maybe with this new patch we could get another Neowin game going at some point, I can't wait to be team killed by Scazza again one day. :p

 Oh dear. Will they ever release a patch that doesn't break something else..

So has anyone here played it? If so does it help at all?

I have, and for the short time I did it certainly seemed to be running better. Joining games is far quicker. I've noticed a bit of lag, but nothing out of the ordinary.

There is a bug (as mentioned a few posts above) that I've experienced but they are fixing that.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tried the demo again with the latest update. The menu has improved a lot, loading screen was still a bit long but not the worst out there. The gameplay though, ****, they keep making it worse every time. The amount of lag spikes and freezing was awful

The score boards are broken too, wtf is up with that? The speed (lack of that is) of the update as well was terrible. I could go on..

Definitely not purchasing the game after what I seen/played tonight. They've had plenty of time to fix this so it's not excusable imo.

Yeah, I played with that random guy above me and game still seems very sluggish. They did fix the Red X issues where you constantly lost control for a few seconds. They also optimized the menu a fair bit which is certainly welcome, although they still have the characters standing in the background and they still take a second or two to load, get rid of them!

Very first server we joined had some serious issues - I saw a guy and placed a few shots in his head with no effect, I emptied almost 3 entire clips into him and still nothing. He saw me and started to empty a few clips into me and still no effect. Tried shooting a few RPG's at his feet and then I heard Andy was lagging, so we found another server.

Second server Andy joined, no problem. My PS3 froze with a black screen but second time worked fine. So we played for an hour or so though constant "Lag spikes" where the character freezes for a split-second happens frequently, then you end up looking somewhere random.

Oh and not to mention the Playstation 3 fans are at full blast constantly, sounds like a helicopter taking off in your room.

Damn this Multiplayer demo(!) has its flaws. Even after what, 3 patches and it's still not up to scratch.

SOCOM Confrontation Public Beta Extended

Early next week, we will be releasing the SOCOM Confrontation Public Beta 1.50 Patch. In order to have ample time to test it, we are extending the Public Beta until midnight PDT Thursday, October 9th. We will have more details on the patch itself soon.

We are using these extra few days to test the patch but we are still on schedule to release in North America on October 14th. We appreciate all of your feedback and hope you have been enjoying the Public Beta.

Regards,

SOCOM Confrontation Online Team

I'm still undecided. I've got a lot of friends that will be buying, but based on the beta I'm not very enthusiastic. Plus the fact that it releases in 10 days doesn't bode well for those that were hoping the final build would be more stable. I'll try it out with the 1.5 patch, but the last few patches didn't do much for the gameplay.

    • I use it by choice but only for specific tasks that I have forgotten and it's quicker to ask then spend time wasted finding a decent answer on Google or coding a certain language. I prefer to use it. I do think that as it gets integrated into everything, when we eventually fully rely on it, I'm talking new gens not older gens like me, that we won't think for ourselves, I mean we will become lazy thinkers, lazy logical answer to problem which will go badly. But if we don't become fully dependant, we might be OK but I don't think personally we are going to be OK, not for the newer generations. Unless they advance in that space to the next level of intelligence where it can work out its own problems and create ideas for itself.
    • Pity the article on MS website gives no indication when said "20%" performance gains will actually be rolled out to users.
    • I just looked on my computer and there are settings and log files for utilities I have never even turned on!
    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time.
