Just as it did last year, Acer announced its new Swift 7 at CES today. The Swift 7 lineup is known for being ultralight, and this clamshell laptop comes in at just 890 grams. The company promises an "almost weightless" feeling when you're carrying it around in a bag, and that's a solid claim when the laptop is one of the lightest on the market.
Another thing that Acer is boasting is a 92% screen-to-body ratio, meaning that it has narrower bezels than the previous generation, resulting in a smaller footprint. With a 14-inch FHD display, it's really fitting into the body of a more traditional 13-inch laptop.
“The Acer Swift 7 strikes a balance between art and technology, and in doing so pushes ultraportable PC design to new territories” said Jerry Hou, General Manager, Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. “With a striking screen-to-body ratio of an incredible 92 percent, Acer customers can stay more productive with a compact, thinner and lighter notebook that feels ‘barely there’ while carrying it around through the day and during business travel.”
The CPU that the Swift 7 uses is an Intel Core i7-8500Y, a 5W chip designed for fanless PCs. Unfortunately, this means that performance won't be exactly on par with ultrabooks, although this is what Acer has traditionally used in the Swift 7 lineup. Sadly, 4G LTE isn't an option this year, as that was one of the main features in last year's model.
Aside from that, you can get it with up to 16GB LPDDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD storage, and it supports Thunderbolt 3 for data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. The Swift 7 will be available in North America in May, starting at $1,699; in EMEA in April, starting at €1,799; and in April in China, starting at ¥14,999.
