Date bug causing Xbox One SmartGlass to crash on Windows and Windows Phone

An undiscovered date related bug is causing the Xbox One SmartGlass app to crash and give unusual results in some other apps on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone since the year switched to 2015.

A newly discovered bug in Microsoft's operating systems is causing the Xbox One SmartGlass app to crash and show wrong timestamps for messages.

It seems Microsoft did not expect the world to see the year 2015 as the message timestamps on its mobile operating system are showing the year as 31 December 2013 bringing back memories of the recent Twitter fiasco. The issue is not limited to the messaging app but extends to Xbox One SmartGlass as well, which is badly affected by the bug.

After an initial post on Reddit about the messaging app bug, users also reported that they cannot use the Xbox One SmartGlass app as it crashes on launch due to the same issue. However, changing the system date to 2013 seems to fix the problem, which obviously isn't a great solution.

We'll keep an eye on Microsoft's reaction regarding the matter, and if you discover any more Microsoft apps having similar issues on Windows 8/8.1 or Windows Phone do leave a comment below.
