In 2018, Google Feed was renamed to Discover with a fresh design for the card UI. The Chrome feature is meant to regularly recommend and update content that you are likely to open based on your browsing history. However, it doesn't let you manually pick the websites from which you want to receive content updates.
Today, Google announced a new experimental capability that will allow you to follow a website you like with just a single tap of a button. The follow feature will be available on Chrome Canary for Android. It essentially works for websites with an RSS feed and you can tap on a follow button when you open a website that has that service.
You will receive the latest content from the sites you follow directly in Chrome through a new "Following" section on the New Tab page. It's not exactly a new type of RSS reader like Google Reader that the search giant shuttered in 2013, but it represents a renewed interest in an old method of getting updates from websites you follow.
At launch, the new feature will be tested on the Canary channel and it will be rolled out to users in the U.S. in the coming weeks. As part of the experimental phase, Google will also assess whether it "will graduate from an experiment to a broader rollout in Chrome."
