Sony calls out Xbox and Wii as flea market peddlers

@jonny, if what Jimmy Carr says is true, i.e if you have enough money for chips you'll pull, I'm game

lol Jimmy Carr is a genius with his comedy :) went to see him at Hammersmith in December, girlfriend bought me tickets for my birthday :D

Well, i have huge movie collection on my laptops 250gb hard disk, i was thinking to put this hard disk on Gaming console as they also double up as Media players . i found out not only is the hard disk Xbox specific only and cant be replaced by normal hard disks but also for what i would get 20gb or 40gb Xbox hard disk , same price gives me 250+gb laptop hard disk ( i learned this later regarding price BTW) so it was deal killer, another thing that totally bamboozled me was Xbox still thinks people will start pulling ethernet wires around home for internet/net related activities and does not gives them on any version, and wifi adaptor is insanely priced.

That's still not a good enough reason imo, you can either stream media from another computer or just attach some kind of USB storage (hdd, flash, card reader, etc.), there's no need to just dump everything on to the console's hdd.

Everyone here talks about how expensive MS hdds are (which is true), but the second they buy a PS3 the first thing they do is spend another $100+ on a bigger hdd.

Haha, you know what happened actually. see i had 2 options at this gaming mall, 40GB ps3 or 80GB (lots higher price) the guy at this mall said, simply get 40gb one and for small amount comparatively get 250+ hdd later.

I still haven't filled 40gb one, i keep deleting stuff and still got 8gb free. :) , so yea you got point there , but 20gb (if had got it with xbox) was always going to be less.

I don't get why people are arguing the cost factor when the xbox 360 elite costs exactly the same as the ps3, and then they say getting the elite plus the $89 wireless adapter is cheaper.......

Where exactly do you live? It's 299? vs 399? in Europe.

Where exactly do you live? It's 299€ vs 399€ in Europe.

Probably in America where both are at $399

Elite - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1172881999620

PS3 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1218005635152

You do get two games with the elite though, even although they are pretty average ones.

( Games might be a BB deal only, Walmart has vanilla at $399 as well - http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5751086 )

The UK/EU has had better cuts on the 360 than the US *I think*.

Finally it's the US/Can getting the shaft, not Europe :p

The "internally leaked info" from the SCE meeting pinpointed March, but it's all pointless speculation.

Sony will never confirm it till near the date, giving anyway any sorts of hints or confirmation early means a drop in sales. Which is why you'll hear the "no comment on speculation" or "we have no plans for a drop in price" line any time journalists poke them for info.

It would be smart of Sony to drop the price before KZ2 hits stores, but being Sony I doubt they'd do that. I'd expect price cuts by summer at the latest.

I can see them coming out with a $399 80GB + KZ2 bundle, but that's not really a price drop.

Anyway, this has turned into a silly rumble, I ain't changing my opinion, none of you are changing yours, leave it at that. I really don't understand the massive backlash me thinking having wireless in the more expensive models is better bang for buck, is causing.

It isn't that you think it is better bang for your buck, but that you put it across as a requirement for the console and that is should have "everything" because people like you "require" wireless when no one in all the world "requires" wireless ever unless they don't own the router or are hijacking internet.

Some of you are absolutely detesting it for some reason or another as if it would make any 360 it goes into cost 100's of more dollars and remove choice, where it wouldn't. Why aren't you arguing about USB ports/Component connections and other things you and others may not need in their 360s? It's getting a wee bit silly now, as I never talked about completely removing choice, but you guys keep hitting back at me as if I am.

HDMI is a permanent add-on, which means they aren't making an SKU with it and an SKU without it. Sure, that defeats choice but it also makes the console cheaper to produce since they only need to build one for all three SKU's sold. I would be for putting the wireless adapter in the Elite, but that would boost the price above that of the low-end PS3 (very bad idea since having their highest end console at the same price as the sony low-end gives it a great image). Including it in the 360 would then present the problem I just talked about previously, multiple builds for multiple SKU's which means more cost in making that one off SKU because it isn't as widely produced, then add in the extra technology and you have a good $70-$100 increase in price per unit just because it is different.

If they don't want internet, buy the cheapest model that plays games... that's the arcade.

What if you want the HDD and wireless controller and aren't using the internet? My brother is a perfect example of that.

Emn1ty for both our sanity I'm not going around in any more circles with you.

Look at it this way, as a consumer I don't feel it's great value having to buy the wireless add-on if you're spending a fair chunk on an elite, that is all. For me, it should have been the model to need nothing extra. Not to be bought, then for people needing wireless, having to shell out another ?60 the same day.

Choice for me is barebones, mid-level, then premium (aka includes everything).

That's just my opinion on wireless, that's all. Not trying to change anyone's views and I'm tired of repeating mine, so that's genuinely it now:pp

As I said earlier, you can bet the next round of consoles include it all, as online gaming is vastly popular.

Ok, I can settle with that, but I just want to make sure you understand that you are a minority, especially when it comes to "requiring" an wireless connection. This is the second time you seemed to impose what you want as what everyone wants, using personal examples as a reason for them to include certain things in the console when the majority of people aren't in your situation at all.

AB, they all might include it from day 1 next gen, but that doesn't mean it won't make a dent in their wallets!

After this generation, MS will have made a nice profit on the 360 that will allow them to include it next time around. They couldn't do it with the 360 after the "shakey" start to the Xbox's life.

I say shakey because obviously it was their first time in console gaming, but it was still a success, regardless of the money lost.

Sony have said many times they don't have plans to cut the price. The soonest we can expect one is summer/early autumn imo.

Only because it's sales suicide to announce a price cut. If they haven't cut it by Easter I'd be surprised or their mental.

Actually cutting the price around October or November would have been a fantasitc move, had they been in a better position with money in the SCE departments. They'll only be able to cut the price when they are making more money back on each console sold. Right now they just can't do it, well they could, but they'd be digging a deeper hole.

You mean kind of like Sony did with the PS3?
