Destiny 2 PC open beta prepped for launch later today [Update]

Players who pre-ordered Destiny 2 on the PC received a 24-hour head start on everyone else into the beta yesterday. This exclusivity will be coming to an end later today, with the beta set to open its doors for everyone.

As previously announced, Destiny 2 will only be available via Blizzard's Battle.net client, and the same is true for the beta. Anyone interested in participating will need to download the Battle.net client and create a free Blizzard account if they do not yet possess one, the Destiny 2 icon on the client should then give access to the beta when it goes into effect.

The PC beta gives players a chance to play Homecoming, a mission from the game's campaign; The Inverted Spire, a three-player co-op mission; and two PVP maps, Midtown and Javelin-4. However, it does not seem like PC players will get the chance to try out Destiny 2's new social space, The Farm, which console beta players received access to for one hour.

The beta's download size will be around 16GB, with its minimum and recommended specifications provided by Blizzard found below.

Minimum Spec
CPU: Intel - Core i3-3250 / AMD - FX-4350
GPU: Nvidia - GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD - Radeon HD 7850 2GB
RAM: 6GB
Recommended Spec
CPU: Intel - Core i5-2400 / AMD - Ryzen R5 1600X
GPU: Nvidia - GeForce GTX 970 / AMD - Radeon R9 390
RAM: 8GB

Also, it may be advised to use the latest drivers that both AMD and Nvidia released last week before jumping in, as the new drivers arrived with optimizations specifically aimed at providing the best experience for the beta.

The Destiny 2 open beta will begin today at 10am PT, joining the players enjoying the early access period since yesterday. The beta will continue to run until August 31, but, there is a chance of Bungie extending the event to stress-test the servers just as it did with the console beta.

Destiny 2 is slated to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, with the PC version arriving quite sometime later on October 24.
