[Official] Mirror's Edge

Recommended Posts

like chicane said, lastability isn't an issue for me. even over the last couple of weeks, when i've been playing like a madman, progress is slow. games are nice and long these days. so unless i finish your title in two sessions, each let's say a couple hours, it's all good.

as for Mirror's Edge - of all this season's releases, this is the one i wanted to love the most. but i can't, because as noted above, the execution is really rough around the, hahemm, edges. the concept is cool, the art direction fabulous, the music and sound - unbelievable! i got this one for the soundtrack, really!

BUT...the controls are frustrating, it's like the game demands you do stuff existing inputs can't truly manage. the end result is trying a lot of moves time and time again, which builds up annoyance FAST. at some points i wondered if they were aiming for the masochist niche, and almost gave up on it.

will keep with it, but it's not the amazing experience i was hoping for, although it will likely leave a memorable impression.

I thought the game was actually very easy to control and very, very enjoyable. The gameplay is great and the length isn't a total issue for me since the time trials and Hard difficulty will take plenty of time to get really good at.

I'm not expecting mine to be waiting at home tbh - hoping it's not really as I've got lots to do tonight and won't have any time to play it, so it'll be torture if it's there!

Won't get a chance to play until Monday night at least thinking about it... boo :(

played the game last night, beat the first 2 chapters and i'm loving it. i don't think length will be an issue for me, because there are some parts in the game where i know i could have done something different and i can't wait to go back to re-do them. :D

It's part of a trilogy apparently and it definitely ends with a lot of questions needing to be answered.

Pair it down from 3 games to 2, and you get the same story but better value for the gamer.

I haven't played the full version, but wouldn't this kind of game scream for some sort of sandbox mode, ie., find random crap ala GTA/Assssin's Creed/Crackdown? Playing through certain levels unlocking secret areas that allows you more exploration a second time through the game? Playing as a second character other than Faith to get another aspect of the story?

There are tons of ways to get more playability out of this giving you better value, w/o resorting to half-assed hacked out multiplayer that won't stack up to something like CoD, Gears, or even Madden.

Gamefly shipped my copy yesterday, I'll likely get it Saturday. I just got Dead Space in the mail and I haven't even opened it yet, I've finally started playing Far Cry 2 and I'm really enjoying it. I know that when Mirror's Edge arrives I'll be playing right away; all of the negative remarks I've heard and read about the game have not deterred my interest in it one bit. The demo was amazing, the game has to be fun.

to be honest, that sounds like a load of bull. They could have easily fit in all 3 of the potential storylines and made it one. One long story line would have made this game truly epic. And I'm sure EA can easily afford putting extra money into the budget for DICE. But of course. They're gonna make a trilogy just to churn out more money from the market.

You can look at it that way but by splitting it up into 3 games they can fix the problems with the first game for the sequel and improve on it for the third game. I'd rather have three games with each one being better than the one before than having one big game which has annoying problems throughout.

I went to GAME today to purchase my copy of it, but apparently the PC version isn't out in the UK until December the 6th, so I made sure I had it pre-ordered and then bought C&C Red Alert 3 for my PC

At least I'll have something to keep me going with RA3 and finishing Fallout 3 whilst I wait for Mirror's Edge

No idea what my next "must buy" game is on 360  Probably be The Last Remnant...

Maybe I'll have to give Fable 2 another play or buy Saint's Row 2 :p

I'm sure this is something that the developer's had in mind, but sometimes good ideas don't execute well. Like Far Cry 2, open world doesn't really equate to a good game.

This mentality is killing gaming :(

I long for those old days where we had massive and great games.

Just rented this today from Blockbuster and all I can say is WoW! This game is very addicting and fun to play. The graphics are beautiful and gameplay is pretty balanced. I am def. going to pick this up when I get the money. This game is a def. must buy :)

I was out all day but my pre-order came along with my t-shirt. Threw the game into my Xbox when I got home and just ran through the first chapter (from the demo) to make sure all was well. Looking forward to getting into this game but won't get a chance as I'm busy all weekend :(

T-shirt looks ace :)

The game is nice in idea, but all the lead filled air is goddamn annoying. Not sure who finds it fun to be chased across maps without proper means to fight back. It's not the fact that there's gun enemies, but the amount of them. You're almost always shot at. And the damn invincible SWAT helicopter. Especially when the path through map sometimes seems not obvious at all.

just got the game today, and am loving it. currently on chapter 3. i really wish there were more parts where you can take a "breather" though. i really don't need to be chased every single second.

also, i got the pacifier achievement since I haven't shot a single bullet in the game yet.

I think that's the point though - you have no time to waste. You are a information runner.

I'm up to a part that is really annoying me. Chapter 6 i think, i have to run through this boat and i am at this point where i have to open a door but it is a round handle and she has to turn it. Problem is there are four guards in that room and she can't open the thing fast enough and i die. I'm trying to do it without firing a gun.

It may be the point, but that doesn't make it fun. This is a game.

People getting the Pacifier trophy early on should tip you off that at some point, not using guns is going to end up in a lot of grief, like your situation in the game. On the other hand, often the NPC spawns are on fixed timers, so you might have to restart the map and put down a perfect run to get the headroom to safely open that door.

    • Still 3x what it should cost. So, it seems the trick is to increase price by 6x so that a reduction in price back to 4x looks like a steal. "You savvy shoppers win again!" I'm glad I'm not in a desperate spot to actually even need this overpriced crap. Hopefully, it comes back down by the time for when (or if) I ever do.
    • Although AI is great and has it's use cases they likely have massively overhyped it and it has not delivered as per their expectations. I fully expect them to start saying the same things again when it does get to a certain level of intelligence!
