Apple CEO Tim Cook joins Twitter and sends first tweet

In somewhat surprising move, Apple's CEO Tim Cook has randomly signed up for Twitter on the launch day of the iPhone 5c and 5s. His handle is @tim_cook and his follower count is accumulating as you read this.

So far he has sent but a single tweet:

Cook also got the blue check mark from Twitter, verifying his identity. CNBC has also confirmed that it is in fact Tim Cook. "Apple tells @CNBC that even though Cook isn't verified, this is a legitimate account,". Phil Schiller, senior vice president of marketing at Apple, follows Cook as well; Schiller has had a Twitter for almost five years now.

It seems employees at Apple are warming up to the idea of being a bit more public lately. Steve Jobs never expressed interest in joining any social networks, choosing to keep his life private. Maybe Cook has some things on his mind he wants to share.
