[Football] Summer 2009 transfer thread

If Manchester City fail to sign Arsenal hitman Emmanuel Adebayor, they will make a move for Juventus striker David Trezeguet, according to tuttomercatoweb.

The Citizens have been chasing Adebayor over the past week, with the player having reportedly already taken a medical. However, no confirmation of a move has arrived, prompting some to believe the deal for the Togolese striker has hit complications as the player considers his future in London.

Should the free-spending Premier League side fail to lure the Gunners player, their next target is the French star, who has been linked with different clubs across Europe all summer

The 31-year-old rarely featured in Turin last season due to both injury and tactical choices, finding himself low in the striking pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico.

Therefore, the Bianconeri are likely to sell the striker if a side comes in with an acceptable bid for the experienced goal-scorer. His asking price is rumoured to be in the area of ?11 million.

Nope, same old, same old. Man City make a bid, Chelsea reject it.

I really do not want to see Alonso go to Madrid, he is such a good player. Who is going to fill in for Alonso if he goes? Lucas? Spearing? I have no clue

No one from the current squad can fill in for him.. Rafa will have to buy then.. Marcos Senna could be a good option in that case or possibly Veloso..

Manchester City have added to their collection of strikers with the signing of Arsenal's Emmauel Adebayor on a five-year deal.

The 25-year-old, who is believed to have cost ?25m, joins fellow new signings Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez at Eastlands.

Perhaps hes going to retrain some players? You know make his strikers play as left backs and such.

Hopefully this means they'd release Bejani and pompey can bring him in on like 15k a week!

Adebayor's move to Manchester City was expected to be completed.

I think you mean it has been completed, which it was yesterday and Arsenal will get around ?25,000,000 and Adebayor gets a 5 year deal.

I am happy he finally went, his behavior was exactly what Vieria did and Henry did and it caused the team to be uncertain.

We have at least 5 top-class strikers, so Adebayor scores 1 in every 15 chances he has so, good riddance.

Here are some stories worth commenting on...

Real Madrid may have spent all summer signing players, but they are now ready to commence a massive selling operation.

According to Marca, Los Merengues are hoping to raise around ?100 million from the sale of six players: Arjen Robben (?25m), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (?20m), Mahamadou Diarra (?20m), Alvaro Negredo (?17m), Rafael van der Vaart (?15m) and Gabriel Heinze (?10m).

However, selling these players has not proven an easy task. Thus far, Huntelaar's case is the most advanced, with a ?18m offer from Stuttgart on the table. The Dutch striker has not travelled to Ireland for the pre-season tour, but he is yet to commit to a move. Jorge Valdano has instructed him to make his mind up by Monday.

?25M for Ade.. we can easily top that offer for Huntelaar.. also Diarra can prove useful to Arsenal.. I'm tempted by van der Vaart and Robben but I feel we are all set in chance creation depar:pent at Arsenal :p

David Beckham has only recently returned to LA Galaxy from a loan spell at AC Milan, but he has been linked with football in the old continent as he hopes to secure a spot in Fabio Capello's England plans for World Cup 2010.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen on a reunion with Beckham, having signed the 34-year-old on loan last season when he was in charge of the Rossoneri.

A:rolleyes:y Mail

According to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent, not only is his client better than Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, but he is greater than all of them put together.

Mino Raiola has been busy trying to secure a swap deal in recent days, one that will see his clinet move to Barcelona with Samuel Eto'o heading to Inter.

Speaking to Marca, the agent could not resist a dig at Ibra's potential future rivals, saying, "Ibrahimovic is better than Kaka, Ronaldo and Benzema put together, because he has phenomenal technical ability."

>Wow! What is Ibrahimovich paying this guy or did he have:D bit too much? :D

Manchester United And Chelsea Battle For Gremio's Douglas Costa

8Zu.jpg

Manchester United are hoping to convince Gremio to accept a lowered bid for Douglas Costa, but are facing competition from Chelsea.

United had looked set to pull out of the deal earlier, when Gremio were demanding around ?24million for Costa.

However, according to The Guardian, the Brazilian club are now willing to negotiate a reduced offer. Therefore, United are preparing a bid of ?9million plus performance based incentives.

Even if the bid is accepted, United are not guaranteed to land Costa, as that will tempt Chelsea, who have also been tracking him, to table an increased offer.

Real Madrid have also shown an interest in the past, while Villarreal are reported to have had an earlier ?7million bid rejected.

Arsenal will be better without his absence anyway, that 22 mill can be used to buy someone who is actually good at putting the ball in the net, rather than being good at being an overhyped poser.

We purchased Diarra from Chelsea for buttons sold him to Portsmouth for buttons and they sold him to Real Madrid for ?30,000,000.

He left Arsenal because he wanted more first team football, why would we want him back?

He was on about the other Diarra at Real, the one they signed from Lyon.

Real never paid ?30 million for Lass Diara either, that would have been quite some profit for Pompe:p:p
