Cortana for Android receives an update: Cortana now reminds you about people's birthdays

Cortana for Android and iOS was first announced in early 2015 and after a bumpy start and an open beta, the digital "personal assistant" finally began making its way to Android and iOS devices. Since then, it's received a number of updates and companies have even started including Cortana out-of-the-box in their phones. It was announced in January that CyanogenOS 12.1 would come deeply integrated with Cortana and Xiaomi has started pre-installing Cortana in their devices.

Cortana's latest round of updates for Android introduce, among other things, birthday reminders which will let you know whenever one of your friends, colleagues, or family members has a birthday. The full changelog of v.1.9.12 includes:

  • The ability for Cortana to now connect to multiple calendars
  • Improvements to the meeting retrieval experience
  • Improved location–based reminder accuracy (where Cortana would give you reminders based on your location)
  • Fixes for several crash bugs that affected the app

Cortana for Android has received between one and five million downloads so far (the Play Store doesn't specify) and, out of the 12,312 total ratings it has at the time of writing, it has a score of 4.2.
