I don't often promote cheating even in single-player games, but I after how much I've played, I find these "cheats" essential when replaying. Just type them into the console if you're playing on PC.

Vendors will buy stolen goods (because their psychic knowledge of what's stolen is silly...)

Vendors buy all goods (e.g. blacksmith will buy clothes)

The second one is great mostly because it sucks being loaded with items, waiting 'til day before you can actually sell, then having to find the right people to sell it to and hoping they even have enough gold to buy all the crap off of you. Yes, I get that you're supposed to manage your inventory better, but when you sit there managing it more than playing the game, only to kill a dragon and have to pick up them heavy bones... Yeah, definitely not the most fun on your 4th time through the game like me. :p

Hope that helps.

Hey, Thanks! I don't think there is such a thing as "cheating" in Skyrim. The game is so immensely personal that it invites you to play it the way you want to play it. I'm totally going to do those "cheats" and sell off all this clutter.

On the same note as cheating, I was looking for a mod that would allow me to bind a key to drink health potions (any health potion I have available). I found a mod that is similar to what I was looking for called SwiftPotion. Basic configuration that auto quaffs potions when either mana, health, or stamina drops below a configurable threshold. It seemed like cheating to me, but being an alchemist and having just a ridiculous amount of potions I actually quite like the difference in gameplay. For one, I can configure it such that if I'm taking a lot of damage at one time I still die. I'm consuming a lot more potions so thats good because I'm getting through all these potions I've made and there might eventually be more incentive for me to make more potions. I'm also finding that this mod has made me less F5/F9 happy because instead of dying I'm just consuming potions.

I've been using the follower from the Dawnguard DLC, Serena and I'm finding her to be REALLY OP at level 42. She one shots a lot of mobs, even the non elder/legendary dragons. Cool to have around, but I'm having to play on Master difficulty to compensate for her being such a bad ass. She makes leveling as Vampire Lord very difficult because she typically finishes mobs before I can get a drain life going on them to get the perk points.

I've never actually used followers. They always got in my way, especially in narrow tunnels and such where you need to make a hasty retreat. :s

I haven't used them at all either on my thief character (not very practical for sneaking around), but Serena has some really cool abilities. She can throw ice, lightning, and drain life. She also ontop of zombifying even high level mobs. I also find that she is overall less in the way than other followers for some reason. While indoors she tends to occupy herself by sitting next to people, or working at an alchemy/enchanting station while you are talking with quest givers which is also a really nice touch that adds some realism. Oh and she is also a fantastic sneaker which is compatible with my thievery. But her dps is probably better than mine...lol. I'll probably go back to solo after I get tired of her.

Well my character is level 59 and pretty much 1 shots even dragons on the hardest difficulty. When the darn things decide to land anyways. When I kill stuff that fast followers really do slow me down.

I did not cheat to get that strong, through smithing, alchemy, and enchanting you can make continually stronger gear, potions, and enchantments. I don't think there is a cap on how high you can actually make your armor and weapons. Although there is a cap on stats.

I'm thinking about starting to play again because I'll have a bit of down time until GW2 is released and I'm definitely going to have to look into getting some mods that increase difficulty quite drastically.

I have found that Skyrim ReDone increases difficulty. I'm having to play my nord barbarian on anything higher than Apprentice/Adept with that mod or else I get smashed. My thief character I've almost always played on Expert or Master with very little effort. That being said, Skyrim has a very bizarre difficulty curve. The game seems a lot harder at the beginning when you have crappy equipment and poor skills, then after about level 25ish it becomes a lot easier given you didn't wreck your skill points or something.

There are mods that make it more difficult, though. I'm not sure there are any mods that adjust the bizarre difficulty curve in the game. Later level battles should be longer and harder some how.

Yeah, I don't want to have to increase the difficulty where stuff can in turn 1 shot me, that's just not fun, it's just artificial inflated difficulty. The goal is for it to be challenging and hard. That's part of the reason why I haven't touched the game in a while. There were no mods that offered that at the time.

Well, Skyrim Redone is pretty aggressive at changing lots of aspects of the game. One thing that the mod does is drain Stamina faster in fights, but you also gain it back faster than in vanilla skyrim. This makes the sword play last a little longer because when you are out of Stamina you can't hit worth a damn, so you have to back off and let your stamina recoup a little before attacking again. Also, it makes all health/stamina/mana potions restore-over-time so you can't just chug a bunch of potions (but that doesn't sound like something you really need for increased difficulty).

It's a hard thing to achieve good balance in a game like this. Being able to adjust the difficulty helps because if the mobs are just 1 shotting you, it makes more sense to lower the difficulty than to throw the game in the garbage and not play it anymore. As you progress through the game, there is also the need to feel more and more like a badass which is something they've done a good job with but there still needs to be fights that are challenging and fun. I think that once you are bored with a character because it has become too easy or whatever, try a different character with a different strategy. The game isn't really well balanced. Try playing a melee guy on Master difficulty especially in the <20 levels.... it is about damn impossible IMO. I cringed when I heard they are working on an Elder Scrolls MMO because Bethesda is not exactly known for balancing out everything and that is something that MMO players demand.

I'm going to try my hand at making a mod. I want to make something like SwiftPotion but have it bound to a key instead of automatic. Maybe a favorite called "Any health potion" that I can bind to a numbered hotkey. Hmmm... And then have a configuration option to change "Any health potion" to consume lower or higher quality potions first.

Bethesda aren't making the MMO. I'm sure they'll have a hand in it, but it's a separate team at Zenimax. The Game Director did Dark Age of Camelot.

And they're taking some big notes from Guild Wars 2 from the looks of it, which is a great thing imo. Hope it takes off well, as I wouldn't mind having something to play on the side in the Elder Scrolls universe.

Bethesda unable to find solution for Dawnguard on PS3 -- future DLC in question as well

:(

EDIT: I started Batman: Arkham City again the other night because I was still waiting for the Dawnguard DLC. If things continue like this, I guess I'll start up Fallout 3 again, I've had an itching to play that recently...

After 60 hours (and many distractions) I've finally finished the main quest line. I thought that the final battle was a little anti climatic but looking forward to completing the various other quest lines now and then eventually the DLC.

Has anyone here found that they have movement issues in Dragonborn when the read a dark book? My character loses almost all control. I can walk forward and turn. I can fire a bow but the arrow goes nowhere and my shouts seem to simply die. But other than that I am helpless. Also cannot save during this time.

The last time I made my way to the exit point, and even when I re-entered tamriel I still could not move (or save or anything) and had to quit.

Now, I KNOW it is likely a mod, even tho' I reinstalled and kept my mods to a minimum. I've got some ideas but I wonder if anyone else has had the problem so I can compare notes. My *guess* is a skeleton issue. When Dawnguard came out I ran into an issue with skeleton_female.hkx causing all the Ewer animations to fail... it was installed with some custom movement files from a mod. I am guessing this issue is similar because I do so love my idles and alternate runs/walks and other than texture changes, SkyUI, lockpicking, I mostly have motion files. I've even limited them this time but...

Yeah. So anyone else who has seen this, please let me know!

    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
