the first 2 times i rebootet and kept windows of explorer, internet-explorer and mspaint open, windows 7 restored all those after reboot. which surprised me and i liked this a lot, thought it was a new feature.

now it doesnt do that anymore. i googled and found out that already under windows xp there was an option to let explorer restore all previously opened windows after reboot, however i cant find this option under win7. ideas?

anyone?

Since this is my first time on Win 7, can anyone tell me if this is normal....

I have MSN and Firefox with about 6 tabs open. My ram usage based on the Windows Task Manager is about 1.20GB..... I feel its kinda alot... but.. is it normal?

Do you have 2gb+ ram. It's normal then. Same as vista. It's doing SuperPreFetch. Mine at 1.0gig most of the time and i have 2gb. If you run a full screen apps and the os need ram, it will flush what it can. I think the most it can take is 1.5gig if you have a lot of ram..

This is the first thing I do with any install .. have been since Vista days!

Type 'secpol.msc' in search bar .. return .. got to 'Local Policies' > 'Security Options' and enable the 'Administrator' account from here is another way to do it.

Did this yesterday. However, is there a quick way of making this new admin account exactly like my original? As in, taskbar settings, programmes in the start menu, my docs and my music locations (mines on an another HD) etc.

Logging into my admin account is like a brand new install :(

Also, can I then remove my old account, or make the admin one login by default?

Had to reinstall outlook after installing windows 7 and it won't take over my calendars from my iphone, anybody know a solution? Ot does give open reminders during the sync-progress though, although the appointments do not appear in my calendar in outlook, but only during sync.

Well, I've never tried it, but how about the Easy Transfer Wizard?

It's in Accessories > System Tools .. it looks as if you can transfer all your files/settings etc to a USB stick, then I assume log back in with your new account and then read them all back ..

Try it out ..

I always get hysterical response when I tell people I do this, about how much risk i am putting my computer. I don't see any risk at all, except that you don't have UAC asking you to second-guess everything you do, which might be useful for total newbies or my parents, but who else?

Is there something else I'm missing about the risk in running in Administrator account?

That would be 90% of the population who have a personal computer running windows.... LOL

After you enable administrator account, use explorer to drag your files over from user named account to Administrator. I suppose you could drag your AppData (hidden) files to get settings, but I personally never copy settings because then you are bringing any wrong settings and other corruption along with you - better to just start from fresh. Anyway, once you get your files all over from User to Administrator, then go to User Accounts as Administrator and select Manage Another Account and delete your named user account. It will ask you if you want to delete user files, which you can do if you are sure you got everything. If not, it will put them in a folder on your desktop where you can poke around in them til you are sure you got everything.

Don't forget to export your favorites from your browser to your documents while you are in your named User Account, then copy them over to Admin with the rest. I always forget that and end up with old bookmarks file.

Before I copied all my files, I decided to see if the admin account actually fixed the issue. I opened KMplayer and played a movie. I took 6 screenshots of it which were saved to desktop. At number 5 it came up with the same permissions dialog as I posted previously.

So even having an admin account makes no difference.

This never happened in vista, its just an annoying problem I cant seem to fix.

I am getting this in the Event Log for build 7057.

Event 7045 Service Control Manager

A service was installed in the system.

Service Name: INSTB32

Service File Name: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\INSTB32.SYS

Service Type: kernel mode driver

Service Start Type: demand start

Service Account:

It started logging Saturday 3/14/2009 and re-occurs at random times. I have searched the internet but no real information is conclusive. The above file does not exist on my system. Avira and Defender did not detect it as harmful, if it ever was there. The only thing I installed just prior to when the error started was the new Adobe Reader v9.1. FYI.

I have 4GB of ram..... so its normal ? Someone else in this thread said its ALOT.....

Anything i can do ?

lets just hope micro$oft straighten these issues out soon, we don't need another vista fiasco. :o

Except, that this is only an internal build not for public... and will have probably been fixed internally.

On a side note, have they fixed the bug that when you go into sleep, go out of it, you cannot access the internet?

Thanks,

David.

Sometimes even using only the administrator account, I get permissions dialogues which can I just click through. These are some kind of bug but never hold me back from doing what I want.

I didn't wanted to make new thread so I am asking here

I found this somewhere on the net and am interested can this really be the real image because of the changed layout of the window?

27y0748.jpg

and I like this look so I hope it's real :D

Build 7061 was compiled on the 11th. That suggest 7063 the following day. I highly doubt they would be two builds further along in a day.

the about Windows without saying if its ultimate, home, pro etc?

It should still say it in Computer Properties if it were real. To me, it doesn't make that much sense to have it in 2 places.

    • After enabling it in about:config, customize, density, compact; the toolbar/address bar gets smaller vertically. I enabled Nova, I notice the tab bar/title bar is a bit larger vertically now? Everything always becomes a waste of space.
    • Microsoft's Copilot Cowork now generally available with usage-based billing by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in March, Microsoft first revealed Copilot Cowork, a new agentic AI experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot through which users can assign tasks to AI to complete in the background. After testing the service with a limited set of customers in Research Preview for a few weeks, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork to customers in the Frontier program on March 30. Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork worldwide for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers. The company also highlighted that Cowork became the fastest-growing feature in the history of its Frontier program. Unlike regular Copilot Chat, Copilot Cowork can run complex, long-running, multi-tool tasks from start to finish in the cloud by using organizational context through Work IQ. When compared to Claude Cowork, Microsoft claims that Copilot Cowork will be 30% to 40% cheaper on average with its Microsoft 365 connector. For now, Copilot Cowork runs on Anthropic models, including Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6. However, Frontier customers can now use GPT-5.5. Microsoft also announced Cowork 1, a secure fine-tuned model coming in the next few weeks, which is designed to handle everyday Copilot tasks at a lower cost. To access Copilot Cowork, a Microsoft 365 Copilot user subscription is required. Usage is billed separately through Copilot Credits, based on model use, context retrieval, tool calls, and runtime. Pay-as-you-go pricing is set at $0.01 per Copilot Credit. To offer IT teams full control over usage costs, Microsoft provides spending limits, usage alerts, user-level controls, reporting, and prepaid usage plans for organizations. Usage-based billing begins today. However, Frontier customers who used Cowork between March 30 and June 16 will not be billed until July 1, 2026. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app now includes a toggle to enter the full Cowork experience. Microsoft is also adding partner plugins, with Enosix, Harvey, LSEG, Miro, monday.com, Moody’s, Morningstar, S&P Global Energy, and TeamsMaestro available now. Adobe, Atlassian, Box, Canva, Databricks, and others are coming soon.
