Outside of China, only three AI labs are delivering frontier-class AI models: OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic. As a first mover in this space, OpenAI is focused on serving hundreds of millions of everyday consumers. Anthropic, on the other hand, is primarily focused on serving developers and business customers. Google is attempting to strike a balance between the two but has only seen modest success.
Today, Anthropic announced that it has completed a Series F fundraising round of $13 billion at a $183 billion post-money valuation. This is an incredible achievement for a startup founded just in 2021. To put its valuation in perspective, Anthropic is now more valuable than iconic tech companies like IBM and Adobe.
Anthropic’s first product, Claude, was launched in 2023, and its run-rate revenue has already surpassed $5 billion, up from $1 billion at the start of the year. This makes Anthropic one of the fastest-growing technology companies in history. The company now has over 300,000 business customers, and the number of customers generating more than $100,000 in run-rate revenue has grown nearly sevenfold in the past year. Its Claude Code product alone is generating over $500 million in run-rate revenue.
Anthropic will use the proceeds from its Series F funding to expand compute capacity to meet enterprise demand, pursue international expansion, and more.
Krishna Rao, Chief Financial Officer of Anthropic, said of the Series F raise:
“From Fortune 500 companies to AI-native startups, our customers rely on Anthropic’s frontier models and platform products for their most important, mission-critical work. We are seeing exponential growth in demand across our entire customer base. This financing demonstrates investors’ extraordinary confidence in our financial performance and their strong collaboration with us to continue fueling our unprecedented growth.”
Anthropic’s Series F round was led by ICONIQ, with co-lead participation from Fidelity Management & Research Company and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
