Windows 7 build 7068 Screenshot (Yes, it's real)

As noted earlier in this thread, there are apparently 3 leaks: the Professional version (someone modded it), an untouched "ALLSKU" Ultimate version (could be completely clean and the actual product from Microsoft off Connect) and then another Ultimate that's the Professional one but the ei.cfg file was changed to say "Ultimate" instead of "Professional" so it installs Ultimate as it should. So a "clean" version, a modded version to get Pro, then a modded Pro that was modded yet again to get back to Utimate.

Fun fun...

If you have the Ultimate version to install, regardless of it being "clean" or it having the proper "Ultimate" in the ei.cfg, it will accept the beta keys and activate with them.

If you have the Professional version (it's pretty easy to spot because when you're about to click the big blue button with the white arrow on it that says "Install" it says Windows 7 Professional above it, not Windows 7 Ultimate) you'll need to modify it because the beta keys are for Ultimate only - they will not work with Windows 7 Professional, it'll even tell you it's the wrong SKU. So you can discover which version you have without needing to install it completely.

Or you can just open the ISO and look in \sources and read the ei.cfg file. Even better:

The Professional ei.cfg file is 55 bytes.

The Ultimate ei.cfg is 51 bytes.

Simple.

Obviously, if you get the Professional ISO, extract it, change the ei.cfg file to say "Ultimate" and not "Professional" and make a new ISO and go from there; it'll accept the current beta keys.

Just finished installing 7068. Seems faster and stable, and no more signs of some of the bugs and instability of 7057!

Only bug I have noticed so far is that nothing is showing up when I click "All Programs" on the Start Menu. Has anybody else got this error? Or is it just a product of upgrading from 7057 to 7068? (Oh, and please don't come and tell me not to upgrade. I know I shouldn't and bugs can result from it, but I just wanted to test it. ;))

Problem fixed. :D

Now it's running smoothly and perfectly. Definitely the best build yet.

Another thing that I can definitely notice is that Aero has improved. In all previous Windows 7 builds there was a certain "jerkiness" when opening and especially closing Aero windows, can't really explain it but it was kind of minor and I simply learned to live with it. However in 7068 this seemed to go away! Very impressed so far, will keep you posted as I fiddle around with the build.

If that is true, I am happy. Only thing that kept me from using it full time.

What's the different between the 2.52GB torrent and the 2.54GB torrent? I know that the 2.52 is professional... But If I change the cfg, I get ultimate... So what is that 0.02GB different?

One will run smoothly and the other will DESTROY your computer!

You must choose...wisely.

Question for person who download it and already us:

If the windows media player minimized in super bar, miniature is still roll-back (I dont know how I can write it XD).

Users who use 7057 knows about it.

Sorry for my bad english ;p

can i mount the .iso on my 7057 windows installation and upgrade from that? Dont want to burn it to a dvdr if possible, only got a few left. Will it try and read from dvd drive after it reboots after upgrading or anything? about 3hrs until x64 finishes downloading, its the ultimate version and the 7057 already installed is ultimate too incase you are wondering of version conflicts.

no but you can extract the iso with winrar and run setup from a seperate partition that way, or prepare and copy it to a flash drive and boot from usb

yeah i realise it may be buggy and unstable when upgrading but if that happens i could just format install from a clean installation. So will it upgrade it all from windows then just 1 restart and it will boot into the new build or will i have to waste a dvd-r?

ok downloading it right now and going to upgrade it from the 7057 build I'm currently using.

So basically, I burn it on a dvd, put it in the laptop and press install? that's it? It will keep the files and other software on the laptop under windows 7 7057 build? thx

Put it in while you are already booted in 7057 of course.

But, upgrading is never really wise to do with Beta's... Better to just back up your files on a DVD or something and then do a clean installation.
