Mac OS X Lion Discussion

Aw. So for now it's only a “static” view of your running applications? I would have guessed you could at least have a sort of mini-preview on mouse-over.

i wont be surprised if apple is still working Mission control for a few more betas, apple wont let us down.... hopefully (Y)

Can someone post some more screenshots? Such as more of Finder? Or large full-screen apps? Thanks.

most of my screenshots look pretty much no different then the ones from lion's page on apple's website, so at the moment just look over there.

It's as static as Exposé. Any changes occurring in the windows will happen in real time in Mission Control.

You can also "push" the apps open for a slightly closer look or to separate a stack of windows by two finger swiping up when you're hovering over an app. Mission Control is functionally sound in my mind. I think it just needs some polish.

They've finally updated the password screen when coming back from sleep. It's still a black screen, but it presents a proper login window, like you would normally see when booting into OS X.

The changes to inertial scrolling (Safari bounces when you reach the end of a page) feels really nice and natural. Additionally, by default scrolling is inverted, but you can turn that off in System Preferences.

Oh wow, I never noticed that's how it is on the mobile devices... True.

I'm definitely too used to the non-inverted scrolling method. It's kind of scary how close they are matching iOS features with Lion features now...

Is it even possible to leak it? Isn't it tied to an account?

No, It Is NOT Possible To Leak! Although I Am Unable 2 Download It Right Now Do 2 A Failed Download This Morning, I Read In The Developer Documentation This Morning That If You Attempt To Install It On A Separate Mac, It Will Ask You 4 Your Apple ID And Password! So Stop Please Asking 4 A Leak Mr. Pink! It's Not Possible!

Why do you start every new word with a capital?

New "Internet Accounts" panel in System Preferences:

Also, if you're a fan of 3-finger swiping to go back/forward in Safari, you're out of luck here.

EDIT: Just realized that 3 finger swiping has changed to 2 finger swiping. It's actually kinda slick - I might do a video later.

Oh, Ok. I just re-checked the teaser video from Apple. Seems perfectly fine already, at least for me.

Can't wait for my download to finish :)

omg that "Versions" feature is a work of genius or what?!? Lion is looking more & more compelling day by day.

It's nothing that Shadow Copies in Windows hasn't already been doing. Much like Spaces, I'm glad Apple has brought it to Mac OS X, but it's nothing new. (However, it does have a really nice UI.)

I'm a bit confused about AirDrop, though. Is it going to replace iDisk entirely? Because it seems to do exactly the same thing as iDisk, yet has the added benefit of encryption and being easily shared with others. Frankly, having iDisk and AirDrop would seem redundant to me, especially as they both appear to be maintained by MobileMe.

Also, is it just me, or are the new opaque white Quick Look windows going to clash horribly with the Dock's transparent black context menus and Stacks?

Thing is, on Mac OS X people actually tend to use those features. Whereas on Windows most people don't even know it exists.

They're not opaque. Just less transparent. As it is Quick Look and the Dock Stack grid view aren't the same style.

Both points are debatable, but I'd probably agree with you. Although I do use Shadow Copies a lot on Windows, and it's an incredibly useful feature, especially when it comes to important group documents that require many revisions.

Also, can someone get a pic of the contextual Dock menus and Stacks? I want to see how they look compared to Quick Look.

So do the buttons in iCal and Finder slide around when selecting something else? (Like going from day to year or from icon view to Cover Flow)

Yep.

It's nothing that Shadow Copies in Windows hasn't already been doing.

I'd argue that Versions has a much nicer UI to handle versioning than Shadow Copy, but yes, Windows has had it for a while.

    • Personally, I think these things are way over rated and way over priced, even at this price. I recently had Frontier Fiber installed with 2 of these devices and although they worked, I switched back to my own router and AP setup and get way better consistency on wireless speed than with Eeros. Wired speed seems to be more consistent also. Will be returning Eeros soon. I had told Frontier I didn't want them to begin with.
    • Yes, exactly what I have been thinking. Don't make the context menu simpler, make it smarter to learn what I actually use. And then, give me the ability to pin settings that I rarely use but need forget where they are.
