[Official] Resistance 2

Recommended Posts

I know there is an official R2 thread. Most of you wouldn't see this if I posted it in there and I'm trying to save you money so don't complain to me. I'm sure it will be merged anyways. (That is pretty stupid that you guys do that by the way.)

Anyways...

R2 is a step backwards in too many ways.

Monsters/enemies (Campaign)- Take far too much damage. I feel like I'm wielding an automatic paintball gun and the bullet graphics that emerge from my plastic toy don't beg to differ. Your enemies stand in one spot and continuously fire at you while you continuously fire at them. Their animated bodies show no damage except for when you do finally finish them off, they explode into big ugly chunks that just sit there with no physic properties attached to them.

Online enemies (Multiplayer) - Average experience that doesn't compare to your other (already available) options. Figure skate. Everyone figure skates. It looks like Madden with paintball guns at night. No feet hit the ground, no objects move, nothing is good.

Graphics - Aren't bad but aren't good. Some things look pretty cool, nothing feels like an advancement. The grass and foliage graphics and textures truly belong on the Wii (Twilight Princess +1 over R2 here.) There are no destructible environments.

Sound - Good. Whoopie.

Matchmaking system - Has it's positives but that means nothing when the game isn't fun.

I give it props for having fully customizable controls. I was happy to see that. I could see the single player campaign experience being worth a rent. Overall, the beta was a waste of my HDD space. Just as disappointing, if not way more (due to hype), than Haze.

Keep playing MGO, Warhawk, CoD, Halo, Gears, TF2, or whatever you play. Don't play this. The only people that will like this game haven't played any of the before mentioned.

You aren't allowed to make an opinion from a Beta, that's the general consensus around here. You will have to shell out ?30-40 for the game before you can even say anything about the game.

With that out of the way, there's the reason why I can't be arsed downloading the Beta and gave away my key.

I just knew deep down inside it would just be a generic shooter with lots of cosmetic and gameplay flaws, you know, just like the first one ... nr11li.png

Yeah, that's my rule of thumb; A horrible Beta also means a horrible Retail game. It has been true for pretty much every Beta test I have ever tried!

Bugs, glitches, minor engine issues and what else you see in a Beta can be fixed and does not make a game bad. We know they can be fixed and probably will but they are not the reason why players usually don't like the games. Every game has core mechanics and a core gameplay which never changes from Beta to Retail and they are also what makes or breaks a game. So a generic, boring shooter in Beta tend to be a generic, boring shooter in the retail version.

There's an official topic for a reason you know, and it's not stupid if mods merge just because your opinion isn't good.

Should everyone who likes the game start a new topic to say why we should buy it?

The only people that will like this game haven't played any of the before mentioned.

I've played everyone of those games, and I enjoy R2 from the couple of games I've had on the beta. Still waiting to do some NW Co-Op.

It destroys MGO as well.

I personally haven't noticed that many glitches, but coming out of the Socom beta, you know what glitches/bugs are.

Exactly, because betas are never anything like the final product. I'm still playing Syphon Filter and telling everyone it's the Fallout 3 beta.: Of course the beta is extremely similar to the final product, that's why it's a beta and not an alpha. That being said I'm not surprised at all, RFoM was a really dull experience, I don't expect much from the sequel.

I'm not sure why you chose to defend garbage but my guess is you will be the only one.

Generally people that don't like MGO have problems with patience. They want to run and gun, and in MGO, that means you die. R2 is the opposite of that, everyone runs (or should I say skates.)

Saying that R2 > MGO is blasphemy. Void of opinion and setting the gameplay of both aside, MGO's development values more than triples R2. You can tell a team worked on it with a purpose. Resistance 2 is the product of development clashes between a crew who obviously had no goal.

I don't even play MGO and I haven't put MGS4 in my PS3 since I bought it. However, I will defend a well thought out, well planned, and well executed piece of work over the shoveled-out garbage that is R2.

Okay this topic is just getting to sensationalist levels.

From the title, to telling people the game IS garbage, void of what they think.

I'm not sure why you chose to defend garbage but my guess is you will be the only one.

Many people are enjoying the beta, go read about it - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php...34&page=139

Plus your views on the beta should be in the official topic.

Just post your opinion of the beta in the official topic madd-hatter, no need for all of this drama in it's own topic.

One problem with your comments about the beta, its only the MP portion of the game. Doom 3 MP sucked hardcore ass but the single player was truly an achievement. Gaming isn't purely about the multiplayer experience, there are many like myself who never really bought into the multiplayer experience and will enjoy a game on its single player merits alone. Much like the first, I'm willing to bet the single player mode has some major scenes that will be worthwhile.

Judging a game purely on a MP beta demo = (N)

The whole point in the beta is to sort the balancing issues you describe. Balancing can only be fixed by mass playtesting and looking for gameplay trends.

Different matters and issues have all the reason to be separate.

I don't want to scroll through and mess with 20 page topics littered with retarded screenshots and .gifs that don't apply to the final product (your fault btw, quit it.)

And stop cropping quotes as an argument, that sh** is annoying. I don't play MGO but I do respect it as a good game with high production values. I don't play CoD4 but I do respect it as a good game with high production values. I don't play WoW but I do respect it as a good game with high production values. Etc...

Resistance and Resistance 2 are bad games with bad production values and I refuse to respect shoveled garbage. There is too much of it lately.

You do realise they are harder for a reason?

there are 8 players killing these things, if it was like normal solo campaign, you would run out of enemies before you start.

This is an experience crossed between WoW and FPS, where the classes work together to take down these hard enemies.

Thanks for skim reading the initial post and criticizing what it doesn't say when it says it.

The Beta has MP VS and MP CO-OP. I never mentioned anything on balance issues. Graphic, AI, and animation problems have nothing to do with "balance." Those 3 are some of the most important elements of the game from the base. And in the case of R2, they are all wrecked.

Your post fails.

Have you played it?

8 people take 8-10 minutes shooting 1 "big" monster that doesn't move, evade, and in some cases, doesn't attack.

BORING.

How can you have an opinion of Resistance 2 without even playing the single player campaign?

He hasn't mentioned anything about the campaign being bad. So far he has only discussed online components of R2 and compared them to other online arenas.

But he's saying the game is bad based on that and we shoudln't buy it. thats my point.

Im sorry but 1 persons opinion, and getting every not to buy the game sucks.

I did play Co-Op and we completed a mission in 30 minutes and killed several big enemies, purhaps people sucked in your game.

Thanks for the feedback, but I will buy the game based on what I feel and think of reviews and videos, not yours.

Thanks, but no thanks to your comments.

If you dont like it dont buy it.

FYI I did read your entire post and my points are still valid. Like I stated before, there are plenty of games that are fantastic SP with lame MP. Most of the points you make are what the beta is there to diagnose and fix. Sometimes the developers may even leave out some of the advanced animation for the final build. Issues like damage still needs tweaking, which is why large scal playtesting is required, there are issues with a game you cannot test for in the closed environment, which don't rear their ugly heads until its out in the field.

Gonna refer you to the Battlefield:BC beta, there were issues with splash damage, stupidly good grenades and low bullet damage that were fixed for the final release.
