So how does this game compare to Age of Conan and WoW in the first few levels? In terms if how much of a grind is it and is there a lot of quests so you don't have to just kill random animals over and over again to level up. Also is it a mix of area's which you can solo and area's which you have to have team mates with you?

I don't know if anyone will know this since the beta's seem rather short, I haven't really been keeping up with the game but it does intrigue me.

inly did to 15, but there is not much of a grind, did 15 levels in 3 days casual, but keep in mind this is a korean MMO, you will grind more then WoW, but so far it looks shorter grind then Lin2 ( BY FAR )

also the beta is Ver. 1.0 release will be 1.5 which will include shorter grind to level ( same as wow's boost in xp for early levels )

WARs strangest point was it's beginning areas with party quests (if you could get people to do them) and is nothing like Aion or WoW starting areas. That being said, Aion starting areas are somewhat similar to WoWs in that it's pretty closed off from the rest of the world and fairly linear. But don't get the wrong idea that the rest of the game is like that. Though once you learn the quest process in Aion you can get to 10 in very short order...especially if you're playing in the late night hours when you don't have to wait for 15 other people to collect the same thing for the same quest.

So nothing like WoW? :p

It's closer to Age of Conan or LoTR - you're locked in to a set location till you do a quest at level then then you get let out in the world. After that the zones are much like AoC. But you've got to remember they are using an engine which was made for a shooter so you can't do an Acherons Call or WoW and make it massively open.

i think your only locked till you get to first class change city ( pandemonium for me ), after that its wherever

and the engine can do it, the Unreal Engine 2 did it with Lineage 2, its the same world type. dungeons/pvp area are the only loaded zones, everything else i didnt get a single load screen unless you decide to use a portal

Hang on you're going to compare a single player game to an MMO?

I don't really see how that applies. The game engine has been completely retooled and redesigned for Aion and at this point the game has been in development for over three years. And I don't think he was comparing the two, just stating that in this case, they've made it so the game world isn't linear (not including the starting areas). Even though Far Cry had the appearance of having wide open areas it was still pretty linear.

Maybe I'm mistaken. I thought the engine was just the way the graphics were rendered. If it is, I don't see why the engine would determine what game it was applied to.

Either way... We've played the game and and we KNOW the crytek engin suits it just fine. So why all the debate?

Let's talk about nachos and burritos.

The engine determines everything in a game pretty much from graphics to physics to loading times and so on, as far as I understand it. That's why Half Life 2's Source engine was such a big thing when it first came out because of all the new things the engine could do.

Amazon is probably your best bet now. Or the NCsoft store if you don't care about the physical goodies. It's also cheaper there since you don't get a box, I know for certain that gamestop is sold out and doesn't offer it anymore.

And also check this out guys...Aion product placement in LG monitors commercial..

(originally posted on Aionsource.com)

The monitors themselves look nice but I don't know...that light underneath looks like it would be distracting after the eye candy appeal wore off in an hour. And they need one with a black finish.

    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
